Control always felt like Remedy's version of the Dark Tower. A story that acts as a nexus for all other places within the Remedy verse. I'm interested to see if future Remedy games reference it.
Oh you bet your bippy it was referenced heavily in Alan Wake 2. Alan Wake 2 will also have a second DLC released for it much like Control did, and it's going to be a DLC that leads in to Control 2 much like the AWE DLC directly lead in to Alan Wake 2.
having been a kid in a small town i can say with 100% certainty that kids will play in virtually anywhere they can (i think this dump was not a garbage dump but a dump for old furniture appliances and swing sets and things like in my home town we have one we called the rubble site)
I have the worst case of isolation revolving around this goddamn game. I was obsessed with it for years (still think its amazing) and just. nobody. else. had. played. it.
agreed, the lore/universe is just mindboggling and the gameplay is fun. Control made me feel more like a Jedi than any Star Wars game. I am so excited for Control 2. but being an EGS exclusive at first really hurt them on PC.
I love the lore in Control. It's world building through the FBC is something that's just, I think, tremendous and has so much potential for far-reaching stories inside of that universe. Love it!
What i do love that in a document you find, they discuss that weapons of mythical legend such as Thors Hammer and Excalibur were all possibly real and might have been Objects of Power
I glad we finally gained clearance after the previous seminar. I have been trapped in the filing rooms for... How long has it been? I don't remember... Anyway, higher clearance! Yay!
I LOVE Control! Absolutely one of my favorites. I have always liked the SCP stories, so a game clearly inspired by them was immediately on my radar. Also, gotta say, when it comes to the levitate ability, they did a great job capturing this dream-like sensation.
Don't get me wrong i love Remedy, i absolutely adore the Max Payne 2, and still remember it to this day. I love most of their games, but CONTROL is rather bland... It has very nice mechanics, but never truly explored... It's such a shame too..
This video is a FANTASTIC explainer of the events of Control, a game I've played through twice and still did not completely understand what was happening.
the most interesting, and telling part for me, about the lore in the foundation is that the cave paintings were carbon dated to being done AFTER the FBC arrived, but were made in a way to imply that they'd been there forever. the manipulations started basically right away
greatest lore/story video about Control I've seen so far, and I've seen a handful of them because it's both confusing and intriguing to me. Well done, lady!
I'm pretty sure. Dylan and Jesse are the same person. There is some more about it in the game where there wasn't really records of two children prior to this event happening. Jesse was extremely lonely as a kid so this event caused her to almost split. Dylan alludes to as much.
Dylan can be talked to and he will go into random rants and monologues, but in one of them, he talks about a dream he had. In the dream, he wasn't a boy, but a girl. A girl that was lonely but safe. One who had dreams and was happy in spite of it all. That girl's name was Dylan. When I first heard that, it made my head swim. Dylan? Jesse? These are incredibly ambiguous names. Who is supposed to be who in this story? Is Dylan telling us that the two of them are the same person, or is he dreaming of an alternate reality where that is the case? The game is is very vague about this but the breadcrumbs it leaves are amazing. UPDATE: I found a video of all of Dylan's dreams and I am definitely misremembering some details, but holy cow those scenes are amazing.
I'm so happy the algorithm brought me here. Your narrative style is exactly what I was looking for. I'll be browsing the playlists until pt 2 is out. Good shit 👏🏿
Thank you for doing Control and Alan Wake. Not sure why I was recently recommended these videos, but I'm so glad I watched them (and then Death Stranding, the wild trip that game is). I'd watched a playthrough of AW (when I wasn't able to drag myself through it) and beat Control, but these videos really solidified concepts and made things make more sense for me, and they were thoroughly entertaining, to boot. Thank you, Tiptoe!
This games breaks the 4th and 5th walls while telling you the gamer that’s some of the characters are aware of you playing their story, made by an author, written by writers, and put into affect by developers.
I am so grateful for this lore video because as much as I love Control, the game really punishes you for not reading every single document. I had zero awareness about the stuff with Neil and Trench’s daughter. I really hope Alan wake 2 is more forgiving because the stories are so interesting.
It isn't clearcut but IMHO Max Payne is also a Parautilitarian with his abilities centred around perception. Bullet Time is that feeling of time slowing down during an adrenalin rush made real. The fact that he has been shot to hell and back but still lives? He takes pain killers, doesn't Feel hurt and hey presto, now he is fine again. Also fits with how he still very much can die, too much physical trauma in one go will kill him before he can grab his pills.
I loooooooved this game & Im so glad to have found a channel thoroughly going over its lore. Instant subscribe haha looking forward to the next part as I go through your catalog of other lore videos!
@TiptoeTheTank Keep an Eye out for an upcoming podcast, The Magnus Protocol, produced by Rusty Quill. It draws inspiration from Control and, if the writer's past work is anything to go by, is something to Look forward to.
Played this game for the first time two years ago and I finally picked it back up to beat it recently and what timing!!!! I can’t wait for these to come out while my obsession for this game is high! Lolol
SAM LAKE is genius or yes his writing makes him an actual max payne which still makes him one of the best shoulder to shoulder with KOJIMA for me & the highlight of this game that made me a fan is matthew poretta aka dr jesper darling aka ALAN WAKE voice actor. his performance is outstanding so much so that i didn't played the game but rather than seeing the gameplay i seen his video footages of this game which i always adore.
this video is awesome by the way... and it gets me excited to think what remedy has in store next... I love their Lovecraftian based storytelling... top notch s*** here
Question..so you said that the FDC found 7 slides originally. But then a few minutes later I heard you say that they were burned all except for polarises world slide. I'm sure it's just a small detail I missed or misheard but was wondering if you could help clear that up for me? Love the channel by the way. Admittedly I only just found you but I've listened to a handful of your lore videos and I'm not being hyperbolic when I say it's one of the best lore channels on RU-vid. Right up there with Vatividyaa imo. You break everything down so neatly and throughly and even inject a bit of your own personality into the lore which is one of my favorite things about this channel.
Hell yeah! From what I remember of the logs, the FBC found 7 burned up slides (only 1 was salvageable - the "Hand" slide), but when they interviewed little Jesse and then little Dylan, they gave different numbers. Jesse said there were 9 slides. Dylan said there were 8 slides. So, what happened to the other 1 or 2 slides is unknown! They might have been burnt up into nothing. Or maybe... they're still out there someplace. Huehuehuehueheuheuhe.
Can't wait for Control 2 - When I played Control for the first time I was facinated by the game and its story/lore, Remedy just knows how to make an interesting game.
