I don't think a lot of the people complaining about puzzle solve time realize how often their 'intuition' is just a vocabulary they've built up over many years of puzzling. I've been massively looking forward to your playthrough, take it at your own pace. There's that old quote, "now you're thinking with portals" and it's true, there's a lot of mental reorienting you have to do first

Just to add context to the "60 years left to do it" line from GLaDos, she's estimating your natural lifespan of dying from old age.

The boots, called "The Long Fall Boots" are the game's answer to why you don't break your legs or otherwise take fall damage, despite often falling at terminal velocity thanks to portals.

Wheatley said 'him' simply because he didn't know the details, he was unaware that it was you that defeated GLaDOS. There's no other human involved (at least not directly, but check out the Lab Rat comic by Valve if you want to know more about the Aperture Science employee who made the drawings that you find in the game, it bridges the gap between Portal 1 and 2).

1:26:50 This is the true Portal experience. The thrill of figuring out the solution, followed by the how stupid we all feel for taking so long to figure it out. I hated how long I took to solve this one when I played it.

GLaDOS' dialogue is so perfect, I love how petty she is.

I do love how aperture insists on making their own version of everything no matter how simple, and giving it a very science-y name that's at least three words longer than necessary

"We both said a lot of things that YOU'RE going to regret." Still one of my favorite lines from any villian ever.

One of my favourite bits early in Portal 2 is around 9:05 in this video. Wheatly says: "I think this is a docking station. Get ready..." The wall right in front literally reads "Docking station 600 ft below" So of course the room just smashes into the wall, because this is not a docking station (it is 600 ft above one though) And then classic' Wheatly: "Good news: that is NOT a docking station." and then "I'm going to attempt a manual override on this wall." I am going to try to physically get this wall out of the way.

You're puzzling through the puzzles at a perfectly reasonable rate, I can see your thought process in them, you're very clearly working out the logic People forget that Portal really messes with your brain, I guarantee they were the exact same way when they started and they just forgot, but now they've played through it and they have all the new portal-based brain connections set up and don't understand that it's not innate it's learned

Those "leg splints" are jump boots. It's why you can go flinging yourself through portals a million feet in the air, they will always re-align your feet to the ground and land with them absorbing all of the dangerous impact. Part of the science that gets done at Aperture Science. (They're a video game reason why you can fall over and over and not break your bones.)

I absolutely love how petty Glados is.

It's truly amazing how well Portal 2 holds up.

I love watching people that are playing the game for the first time because you can see the look on their face when the puzzle finally clicks.

God I love GLaDOS, the voice acting is top notch, but whoever wrote her dialogue is just all sorts of brilliant.

I played portal 2 before portal 1 (still yet to play it) and I love it. Wheatly is my favourite charater, but GLaDOS is too ruthless not to be liked. The moment you and Wheatly walked past the turret: Turret: "Hello?" Me: "I'm different" Meg: *Walks Past* Turret: "I'm different." Me: *Squeals in excitement* Meg: *Turns back and squeals in excitement* This game is tops. Also other games in the Valve catalogue, you should definitely react to the 'Meet the Mercenaries' which are character shorts for Team Fortress 2 (also the community is fun) like the VA's really love playing these characters and are still active and some have recently been recreating them.

Fun fact about Portal that isn’t going to spoil too much. Portal and Half Life take place in the same universe, both of their major companies referencing each other regularly in the lore

I like skimming through Portal playthroughs sometimes because I love how people interact with this amazingly built story mainly. Love that you fully interact with the dialogue!

I had actually never heard about portal until the second one was coming out, it had so much hype around it's release. I actually own a GameStop GameInformer magazine that features portal 2 on the cover. I was able to play it when someone my family knew had pre ordered it. I beat it the same night I started playing it. Just played straight through the whole thing, with no knowledge of portal. jesus it was hard

The leg splints are so that Chell can survive infinite falls created by putting one portal above another.

GLaDOS is great in this game, and the story gets more interesting compared to the first.

I love watching you figure out the puzzles and listen to and think about the characters and dialogue! The way they expanded on Portal in this game is honestly fantastic, and it's definitely up there in my favorite games of all time. There may be a bit of frustration watching the puzzles, but then I remember I've been playing video games since I was around 4 and started with FPS games, so I have a bit more intuition for these sorts of things, hah. And your editing is on point! Enough so we can see the struggle, and then the great moments of realization! Thanks for recording and uploading this for us to enjoy, despite the people that are rude and passive-aggressive.

I'm loving the playthrough so far. I suggest reading the comic that takes place in between portal 1 and 2. It would give a lot of context.

I'm just praying after this you start your Metal Gear Solid journey. It will be a series that I know you'll fall in love with. It has everything, and I mean literally everything. It has all the emotions, some of the most bizarre moments and characters, cringe moments. It is one of - if not THE wildest ride in a gaming franchise you could have.

The first thing glados did first after reviving is thowing you down the same incinerator as you did her.

Hopefully it's okay say this, because I don't believe it's ever said in-game, but the leg harness things are just long-fall boots that make it so test subjects don't take damage from high falls. PS. can't wait to see the rest of this!

GLaDOS is a very very complex AI, you will understand her more in the future. She is exeedengly smart and terrifiying at the same time. She does this for fun, she knows how to be sarcastic, she knows how to make you feel bad, she is capable of "feeling" emotions

Honestly, that last puzzle stumps so many people. It stumped me for a while when I first played the game and almost everyone else I've seen play the game forget some aspect of how you solve that. I've seen people take longer than you did so you're doing good. Most of the solutions to puzzles in this game are deceptively simple so that once you know them, it's not hard to do mechancally, it's just a matter of piecing together all the steps that you know which isn't always easy. It's very rare that a puzzle has a super precise or convoluted solution.

@17:35 "There can be an awesome movie." There is a Portal short film that you can still watch on RU-vid I think. Interestingly, it was directed by Dan Trachtenberg early in his career, and his most recent film was the Predator sequel, Prey.

LOVE seeing you so excited about all the writings on the wall! One of my favorite things about Portal 2 is seeing those. I did in fact play Portal 2 first, and it was one of the first games I ever 100% completed with the achievements!

Meg! Finally intersected with the gaming part of your world - yay! What I think makes a great puzzle game with well-designed puzzles -- and I'm totally stealing this line (paraphrased) from a review of a different, recently released game, because it's SO true -- is that you find yourself alternating between thinking you're obviously the dumbest person on planet Earth and then realizing that you're actually the smartest. There's nothing like that moment of epiphany when you finally figure it out. I can't tell you how many times this game had me slapping my forehead with one hand an pumping my fist with the other. And the writing in Portal 2 is so, so good. You've only scratched the surface. Also, although it's early, and you have a lot of portal-ing still to do, the other puzzle centric game (that I mentioned the review of) is The Talos Principle 2, which combines some great puzzle solving with compelling characters, great writing and voice acting, and some really interesting philosophical questions. I think you might really enjoy that one (and yeah, the original Talos Principle is also really good, but I think #2 is orders of magnitude better and you probably could treat #1 as optional). Like I said, something to consider another time, and you may want to take a break from puzzle land by the time you finish this one, but, I dunno, keep Talos 2 in the back of your mind. Meantime, have fun!

So glad to see you hop into Portal 2 so soon after 1! Might be a longshot, but I hope you’ll try out Half Life sometime after this!

after you finish portal 2 single player I 100% reccommend finding someone to play the coop campaign with. It's extremely cute, and fun to figure out the puzzles with a friend. I ended up playing through most of it with randos from steam and no voice chat, but I still remember it very fondly.

I love the music in this game. Many things play their own melody. Companion cube is playing "Love as a construct"

I'll be honest, I didn't comment on your portal 1 playthrough, but I found myself feeling both frustrated *AND* supportive at the same time hahaha! Some of the things it was taking you a while to grasp had me almost wanting to tear my hair out, but it was still plenty satisfying when it finally clicked, and I would struggle not to enjoy any playthrough of this series! It'd be super cool if you could check out the Half Life series next, since without spoiling any details, those games share a universe with Portal! P.S.: if you want some more answers elaborating on what's going on with that mural near the beginning of this game, there's a short comic set before/during the events of the first game you can check out. It should be freely available on the Valve website for Portal.

Literally just finished the first playthrough - so hyped you already have part of the second out! Dont listen to the naysayers - you're doing phenomenal. I love to see the excitement and the light go off once you figure it out after various trials! Portal 2 is so great - excited to see the rest of it when youre finished 🥰

Wow, you got to this quick! So glad! This game is a classic; definitely one of my favorites and just an absolute joy to play. The dialog is (as you've noticed, haha) stupidly hilarious and fantastic, and both Wheatley and GLaDOS are wonderful characters who both get some great development! I look forward to seeing you play this and experience this incredible story. (Also, some of the later chambers are fairly complex. Like you, at times I found myself stumped, finally something clicked and I was ashamed I didn't get it sooner, lol.)

No worries about taking a while on some test, over complicating it for yourself is a standard part of the portal experience. That's why I love chamber 8, people either get it immediately or struggle with it for a looong time. I'm actually a bit disapointed when people do get it immediately

I love this let's play!! I played the series like 10 years ago and don't really remember much so I love rediscovering it alongside you ❤ Also you're doing super well imo! Like sure there were some puzzles I thought were easier but then other times you solved the puzzles way before I would have 😅

That last puzzle tends to stump a lot of players when they play this game for the first time even though the solution is pretty simple. Believe it or not if you’re stuck on a puzzle that means you’re overthinking it and you need to take a step back and think in more simpler terms. It’s part of what makes this game so challenging and yet so much fun and rewarding when you complete it.

Portal are really good on making you think about some crazy way to solve the puzzle and then realize that the puzzle are actualy easy. then you think that you are actually dumb for thinking too much!

You really have to think differently when playing portal. You dont normally play with the expectation of you go in one place, come out not on the other side of where you enter. Then remember about momentum and aiming mid air to jump somewhere else. Its hard to get into the headspace, but once you figure it out, it gets easier

So excited for this! Portal 1 is great... Portal 2 is phenomenal! If you liked the first one, you're gonna fall in love with the second for sure!

Portal 2 is one of my favorites. To this day, i still quote some lines you'll find later! Dont worry about the puzzles. Just keep thinking with portals and it will all work out!
