Update: I have had the 2 spinal surgeries needed since 05' in the last 10 days. Wheeled down in ridiculous pain- first thought when I came to on 26.5 was that pain is gone😭 omg such an emotional week. I pray that pain never returns. Please celebrate life. Thank you for all support and prayer🕊🤍

Tremendously emotional performance- but I always take note that every syllable, every breath is controlled and nuanced. It seems She has a phenomenal ability to control and build the drama in a performance. And yes, we can't forget the accompanyists who are right there to frame and build the sound. True professionals all.
I was impressed with Morgan when I saw her with Post Modern Jukebox but I did not connect with her on an artistic level because I thought that PMJ was just a fun gimmick. So a couple of years ago now RU-vid put this very video in front of me. When I read the title my initial reaction was who does this woman think she is singing this classic Aretha song? So it was with if not hate then serious skepticism that I pressed play. Totally stunned at what I experienced I pressed play again, and again and again. I listened to this song for 45 minutes straight trying to figure out what was happening to me. The answer was simple. Morgan James is a world class singer. She is an artist in full. Listening to her music has been a joy in my life. This was my gateway to a total Morgan James addiction. Looking forward to seeing her perform in person someday soon.

Amazing, not only does Morgan know how to deliver the performance but also knows how to work the microphone turning her head and very the distance when needed to get the volume and tone right. Singers, .. pay attention. This is how it's done. Oh, and by the way that's not some super sensitive condensor mic, that's a Shure SM7 dynamic mic! So you can just image the sound levels coming from her that requires those kind of moves. This session is a master class in... class :-).

I love Morgan James' voice and no exaggeration I think it may be the best voice on planet earth, if not one of the top few. But sometimes I really wish she would take her soulful classic voice and pair it with the unexpected/modern songs. Like I would love to see her sing Ed Sheeran's I see Fire, I think it would be amazing. Consider that an official request!
***** Thanks! I check PMJ every week on Thursday for a new video but I forgot to yesterday so I watched it after you linked. I LOVE PMJ videos and I particularly love PMJ w/Morgan James. However, I didn't really like this performance very much. Didn't like her phrasing and the way she sung it. Which is strange because I love most of the stuff she or PMJ does. Per usual her vocals were off the charts. That's not even something I have to ever think about since I know she'll knock anything out of the park with ease. I also generally like when she/PMJ does more modern songs, I love the juxtaposition of their soulful style with a modern song.
Morgan's voice range, timing, passion and soul makes the hair on the back of my neck.. stand up🙏🔥❤️ Don't forget to be proud of yourself Morgan...you are outstanding.
