Sorry to hear that your engine failure. Sounds like a bad lifter or two, especially with you down on power. My C7 was purchased from Classic Chevrolet in Sugarland.

My 17 Z06 broke an exhaust valve and destroyed the piston, cylinder sleeve and head all because gm decided to make the valves hollow... yours sounds almost like a lifter collapsed. good luck with whatever it is.

Jeez thank god for the warranty I always recommend a great quality warranty with any used car because you just never know. Hope they can get this fixed for you asap my friend but good thing is you are ok, I'm sure they can fix the car.

Brink of Speed Do you know if your Chevy dealer is a GM performance dealer? Since you’re down, this might be a good time to look at the GM performance parts catalog since you’re past the break in point and get some extra HP that doesn’t void your warranty!

That car will be gone for at least 3 weeks . Knowing how most dealerships are . Having to order the engine ship it and install it and weekends and lunch breaks getting in the way of all that .

Mike I just watched more of your video. May I suggest from experience of F...N car problems. Almost always tow your car even if it is under warrantee. you can complain about the tow cost at the end of the day. The reason is Most car companies may come back and say you damaged your car by driving it with the check engine light on and caused the damage to get worse damaging other parts by driving it and they may not consider all damage under this warrantee. Remember warrantees are written by lawyers that are gonna be more in favor for the manufacturer.

Oh wow Mike - that's terrible news! While I think it's a little paranoid, but one of your comments said to delete this video and I agree. I've had my 2016 C7 Stingray for almost 70,000 miles and no issues. This is with bolt-ons and a custom tune vs. stock like what you had. Best of luck and keep us informed!

Something happened to my 2011 SS camaro, my number 7 piston blew, they said it was possibly bad gas...spent $9k on a brand new LS3 because I was 5k miles over the 100k powertrain smh. Good Luck Bro!!! I'm in a Z06 Z07 like yours now.

Hey Mike If GM makes either changes to fix your engine or offers to give you a new engine, ask them if they can updates parts on your car like the changes they made to address the supercharger cooling issues on earlier c7 z06s. Either way like that it's all covered and should be.

Sorry to hear dont wish that on anybody let alone a Corvette owner. Valve train in those are weak. Alot of aftermarket companies have upgrades for them. Especially when you get head work or a camshaft put in.

It doesn't sound like a bottom end engine issue, but rather something connected to the engine. Although it could be a valve train issue, like a broken rocker arm for example. Or it may be an accessory issue of some kind. In any case I'm sure they'll be able to fix it. So try not to become too stressed out. It'll be ok. :)

Broken rocker arm or failed lifter damaged cam lobe or broken valve spring If oil pressure is ok then you can rule out rod bearing damage

It’s an auto. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the torque tube. I’m watching the video on my phone, so, it’s hard to tell. It’s definitely not good. I think the torque tube rebuild on Chevys dime is like $8k. I’ve never heard of it happening to a manual, and rumor has it, it’s from the Auto forcibly going into 4cyl mode, when the manual, you can choose whether or not it ever goes into eco. Plus 1 for the extended warranty. I have a 6/150 on mine. On a side note, my friend bought an E63 AMG for like $35k. I said, “get an extended warranty.” He drove the car hard, for a year before he had a piston issue in cylinder 6. The E63 AMG crate motor, is $54,000 and $3,500 for labor.

If your car is acting up. You never continue to drive it. The possibilities of causing more damage increase exponentially the longer it's on. Regardless of having an extended warranty or not. It's just not conducive to do so. You can request a flatbed tow truck because of how low your car sit. You just need to make sure they have wood blocks so your car can get on the bed. It sounds like a lifter issue since its coming from up top. Rod knocks are a little louder and lower when they make noise. Fingers crossed its the lifters and they can get you in and out quickly.

Dude, I wouldn't be that sad with an extended warranty. My wife and I purchased a extended warranty for a used vehicle from the dealer. We had to take it back several times for issues. They gave us a loner car everytime. The biggest issue was picking out which loner to try/drive. Pick up and drop off was cake. So your golden. Don't worry be happy.

Why didn’t you tow it to the dealer? If that’s a spun rod bearing you’re doing more. Damage. Based on your oil temps it may not be as serious as you think. Oil temps would be high if it’s metal on metal

my other guess would be a valve dropped after the keepers come out and the piston is beating against thev valve...I don't think its a rod bearing because in a short time the rod would come out the side of the block. I don't think you will ever hear what the real problem was they will just drop in a new motor

If it sounds awful and it seems to be getting worse why do you keep driving it. New engine for sure. You will damage the catalytic converters and 02 sensors if you have damaged valves or pistons.

Sounds like a belt tensioner pulley to me because it’s more quiet at idle and then kicks up on acceleration.

You know, you folks have to understand how fragile the Z06 engine and supercharger is. It is built like glass. If you want to beat the shit out of a C7 engine, get the Grand Sport buddy. Track it all day!! Even the ZR1 can't handle tracking for long without engine heat damage. Do your homework guys....

I have a 2019 Z06 and hope to never hear that. Everyone in the comments is trying to diagnose it by the sound (I quickly saw: rod, rocker, torque this, blah that). The truth is that the video’s audio is not that good for diagnosis and they can’t really know. If everyone throws out a guess, someone will be right. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. So don’t let them freak you out prior to getting the call from the mechanic. For all they know, it could be a damn spark plug wire came off or something else electronic which regulates piston firing. And if not, you have that warranty. Next time, prior to driving it in, call OnStar and ask them to run a remote diagnostic. These cars have enough sensors in them that sometimes the remote diagnostic can provide useful information from which to decide whether to tow it in or drive it in. The fact that you were able to drive it to the dealership may be the best indication of the level of severity.

Boy, the first short sound clip sure sounded like a bad lifter, or even piston slap. Oil pressure at 33lbs? Is that normal? I got two words for this "situation," and it ain't Let's Dance. Good luck and look forward to hearing what the diagnosis is.

My Z06 is brand new and when hot the oil pressure is around 21-25 at idle and I thought that was low. The oil pumps in these cars are variable staged for better fuel economy according to GM.

You can eliminate a lot of bad things with normal temps. Is 34 psi oil pressure normal for 64mph at that rpm in your car? From the audio it has a bad lifter noise sound to it??? I would first guess lose plug wire (and wouldnt hurt to check), but the tapping is not compatible with simply a lose plug wire. Hopefully a minor issue. Good luck!!

Took a little time for the knock sensor to pick up the code. 🤔 curious to know if the rod bearings let loose. If it was not under warranty. Take a sample of the oil and have it sent to the lab. Definitely sounds like a valve tap, hope the timing marks are on mark. Hope it gets resolved quick and smoothly

Brink of Speed - BTW- why would you want to keep driving it if it’s damaged? No common sense in that decision. Just saying. You probably have towing and rental on your auto insurance! Any reputable company would flatbed it into the dealer. Hope they don’t deny your claim because of your choices. Good luck.

The good news is that it’s on video. If Chevy can’t duplicate it, they will not fix it. I hope you get a new engine. You need to shut off the camera and hit it a couple more times just to be sure. Good luck 🍀 I say drop the LT5 in and she how she does. It’s the least they could do.

Thankfully nobody got hurt. You shouldn't have driven it to the dealer. Your warranty would've covered the towing and you wouldn't put your own life or anyone elses life in danger by running a defective car like that! It could've hand-grenaded on the highway and you'd lose complete control. Next time think safer! Anyway, good luck with the car.

Jeez Mike ...Bummer... Brink of Disaster .. Nevermind what I said yestetday don't keep it trade it in on a C8...review it for a year on your channel...then get a 2021 or 2022 Vette...The 1st year C8 will likely be riddled with issues, especially electrical and you can document it all..!!😥
