ABOUT ME:
- I'm Cambodian and Chinese.
- I was born in November of 1983 (which makes me 37 years old) and raised in Houston, although my heart lays in between Houston and Hawaii.
- "OG KPOP STAN": I've always used the term "OG" (supposedly "original gangster") to define being old-school, and I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Kpop was my coping mechanism from the bullying I experienced in my younger years and it's just stuck by me ever since. Also! Just to be clear: me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" doesn't mean that anyone who's listened to kpop later than me is inferior. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time.😄
- I was a hiphop dancer for about 7 years. I did the whole crew thing, auditioning thing, competition thing, choreography thing, dance instructor thing, so I have some experience in that field and I hope to be able to share some perspective from my experiences for y'all to see the extra things that I appreciate about a video when I point them out.
-My videos can have quite a lot of cuts in editing and/or my eyes will unnaturally blink rapidly sometimes. This is because of my neurological disease that came with my lupus nephritis (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome). My thinking abilities and speaking abilities struggle to align at times.
- Yes, that's Jack Sparrow's ring that I always wear in my videos. I've been a Pirates of the Caribbean fan ever since I rode the ride for the first time ever in Disneyland when I was a kid.🤓

a cool thing about the Hi High choreo is, if you are familiar with the members and structure of Loona, it kind of follows a story. The first four girls that are shown are in the first subunit, Loona 1/3. The next three are OEC. The first chorus just has those two sub units - it’s not the full group shown in this performance video until after the part in the video where Olivia jumps and completes the group.

The performance version is a bit different from the actual routine they usually do for Hi High. In the performance version, the choreo put emphasis on and basically summarized the entire 2 year predebut story of how they got to this point. That's why you would see them divided in to their respective subunits in the beginning and then slowly come together as the song progresses. It was actually a nice "gift" to those who've followed along their predebut journey and kept up with the lore. I've much prefer this version than the one they usually do for Hi High, but that's just me being an Oldbit 😅

I love the performance version more too because I followed them since Heejin era so it's like a gift....but I know they have to do the 'on stage' version to show all OT12 from the start of the song anyway....

This version was also what they used in the music video (you can see there are fewer members during the first chorus). I think they might have updated it for the stage performance because it'd be strange to have yyxy sitting on the sideline until the 2nd half of the 2nd verse. Still, I feel you. Seeing this choreography version when it came out was such a nice treat.

yay, more loona!! one important thing to consider about the hi high performance video is that the choreo in this video is not the same as their stage choreo -- this choreo is more lore-based and often has different subunits featuring in their parts with the rest of the members on the side. hi high tells the story of the loonaverse and the girls meeting each other, so the choreo reflects that journey!!

I'm pretty sure that this has been mentioned by now, hopefully. Hi High is basically the finale of the origin story of LOONA as a group, all of their pre-debut solos and sub-unit releases all tell part of that story culminating in Hi High. There are actually a few locations in Hi High that reference moments in the previous solo & sub-unit. The Choreo video you watched in this video, as others have already mentioned, is not the actual choreography that they use during their live performances. This was a gift to fans that followed the whole story from the beginning, like the MV the Performance version is linked to the lore of the Loonaverse. The choreo that you see in the Performance version is not possible to do on a live stage due to positioning and travel of the girls in the routine. You will notice in the Performance version that some of the girls will exit the screen on one side and appear again on the other side (this would be hard to do on the live stages at music shows because they would have to run behind the camera or backstage) and also that members of some sub-units will interact with others as they did during the entire pre-debut project. I really suggest that you watch LOONA's solo & sub-unit MVs in order so that you can watch the story being told. Fair warning, a lot of the story told in the solo & sub-unit is left to interpretation, Blockberry does provide some narrative in the descriptions of the videos, but in the MVs a lot is left to how you as the viewer see the artistic and stylized stories in each MV. There are a few RU-vid videos that put out their own interpretation of the Loonaverse Lore based on their own research combined with the established lore and details that were officially released by Blockberry through descriptions and official released material (albums and short videos that were shared at fan meetings etc). You do not have to dive into the lore to be an Orbit, but it is another interesting aspect to LOONA. Welcome to the fandom!

This brings back memories of Loona's debut as a full 12 member group! This was their second debut release MV. "Favorite" was their first. I would encourage listen to other tracks on their debut album (Perfect Love & Stylish). It's so inspiring to see where they started (debut) to where they are now. Your observation of the choreography when they sing "High, Hi" was SPOT ON!!! - They are cranking from low to "high" and then waving as to also say "hi" - that was thought of/planned in the choreo :)

This MV actually symbolizes how Odd Eye Circle gathered all 12 members :) in their choreo too! It started with 8 members first, then at the 2nd verse you get to see oec then yyxy, then at the 2nd chorus, LOONA is complete! I really love this MV. Cant wait for you to get into ther solos and sub unit songs!

Loona - Hi High performance video follows the story of Loonaverse with their subunits....the formations are quite different when they perform on stage. Performance video is special video to tell their predebut journey.

hearing you enjoy hi high and point out nice moments of the song + choreo really makes me happy! at the time of release, there were a lot of ppl expressing disappointment; saying that hi high as a title track was a downgrade from favOriTe (the more sassy-like pre-release track). i personally really enjoy the hi high performance: there's tons of cute expressions and highlights to focus on!!

Exactly. It perfectly portrayed the deep secret of the narrative masked behind a seemingly "shallow" impression. Like, if you know, you know vibe. It's a whole new experience when an orbit watches the mv than that of that a casual viewer. You think you may have it all, the amazing cinematography, the visuals, the glamour shots, but there's a whole other layer when you know the narrative. And you find another level of appreciation knowing that these elements exist for a reason. Not just to make up a music video, there's always a purpose. Kudos to all the creative minds behind this.

I’m so glad u finally saw Hi High. I officially consider u an orbit personally. Btw, there was a new girl group that debuted this year named Cignature. And they had such a great debut and comeback. They also have very unique concepts and are a rather big group as well (you mentioned you like the visuals of bigger groups). Actually for the peformance vid most of the time ther dance base on their unit acept yeojin bcs she dont have any unit. Its ( 1/3 unit, ODD EYE CIRCLE unit and YYXY unit )

What the performance MV doesn't tell you... Each part of the dance is broken down by sub-unit...1/3 gets their shine first, OEC then comes in, and then Yeojin by herself. yyxy get their shot in the second part of the song before they all come together.
