that whole album is amazing. they havent even skimmed the surface of the cure...starting with 'a forest'...'lets go to bed'...'bots don't cry'...'inbetween days'...' charlotte sometimes'...'the walk'...'close to me'...' hot hot hot'...'never enough'... 'pictures of you'..'fascination street '....should i go on??? jay and amber...give the people what they want!! more Cure!!
Me too, since I was 13 in the early 80s and my eldest sister brought an album back from her first term at uni. They were still a bit of a cult band at the time and almost nobody at my school had heard of them. Hard to believe now, but they didn't get huge until about 89, 13 years after forming and after 8 albums.
The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees were very much the proto-Goth bands. Their dark style totally informed the Goth trend to come. Very Tim Burton as you noted - Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc. Check out Siouxsie and the Banshees Happy House for a very weird experience!
All Cure songs have a killer bass line. My wife surprised me by taking me to the Cure concert at Madison Square Garden in June. I was out of my mind. Great concert They haven't lost a step. When it was over Robert Smith walked around the stage to thank his fans. Nobody left despite the lights being on. We gave him a 10-minute standing ovation. He was visibly moved. He's an amazing talent and a truly nice guy. Huge Cure fan for life. LIsten to as much as you can.
The great bassist Simon Gallup was always the coolest member of The Cure and has been there grinding out killer lines from his low-slung bass for almost 40-years now. He's basically The Cure's answer to Peter Hook of New Order.
We saw them in Dallas this year. I have never missed a Cure show. But it has been awhile since they were here and I kept saying they sound JUST THE SAME. AMAZING. And I may have shed a tear at the end during the standing ovation. You could just tell how moved Robert was.
Amber catches on to songs so quickly. I think "sleep paralysis" is a brilliant call. And of course this is such an appropriate song for the spookiness of halloween.
Disintegration deserves to be in the conversation as one of the most seminal albums of all time. It is an absolute masterpiece that just gets better with age. It cements The Cure as probably the most influential band to come out of that Era.
Ooh, excellent choice. The bass in this is brilliant. You've got to check out "The Forest" too. Been a huge fan of the Cure since the early eighties. Robert Smith gets a lot of his inspiration for these songs from his dreams. A perfect piece of dark, moody pop. Thanks guys, Paul.😉📀🎶❤️
@@cliffwheeler7357 actually the TWO BASSES. The main melody is also played on bass. The Cure often used two or even in a few cases, three bass guitars on a lot of songs.
Happy Halloween 🎃! Love The Cure. London Calling was The Clash, not The Cure. You should check out 'A Forest' by The Cure, and also Siouxsie and the Banshees (Spellbound, Israel, Love in a Void, Face to Face, and Siouxsie's solo song 'Into a Swan'), with whom Robert Smith (The Cure singer) played bass early on.
“Pictures of you”, “Letter to Elise”…. Lots of great song to explore. Listen to the whole Cure album “Disintegration”, Share a joint with a old friend or lover when you do.
Love the Cure so much! I got to see them in concert for my birthday in June and they still sound so incredibly good. The lights for this one were mesmerizing. They have been going since the 70s and they're still putting out new music. They have so many great songs, the list is endless. That's Robert Smith singing and Simon Gallup on bass. He is a lot of fun to watch live. He wears his bass hung very low and is in constant motion. Next year, you've gotta check out "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus for Halloween. It's a goth classic.
This band molded my teenage years and it really fills my Gen X year heart with happy seeing a new generation discover and APPRECIATE the awesomeness that is The Cure. Such a great reaction!
Robert Smith and The Cure latched on to me in the late 80's and it was glorious. They were different but their music was strangely amazing! Great choice.
The Cure and dark bands like this are in a category called Post Punk. After punk and before new wave synth bands. To see the Cure this last summer in June was amazing and his voice is still the same as when I saw them in 92. Please listen to Elise on their album Wish. It is one of those songs that stays with you. Please! 🖤🩶🖤🩶
I always wondered if this song was about depression, but it's so beautifully done and almost calming in a way. Love the Cure so much! Another song you might like of theirs is "A Forest" - which is an earlier song and one of my favorites. Another great song that is fitting at this time of year is Concrete Blonde's "Bloodletting". Happy Halloween Lovies! ❣
One of the greatest bands ever. They started in the 70s. You need to get into their early stuff from their first 4 albums…songs like A Forest, Boys Don’t Cry, Primary, 10:15 Saturday Night, Hanging Garden, Play For Today…you’ll see how much of a creative band they really are.
One of best 80's bands!! Check out these bangers: "Just Like Heaven".. "The Walk".. "Close to Me".. "NEVER ENOUGH".. "In between Days".. "The Lovecats".. and fave "Charlotte Sometimes".. Cheers
This was my band back in high school, man. I bought this album on the day it came out. Saw them in concert a little while later. Right in front, at the Rosemont Horizon. That was something.
Why we are talking about the Cure , there is a movie that is perfect for Halloween. The Crow awesome soundtrack and a cure song is featured Burn , I believe you would love the movie and the song. The Cure is my favorite band. Forest, Pictures of You , High, Push , so many more .
BEST The Cure song, in my opinion: “Fascination Street” 🔥🔥🔥 The Cure crosses generations in my house; my husband and I were fans in our late teens, early 20’s and this year my 31 year old son and his girlfriend went to see them at Madison Square Garden ❤
One of my favorite songs from my favorite bands! Just saw them in concert this summer. They were amazing and Robert Smith sounds just as good live and in his 60’s! I recommend reacting to “Why Can’t I Be You next. It’s a totally different vibe, even though I love their darker songs.
In regards to your comment, Edward Scissorhands came out a couple of years after The Cure made this song and video clip. Apparently Tim Burton based Edward’s hair upon Robert Smiths (The Cure lead singer). So there’s definitely a connection between the two.
I have ALL their albums, a HUGE fan - I could recommend many, though no doubt others are doing that. My all-time favourite of theirs is the power-house song Watching Me Fall.
So many great the cure songs ... a forest , boys don't cry , inbetween days , pictures of you , killing an arab , the walk , close to me , why can't i be you , just like heaven , never enough , burn (from the movie "the crow" (deel 1)) , 10.15 on a saterday night , .......
I have seen hundreds of your reactions Jay & Amber, this one may be my favorite reaction! Great choice for Halloween, not only a great song, but a fantastic music video to go along with it. I suggested this several times, from what I see the song did not disappoint! Their early songs are great, "Boys Don't Cry" and "A Forest" are among their best, and we fans demand they play both at each concert. Happy Halloween!
Robert Smith is a genius. My stepfather is their life long fan. One day he was serving a drink to a guest from the UK here in Lake Bled, Slovenia and the guest looked remarkably like Robert Smith, and he told him that and added: "but you probably don't know who that is." And the guest answered: "um actually i do, because i'm his brother." You can imagine the shock on my stepfather's face 😂 (He later looked it up and it was true)
The Cure is still my favorite alt rock band (alternative rock was a separate music genre then). I still have some of their cds. They were phenomenal and I also loved their whole look, and vibe, which reminded me of The Addams Family. While I love music videos, but they along with compilation/"best of" albums rob you of the original album version of artists' songs, where they usually jammed several minutes longer on both fast and slow songs. 2&3 minute songs were really rare. Bands truly had and recorded phenomenal jam sessions and The Cure could definitely jam!
All the violin sounds were played by Roger O'Donnell on a EMU Emax II sampler. Live we has to use foot pedals connect to the emax in order to make all the violin sounds. You should check out the extended remix version
For those of us who were right into this music scene at the time, the idea of "every day is Hallowe'en" was a mantra we lived by. Try "Bela Lugosi is Dead" by Bauhaus. Beautiful song. Very dark. Narrative. It's an ode to the actor who was famous for playing Dracula and later all manners of horror characters. For the Goths and other self-described "freaks" and "pariahs" at the time, Lugosi was one of our icons.
You have to check out the acoustic version of this song by the Cure with two percussionists and the guitars are sensational! Do it! This rendition is totally cool!
The Cure is one of the most under appreciated bands. The music is always stellar, the lyrics are often weird but always interesting. My recommendation would be "Close To Me" or "In Between Days". "Hot Hot Hot" is a lot of fun.
This is off the Disintegration album. The same album includes - Love song which you have already reacted to. Pictures of you, lullaby - this one. Fascination Street - (Definitely a funky vide), and of course the masterpiece that is Disintegration. That song is FIRE. The Bass line starts and ends the song, just ten minutes of pure bumping bass.
The Cure is a "fascinating group" indeed. The first single off this album is called "Fascination Street". And if you love bass like I love bass, and like Rob certainly loves bass, it has a incredible bass line. That said, I know you would also love "Pictures of You" which is just endlessly beautiful, and romantic, as well.
