Bootsy is Bootsy Collins, bass player supreme out of Cincinnati. He started playing with James Brown before he joined George Clinton's bands, Parliament and Funkadelic. He played on Dee-lite's Groove Is In the Heart, he's the guy with the wild glasses. You should hear his song, Body Slam. It's incredible! Also, Funkadelic's One Nation Under a Groove is a must hear, as is George Clinton's Atomic Dog!

Yes! Cincinnati, home of King Records, the studio where James Brown recorded someone his best work. The Isley Brothers did as well. Shout out to OH, the home of Heatwave, Zapp & Roger, Lakeside, Slave, the Ohio Players and many of Funk legends!

You've got that right! Zapp and Roger originally started as Roger and the Human Body and used to play at the Lockbourne AFB NCO club in the 70's. My father used to check ids at the door after he retired from the Air Force and used to tell me how great the band was. Only much later did I find out it was Roger Troutman and Zapp!@@seanswinton6242

Sixteen members of Parliament-Funkadelic were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2019, the group was given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. (What else do you need to say) P Funk is in a whole category of their own.

You're right Jay, a Parliament Funkadelic concert is AMAZING! I saw them in concert in Macon, Georgia around 1977 or 1978... let me tell you! They landed "The Mothership" on the stage & literally partied ALL NIGHT & parents were waking up looking for their teenage children...they were still at the concert! Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, that caused the city of Macon to put a curfew on concerts after that! The concerts were no longer aloud to go past midnight! 😁 True story! It was an awesome time!

OMG!!! I was at that concert. I will always remember the image of George Clinton performing in a diaper. My mom wasn't happy because she had to wait a couple of hours when she came to pick up my siblings and I from the Coliseum!

@@pattyduke3079 You're right about that. I'm from DC as well and The Capital Center was not open that late but if it was I would have been sneaking to go even though I was 18 in 1977. I did go once without permission for new year's eve 1976. It was The Brothers Johnson and Jimmy Castor Bunch💃💃💃🤗🤗🤗

That's amazing! I saw them at First Ave in Minneapolis and once they started, they did not stop. Folks would rotate in and out of the line up but the music didn't stop. Absolutely incredible live performance.

The Mothership was housed in the African American Museum in DC when I visited some years ago. I got to stand just a few feet away from it and took some pictures.

I saw George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic about twenty years ago and it was one of the most fun concerts I've ever been to. It was in a small place but everyone was dancing. At the end of their show, they kept playing cause we were all having fun, and the place actually turned off the electricity eventually to their equipment. They still kept singing and the crowd was singing too until we were all kicked out. I was just in town to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and saw they were playing near my hotel, so my husband and I just decided to go, and we ended up having one of the most awesome nights ever.

Fun fact, the tradition of people holding up lighters at concerts started with Parliament Funkadelic and their song Flashlight. Whenever they perform the song flashlight their audience would hold up flashlights. And that evolved onto people bringing cigarette lighters.

'1975’ funk brings down the house like no other decade! Parliament & Funkadelic are two different bands that collaborated & toured with each other throughout the 70’s & very early 80's who also performed, toured with Bootsy Collins! ❤ Thank you for this old school flashback

To Experience P-Fuck Live & The Mothership Connection Tour live during that time was my Woodstock experience of my youth & was also an experience of race love where are were welcome & no bad blood in the house... No Sir. Parliament and Funkadelic are one and the same. Only difference Parliament features a brass section and Repetitious chants to their dance floor music. Funkadelic allows these very same musicians to exploit a more hard-rock-metal that featured the legendary EDDIE HAZEL and Gary Shider in the early days, and Glenn Goins, Mike Hampton and Dwayne BLACKBYRD McNIGHT LATER ON. All 5 are in the R and R HOF. I attended the "CHOCOLATE CITY JAM" concert in Washington D.C. at RFK Stadium in 1977. Headlines were Parliament, Funkadelic, Bootsys Rubberband, Mutiny, ( P-Funk drummer Jerome Brailey's solo act.) Parlet,Brides of Funkenstein (Backup female vocals solo acts, Bernie Worrell and Kingdom Come ( Eddie Hazel's solo act. Other than Bootsy, Rodney Curtis and Phelps Collins pulling Bass duties the whole night. Bernie and Junie Morrison sharing keyboards and PEANUT and Mudbone singing backup, 5 and half hours and very seldom did anyone leave the stage. They also played a few songs from Fred Wesley's group THE HORNEY HORNS. Could have been 1978 because childhood neighbor Greg Boyer ( Baltimore Connection Horn Section trombonist had join THE FUNK MOB.

It is, unequivocally, THE best decade for modern music! THE best! The variety. The adventurousness. The experimentation! The musicianship! The quality of the song-writing! The quality of EVERY ASPECT!!!! The understanding of (and further investigation into-and EXPANSION of!): (Music) "Studio-as-instrument"/Engineering & Recording as artform (etc.!) That, all, began at the tail of the '60s ...but became what it IS now and what it COULD BE: IN (and BECAUSE OF!) the 1970s! The greatest variety, quality, bravery, invention, creative understanding and investigation/experimentation; ALL: took place IN & THROUGHOUT the 1970s decade! It can be represented as: THE BEST! NOT, simply, via "opinion"/"I feel...", but, via actual data and examples! -and, yes: my opinion, also, shares those feelings (but that is entirely SEPARATE!). 🤘🔥🤘

@@itsallokay Well, not entirely,: You weren't going to get 🤔 James Brown .. or Funkadelic or Parliament, fer chrissakes, or non-hit Stevie Wonder, or, say: Isaac Hayes; on station whose "regular playlist" was in the "Zeppelin-Stones-Beatles-Who" camp ...with, y'know: Aerosmith, Bad Co., and the similar. It wasn't (sadly!) a TOTAL cross-pollination! ...HOWEVER: IT *WAS*, in my view, easier to get a wider spectrum, even across "limited berth" stations (let's recall: the RIAA and other business associations had installed "programmers" so that: D.J.s couldn't, just get stoned and play albums "end-to-end" if they felt like it (which you COULD do in the '60s! - when F.M. became "a thing" for the first time!) ...and, yes: there was greater breadth, but let's not be DELUSIONAL!: You were NOT hearing "EVERYTHING" on ANY single station! You needed friends and knowledge (and needed to have record stores with listening booths -which, effectively, got "eliminated" in the late '50s/early '60s ...but came "back into fashion" in the mid-late '90s, with the overwhelming market-dominance of: the CD (and how much the major labels were making the major chains overcharge their consumers for them!😡)-).

I was raised in L.A. during the 60's and 70;'s and YES they did play everything on the radio. During the 70's you would hear the O'jays and afterward a song by Led Zeppelin or even the Beatles. So YOU are mistaken or perhaps in your area this was not the case.@@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra

Another great reaction. Now you have to try George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" and Bootsy Collins "I'd Rather Be With You". Other Funky classics would be "Funkin' for Jamaica" by Tom Browne. The official video of the song is a must. "Skin Tight" by the Ohio Players and D Train with "You're the One for Me" are a few you would enjoy. The Bar-Kay's also have many you both would enjoy. Next Parliament song "The Mothership Connection" or "One Nation Under a Groove". A Funky one for Female Friday would be Toni Smith "(Ooh) I Like the Way It Feels". Toni will get you Movin' and Groovin' with this.

He is the coolest! My sister lived in Dayton and later Cincinnati in the 70's. I went to visit and my brother-in-law while in pursuit of my sister stopped by her house. It also late night, because he came to my bedroom and woke me up. I went to the living room, and standing there in full attire was Bootsy Collins! 😂 Imagine a skinny little kid of 7 in his PJs holding the gold record of "Stretchin" Out" with Bootsy Collins holding him up!😂😂😂 I still laugh about it. I was wearing my Cincinnati Reds PJs! One of my fondest memories! R.I.P. Brother-in-law Michael🙏

My son and I went to see P-Funk a few years ago. The show was going on for about 20 minutes before I realized that George Clinton was already on stage. He had shaved the beard and cut his dreads. Absolutely BEST live show I’ve ever been to! It was an extremely diverse crowd and we all felt like family.

Awhile back, y'all reacted to "Groove Is In The Heart" by Deee-Lite. Bootsy Collins (bass) is in that video. Bootsy and Maceo Parker were originally in James Brown's band. Bootsy is also on the recent Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson.Paak) album. Speaking of James Brown, maybe y'all could check out the 2014 biopic "Get On Up" with Chadwick Boseman.

Well, I grew up listening to Funk, and my love of the guitar brought me to Hard Rock and Metal! The bridge for me was KISS and Casablanca Records. I initially thought KISS were comic book characters because my cousin had their comic books. Then I saw and heard them of television. I was hooked. When I bought their records, I noticed they were on the same label as Parliment. The records had a semblance of each of, but just for different audiences. Then I saw Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, and Van Halen! My union of the 2 genres was complete. Since then I've bought both and tons of others styles of music since I'm a musician.

You guys just opened a crazy can of worms with this group! You MUST listen to any of their songs on the album Maggot Brain. Trust me, you must. If I could recommend some, it would be the title track or “you and your folks, me and my folks.” The latter is one of the most fun and groovy tracks known to man. The former is labeled by many as the greatest guitar work of all time. Do yourselves a favour and listen!

I was so obsessed with Parliament and Funkadelic when this song was popular in 1976. That spaceship at the center of their stage shows back then was also something Electric Light Orchestra had, though ELO's looked different, were a different model or something. The musicians would emerge from the ship at the start of the show. And this song is called "Give Up the Funk," not "Bring the Funk."

George Clinton had two bands going at once. One was Parliament and the other was Funkadelic. At some point the two bands starting creating music that was remarkably similar. This led to the combination of the two projects. The new name was Parliament -Funkadelic, P-Funk, or sometimes the P-Funk All Stars. Weird comedy recommendation for the movie channel is a film Calle PCU. The band makes a huge appearance.

The liner notes of "One Nation Under a Groove" LP, they tell a hliariuos "Funk Clone Wars" story, where Clinton and his funkazoids overthrew Barft Vada and his Dookie Squads to bring funk to the massess of the galaxy, like some Star Wars story. These guys were sooo entertaining onstage and off-So much fun it should've been illegal. And they were loved worldwide, from Germany to Asia to Australia..( Best you tube live footage is from Montreaux, 2002.) I saw 'em in Portland, Ore '05...What a Parrrrty!!

My dear older brother was so proud that he got to a concert with George Clinton and all the Parliament Funkadelic characters on his college campus in 1972. He said about 40 minutes into the show George and the boys stopped pulled out a chessboard and played chess for about 30 minutes as the band played. Of course most of the audience was intoxicated but well behaved. My fav is Mothership Connection which was extremely popular in 1975.

Went to see Parliament in 1999 at SMU’s McFarlin Auditorium. It was my birthday event, and I went with a friend. Had so much fun. One of the best concerts I’ve been to.

Parliament and Funkadelic are the same people under a different name, George had about six bands with the same people in them and different people singing lead, they were all cartoon characters. So now you have to try Funkadelic, and their most popular song is "Not Just Knee Deep" and it's going to blow Jordans mind! 🤯🤯🤯😁

Jay I just wanted to say, love you guys, always crack me up, & yessss Parliament wuz off the chain, I saw them in H-town 1976, the very 1's y'all shown, & oh yes everything you see & so much more, can't even describe, & yes i had my Platform shoes along with my bell bottoms, big collar with our chains hanging on our chest, it wuz definitely a time to remember, we always had a blast at all our concerts, house parties, skating rink etc, I was so lucky to have seen them & so many more groups y'all shown, & yes we use to bump the sounds in our cars with our windows down, sunroof open, & yes we all loved the Falsetto, Jay how you think we got the ladies, i can still hit sum mean notes, keep up the great work, love you guy's 😁🔥💯

Saw P-Funk when they were touring the "Underwater Motor Booty Affair" in the late Seventies. It was a revelation for this suburban Irish Catholic kid. I learned one clear lesson - a crowd could have fun and dance at a concert.

So Parliament Funkadelic was actually 2 separate groups. You had Parliament and you had Funkadelic. Y'all need to check out "Knee Deep" the long version by The Funkadelic. Also, Y'all saw Bootsy Collins in the group Dee-Lite on "Groove is in the heart." The Tom Tom Club also mentioned his name in "Genius of Love." So Y'all know he's a legend. Gotta dig into his solo catalog. Start with "Bootzilla."

That bass line is laid down by Bootsy Collins. Their stage direction is inspired by what KISS was doing for Rock music. The 2 bands were alot closer as friends then most would realize.

Saw them in concert around 2008 in Richmond VA at a small club..They started promptly at 8 and played non stop until midnight..The dance floor was packed the entire night..It was amazing.

Jay and Amber Parliament Funkadelic where the inspiration for Prince music and style. In 1997 Prince inducted them into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Prince mentioned that seeing Parliment in concert inspired him to write his song Eroctic City. Please watch Prince song " I could never take the place of your man"

I was eleven year old white boy in 1970 in a small Tennessee town. The Big Star grocery store carried some music albums and I always enjoyed looking at the covers. One day one album cover especially caught my eye . Never heard of the artist before but bought it anyway. Imagine my surprise when Parliament blew my roof off. I ain’t been the same since .😂

When you saw Parliament Funkadelic and Bootsy's Rubber Band live, you definitely got your money's worth; they put on one heck of a show. I remember going to a show back in 1978, and Bootsy almost fell through the set; he definitely was feeling no pain. But when the band started playing Bootzilla, he absolutely nailed it. You don't play bass for the Godfather of Soul as a teenager without being an incredible musician.

I forget why, but there were legal reasons why Parliament and Funkadelic are the same group, but different names. It might have to do with contracts and who was signed where. Bootsy is Bootsy Collins, the man behind the funky bass!! When Amber read "If you fake the funk, your nose will grow" that refers to a character in their music named 'Sir Nose D'voidoffunk'!! This group has Levels!! LOL!!

At first George had one bands The Parliaments. The Parliaments big hit was in 1967 "I Want To Testify". He later formed Funkadelic and merged the two names.
