It's funny that Bugs Bunny, the character basically synonymous with Warner Bros., isn't even a free character. That's like if Disney charged you money in Speedstorm to play as Mickey.
To be fair, Zaslav has really bad allergies to good ideas, so WB needs to be super careful so he doesn't get hospitalized from allergic reactions again.
@@Cubeytheawesome do you know how much money to have to pour in to get the rights to all the Cartoon Network characters and Nickelodeon characters a lot of freaking money thank you food it’s not easy for PIBBY TO BE A SHOW, BUT I HOPE IT WILL BE AN ACTUAL SHOW AND ALSO I HOPE PIBBY WILL BE IN MULTIverses

You know your game flopped HARD if the negative impact was strong enough to scare another developer, Riot, to the point that they cancel their own platform fighter because they lost faith in the ENTIRE GENRE ITSELF.
Gonna be honest, I think that says just as much about Riot's insecurities if they're really wanting to scrap everything they've done just because one platform fighter isn't doing too hot.
they've like scraped hytale too or something so i'm not surprised, they want to keep doing the same china moba cash grab as always and even the new 2xko Game won't feature the cooler more underrated or unknown characters of league because they're insecure it wont do good if it's not a popular character@@HypeVoiceActing
You all are extremely dumb if you think multiversus isn't doing well. They are making bank. It's a huge success and none of y'all know what you're talking about. There's still 10 to 20 thousand players playing every day across all platforms. Multiversus is doing great.
I have a theory to this so WB spent so much money funding the Suicide Squad game that they forced the developers to make Multiversus as cash grabby as possible. I just blame WB for this. Also I’d rather just pay the $60 full price like Smash than have this garbage.
It doesn't matter how much money they make or lose on any particular project. You can buy WBD stocks. The only considerations at the executive level are those that maximize short-term profits.
To buy 6 characters it’s like $60 in multiversus Every character except some dlc in smash are free through the actually fun and easily accessible campaign
Woah, a live service game made by a well meaning and talented dev studio that is still ultimately owned by the parent compnay of Warner Brothers who gets the last say ended up being total BS? Damn, who saw that coming. In totally unrelated news, Suicide Squad is now free on Amazon Prime.
It sucks because you can tell this dev team wanted to make a banger. They had this opportunity on their hands and they knew it. That beta was what THEY wanted. The full release is what their parent company wanted. Such a shame
I appreciate seeing comments like this that acknowledge that Player First Games *does* want to try and make this a good game but are constantly foiled by WB's meddling. It helps me realize that not everyone's hatred of the game is black-and-white
I always blame the executives. Always. They get paid hundreds of times what the devs do and get the final say on everything, so they’re the ones who should shoulder the responsibility of success and the shame of failure.
@Aquatj999 we live in a capitalist society; WB aren't making free games out of the kindness of their hearts, they want to make money somehow (and rightfully so). While I'm not totally excusing Warner, im sure they played some part but there are tons of freemium games out there that can make the publishers money AND not totally suck. I don't want to do it but I think the blame can be placed at PFGs doorstep pretty easily. Warner has honestly been crazy understanding with these devs; paying them to cook for an entire year while making zero dollars. That has to be a huge hit financially, so again, I'm not too surprised/upset that the monetization is nuts but it's honestly on PFG to make the game good enough that I WANT to spend on it. PFG dropped the ball on this one. Hard.
@@tuxedosfinest57 this comment perfectly sums up how I feel about the game. PFG tried but they blew it and no amount of characters people want will ever make me come back to multiverses
Smash Bros: Unlocks BASE game characters based on how long you play, how much you play, and hidden challenges you've completed. Making the unlock rate totally varied. Multiversus actin' like a public school over any kind of event: _Gimme money gimme money gimme money gimme money._
But, but... Unlocking characters by playing Smash Bros takes too much time! At least In Multiversus, you can pay and get them in no time. And I certainly don't feel scammed about this 🤑
@@ronbusu_editandanimationstuff Also, Multiversus is just broken. Ever since after the beta. And more so with each new character that's as balanced as cheezy poof pizza for breakfast. Smash bans broken premiums from comptetitive tournament, at least bandaging the problem SOMEWHAT effectively. It still ruins friendships over local play however, but eh.
I fully committed 2 whole months to get Agent Smith. I officially got him last night and it was one of the most miserable experiences of my life due to beating ALL twenty bosses by myself. I’m glad I have Smith and he is very fun to play, but I’m never doing that crap again. Rifts are just extremely unfair and unbalanced on higher difficulties
Bruh I feel like if you unlock the difficulty the AI should have a leveled damage output. You can’t make em more aggressive AND hit like a truck… Them 1v2’s had me going Super Saiyan with the inputs 😭😂
@@VGGamess the ai teamates were the absoulte worst part, especially if you were against better characters. Meanwhile the enemy ai is on demon time and just sends you to the shadow realm every time😂
Yeah, he isn't at all correct with pretty much every single statement he makes in the video... In reality, it only takes around 3-4 hours to get a single character and 6-8 hours for a new character. New character - 7000 fighter points. Older characters - 3000 fighter points. You get fighter points from many sources, and you get gleamium at a very generous rate.
If WB owned a racing horse, they'd cut off the front two legs and they'd say "you only need two to run" WB's decisions over the last couple years have been baffling, to say the least. They're so wildly out of touch with so many of these animated projects, and canning all the ones we'd like to see. And don't get me started on the Flash movie either. WB is a burning ship, and Zaslav's holding the matches
@@CoOlKyUbI96didn’t they cancel like a TON of animated series and pull even more from HBOmax? And cancel like a bunch of finished movies like Batgirl and Coyote vs Acme? Pretty sure they suck at that too.
If Multiversus' beta was as bad as the official launch, it would have NEVER won fighting game of the year 😂 Perhaps maybe the biggest heist in gaming history.
If this game’s future truly doesn’t exist, I have two hopes before it ends: 1. Season 2 happens and The Powerpuff Girls get added. 2. If/when it shuts down, we still keep access to Local Play like when the beta shut down. I doubt they’d give us full access to all characters and cosmetics again, but that would be cool.
I for sure want at least powerpuff girls before this game dies. I wish it could at least have Raven and Scooby-doo too. but who knows when they're gonna be added. the slowpace to add content is killing this game.
I don’t understand why y’all are saying the game is dying. It’s literally not lmao. The player count is pretty steady right now and the game is slowly getting better and the content is only going to increase.
I really wish they at least expanded on the original lore with the dog and such before it crashed and burned. For all we know, We could have gotten another subspace emissary at some point.
@@zackanderson7440 they do in the rifts to an extent (Stripe was accidentally summoned which led to him stealing reindog’s gem, which lead to the Joker being summoned and using the gem to bring in Jason and Agent Smith) its just that most of the rift storyline is just the characters fucking around and not really moving the plot along.
The fact that there's only 28 characters in the game makes it even worse. Heck, compare it to Smash Ultimate with 76 total unlockable characters (74 if you count Pokemon Trainer as 1 character), almost *triple* what MvS has in the base game. With DLC and the Miis, that's like 87-89 characters. If you bought the passes and Pirahna Plant(As DLC) that's like a total of around $120 for 87-89 characters.
@@HighLanderPonyYTYou gotta be insane or something bro. I might have agreed or something if it was 50 or 60. It’s $260 for the full roster bro. That over 4 full games just for not even 30 characters. They robbing people atp.
@@strivingsol1816that’s a stupid point, a game made by NINTENDO, another installment in the platformimh fighter genre, and it being a 60 dollar game is unfair to compare to a game that’s been on hiatus for a year, is free, and managed by WB, a non gaming based studio
I really, REALLY wanted to like this game. Smash Bros with Looney Tunes and Superman and Batman and Scooby Doo etc is right up my alley. Setting up gags as Bugs Bunny and catching people off guard when the punchline lands is SUCH a dopamine hit for me. But between all the grinding, the terrible hitboxes and balance issues, the connectivity issues, the unintuitive skill ceiling, and the absurd pricing for skins (Five Bucks for a Matrix filter or a hockey mask!?) I'm really struggling to stick around.
We've pretty much gone from becoming excited to get grinding experiences with MultiVersus and coming out liking it during it's beta period to now completely disowning it like all the hype was for nothing. And it turned out to be true once I was told MultiVersus is no longer worth it anymore.
This!!!! Your post perfectly represents my way of thinking when going into the full release. That I was going to stick with this game for a very, VERY long time, just for it to flop, fumble, and now not even interested in opening the game and look at the shop for 2 minutes. I wish this game was the best! I really mean it!
Nah, I’m liking it a lot. I came from the smash scene and comparatively it’s not a bad online experience at all. Imo the gameplay is as fun as smash and the balance issues are overstated. The network issues are nothing compared to smash.
Microsoft and Sony dodged a bullet not acquiring warner bros games. Putting in effort and being innovative, instead of greedy, is against WB's religious views 😂 Moneyism4life
This is exactly why big corporations shouldn’t have ANY input in how the game works or is made unless, for some reason, they’re directly involved with the development itself. Stay in your lane and let the REAL effort do their thing.
Don't forget Rivals of Aether! Damn good base game with Steam Workshop support that lets you go crazy. Hell, the devs have even done a couple of competitions to allow fans to put their characters into the series on an official basis.
If you spent 60 bucks for smash and got none of the characters and only had Kirby and had to grind for hours then that’s a horrible thing. But since it’s a free game I’m fine with this it’s better than getting characters in brawlhalla but the quests for stuff you have to buy to get like costumes is stupid and should be changed
@@Caketurtle7You start with 8 characters in the first and most recent game. Story mode is the only part which specifically has only Kirby at the beginning (assuming you have no DLC) If you know what you're doing, unlocking all the characters, it may be tedious but only takes a few hours. Every Smash game but the first has multiple "normal" ways to unlock characters as well.
Y’know, if anything, I believe we have to overthrow David Zalslav. He basically shits all over every damn IP he can get his grubby mitts on. Multiversus is what everything wrong with the platform fighter genre. I’d argue Player First Games shouldn’t be the blame for this, because it felt like they actually cared! I’d say we fire Zalslav, release Coyote V.S. ACME, and delay Multiversus to until 2025 to fix up most of the issues, and make it $5 instead of free to play, and REMOVE ANY INSTANCES FOR MICRO TRANSACTIONS.
Multiversus is exactly how I imagine Super Smash Bros would be if it was done by anyone but Nintendo. Grindy, predatory, mediocre at best, and will surely die as soon as the year 1 pass is delivered
7:02 Well being surprised by a new character WOULD be fun... if the devs didn't keep spoiling their own reveals by prematurely adding voice clips referencing the new characters MONTHS before they're added. Right there in the code, ripe for the dataminers' to post all over the place.
@@HypeVoiceActing that's true, but multiversus has about 50 different characters with different levels of complete-ness in the files. At this point, there's no one left who could be surprising because every possible candidate people want are already in the files.
@@superlagbro192 I think the only genuine surprise I saw with the roster was Jason, because I don't recall any evidence of him popping up before his reveal
@HypeVoiceActing I believe he got leaked from metadata from one of the trailers And one of the devs accidentally name dropped samurai jack on a dev stream... I swear it's intentional how pfg leak their own characters 😂
@@superlagbro192 Deadass. we know who's gonna be the next 20+ characters released in the game. there could be a surprise once in a while, but knowing so much of the future is so meh. and the long wait to get them is bad too.
It's kinda insane how much NASB 2 was able to get the biggest glow-up when compared to NASB 1 since I remember when Multiversus was revealed a lot of people were saying how the game was miles time better than NASB 1 because it had voice acting and was free to play meaning people didn't need to spend $50 bucks on the game. But oh how things have turned for Multiversus full launch and NASB 2 glow up. NASB 2 has VA launch, a ton of single-player content, 25 characters you play from the get-go without unlocking them by grinding, and the microtransactions aren't as expensive as Multiversus because you can pay $20 bucks for 25 skins which to some people could sound a bit high but a single Multiversus skin cost around 15-20 bucks so getting 25 skins for 20 bucks is an good price. I was really hoping Multiversus full launch would be the same for NASB 2 but instead, it suffered a fate that is worse than Playstation All-Star which is greed.
@@phantomt516 Nick brawl 2 was just put on game pass and it’s now reached a player peak that made the official community discord unable to make lobby’s due to how many people are playing. It’s literally the better F2P platfighter on the market rn
The math is pretty garbage. Thats if you just buy the base currency itself. You can get the full roster for around 150$ with the starter packs, batman/wonder woman 75% off bundle, and a couple days of casual play. Still probably double what it should cost though.
I was saying this from the very beginning on Reddit (for what that's worth). These games make money on skins and characters are needed to sell skins, make them hard to get, you hamper your skin sales! Instead, they try to sell people bundles with the character included with a skin, and some extras, but what if they don't like the character? Free rotation is the right direction, but there should be some fighters that are cheaper on average instead of everyone being 3000 FC, the easier (and more popular ones) like Batman and Finn: main characters, easier to play, lots of skin sales because they're mad popular iconic, just makes sense and cents. Instead, they got this bizarro strategy of hostile progression that hinders gameplay! Which is also going to hurt its competitive scene!
Warner Bros just making us spend 260 bucks for a total of 26 characters. Guy, Smash Ultimate has 89 characters, does that mean I should have spent 890 dollars on it?
They saw unlocking characters by playing the game in world of light in SSBU and said “what if we make it take hundreds of hours to unlock the BASE ROSTER, and not have it even be fun”
As someone who has over 60 hours clocked in and only started playing after the relaunch, I only managed to get half the roster unlocked and some characters I had to play because I needed to get a certain mission done so I can make progress. The game wants you to play at its pace or you'll be behind. Hell even as of writing this there are challenges that require you to spend money to get a free skin with the Matrix stuff which is just fuckin absurd. Even the single player mode is an unfair, unbalanced mess with all the gem leveling you need to do, and as someone who did manage to get Smith early it came at the cost of a broken mouse. Pretty much if this games monetization doesn't chill the hell out, the games gonna die before the second season is even over.
It sucks to say, but NASB 2 is still not close to being as popular as MVS. Which is baffling because the series has only gotten better while MVS has only done the complete opposite. Like, you dunderheads! There’s a good platform fighter right here, ready for a community to blossom and bloom! “…im going back to smash.” NOOOOOOO! At least we got the base roster unlocked at $50, so….
I literally had nothing to do in the game after the first few days 😅 You can only play against the same 3 characters online over and over until you become bored
Yeah, I don't even play League and I still think that's a dumb name. Project L sounds really nice on the tongue, while 2XKO just sounds like a cluttered mess.
With this game, it costs $15 dollars to unlock Joker, and that’s it. With Smash Bros, that gets you 2 DlC characters, each coming with their alternate colors, their stage, a playlist of music (with one going up to 50 songs), and their own little challenge mode with Spirit battle. Plus their own Classic Mode run.
everybody who is disillusioned with Multiversus needs to go play NASB 2 instead. far superior game and well worth the frequently discounted 20 dollar price tag. needs the players too, because it's the most slept on game in recent memory. first big name smash clone to actually hold a candle to the original
Not really. NASB, Jump Stars, Rivals of Aether, Samurai Gunn and Lethal League all have a sequel on the market or close to market. I'd still say I like a number of games which did well (or not so well) without a sequel like Slap City or Splash Blast Panic. Smash is just way ahead of the competition and Multiversus chose a business model which isn't sustainable if they don't get whales.
The fact they let us pay money during the beta and then proceeded to shut it down without telling us BEFORE we spent money was already bad enough. Not to mention the constant character reworks which tended to be much more than you’d normally do during a PUBLIC beta. Then they spent over a YEAR working on the game with almost 0% transparency or news whatsoever besides “it’s coming”, proceeded to do almost no advertising and THEN it relaunched in a W O R S E state!?!? Yeah, no. MultiVersus is a prime example of how NOT to make a game. This has been horrible, I have lost all trust in them and all desire to actually play the game.
To add some more context: I LOVED the game when it first launched. So much so that I decided to buy the Premium Founders Pack. I had a blast playing with friends and family online and offline and had a great time with the random matchup online play as well. It wasn’t perfect though, and it soon became clear that the team really didn’t know what to do going forward.
I think the core game is fun, but there are still some balancing issues (glares at bugs bunny being lore accurately over powered) and the BP XP grind should be reduced, but over all the game is handing out a ton of free stuff, it just takes a good bit to work towards it. Some of the event "skins" are really stupid though and genuinely just there to pad things out. Rifts are fun, but really need some difficulty tweaks.
I totally agree, the game needs work but it’s still really fun. People blatantly talk about the downs without the ups, the game is fairly new and they need some time to fix all the issues.
@@TheThirdKingIIIthe issue is that this game is not new. They had a year to work on it after already receiving feedback on it for a years worth of time. People are not patient enough to go through essentially two betas because the relaunch of this game was definitely not the full product. They killed the game it's gg
it's really not tho. i saved up most of my fighter currency after the official launch, and i still need 12 more characters. doing dailys almost everyday too.....
I think the worst part for my end is that I didn't even get to SEE what happens. I can't even play the game because it goes through the "Account Syncing" and as soon as it happens, I'm kicked out before I'm even in the servers. I tried EVERYTHING and it STILL won't let me in, and I asked the Discord, I even emailed the devs and left feedback on their site, absolutely NO ONE would help besides one or two random Discord users. So I can't even TRY to play the game. It's messed up.
Reminder that this and the unfinished Allstars Brawl were considered "Smash Killers" by Nintendo Haters. I'd say it was Karma, but WB really is a peice of trash right now. Sucks too, I actually wanted this game to be good. NASB2 was good though.
Isn't it just sad I played this game to play as Finn, Jake, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, and a few other characters I would play in, only for me to see the reality this game was fucked right from the beginning and that grinding through this game during its beta era was all for nothing? 2022: Can't wait to play! :D 2024: You suck now, MultiVersus! I'm going back to SSBU. Fuck you!
The fact that they had to flat out REMOVE a character due to a bug that can easily be fixed is insane. Like, could you imagine if any other fighting game did this? People would be rioting in the streets.
It's not as simple as "fixing a bug" because they need to make sure the bug is fixed on every console, AND that said consoles all receive the update at the same time (and those usually need to go through an approval process). They don't remove characters unless they are absolutely broken; Iron Giant had a bunch of easy infinites and Jason had a bug that glued you to his model in a stunned state unable to do anything as he just kept damaging you. Obviously people bitched about these bugs so the quickest server side solution they could do about it was to temporarily remove them and work on a hotfix as soon as possible. And to their credit, that's what they did: Jason was only gone for about 3 days before he came back, and they even compensated when they removed him by replacing the rifts requiring him with a different character so you weren't completely fucked. I don't really like how the video presents this as it almost comes across as disingenuous by implying that he was permanently removed or was missing for an extended period of time when it was barely even half a week, and he's been back for ages. You could argue "these bugs shouldn't exist to begin with" but again, this is a live service game that needs to run and be cross compatible on multiple platforms, being developed by a small team of people who are being funded by WB.
Whatever hope I had for Multiversus (which wasn't much because WB has lost the plot for years on the business side of things and a free-to-play fighter was a golden opportunity to them to nickel and dime) evaporated when they pulled the game for two years. You just don't *DO* that if you're a live service, whose success *demands* keeping people's attention long-term. It's genuinely impressive how badly WB fumbled this.
And the roster picks are just abysmal. Where is The PPG, KO, Black Hat, Mordecai, Gumball, Gwimbly, Walter White, Ben 10, Master Shake, Uncle Grandpa, and Mandy?
The amount of times the clip with the Friday the 13th Black Adam skin is shown is the same as the number of live service battle pass integrated games that die each week
If I can try to defend the "less complete than the beta" complaints, Player First Games went on record saying one of the biggest decisions they made after the beta was taken down was to completely rebuild the game from scratch to accomidate a more updated rollback netcode. And the combination of essentially remaking the entire game plus Warner Bros pushing them to release the game early is the biggest reason why a lot of features from the beta didn't return at first. Also in the interest of fairness regarding characters, you *can* test out characters in the training mode before you decide on if you want to buy them or not. And the game does contain a weekly rotation of four characters to play for free outside of Shaggy. You nailed basically every other problem on the head though. And it sucks because I can definitely see some passion poured into the game buried deep underneath all the predatory decisions smothering it. And to give PFG credit, they have tried their best to listen to fan feedback (which is more than what you can say about a lot of game studios), but WB really fumbled hard in trying to get this game off the ground.
Never, EVER, give Warner Bros. the benefit of the doubt. They're noticeably more corrupt in the gaming space than Activision or Blizzard. Which is a remarkable feat in and of itself.
oh we are so back Ok but for my rant on Multiversus, It was INCREDIBLY disgusting how after winning 2 or 3 awards, Multiversus slinked away for about a year and said 'oh this was a beta' and reopened in 2024 expecting the game awards to just welcome them back with open arms as if they can cheat their way as best fighting game again. NO. And how did it even get an award?? It was janky and laggy as hell for me like moves had hella lag-time, maybe it was my old PC? i don't know. There's a reason now why I realize you should only let video games have fighting game crossovers like MVC or Smash bros, Trying to do it with movie or TV show characters will fail one way or another unless the company behind it knows what it's doing and either picks up the slack or monetizes their free game well. NASB and Multiversus are fun until you start scraping at the skin. You shouldn't be turned down by a game just at the SKIN ALONE. A shame my main Jason isn't around anymore but hey, I'm not really playing it all that much so it doesn't matter.
The worst part about all this is I put a decent chunk of change into the "Beta" because I enjoy it. I still have not received any of my legacy purchases or content to this day :/
As someone who played the Beta, but not to it's end, enjoys the new found slower pace of the game, and kind of enjoys the challenge of squeezing as much free stuff as I can out of a f2p game, I've been enjoying my time with the game. Though I am pretty disappointed in its unfortunate lack of polish. I'm more inclined to agree with MockRock on this one. The game could definitely be on better ground, and really should have been at launch, but there's enough of a good base here that I'm willing to stick it out as things get better. I just hope I don't end up alone on that...
Tried nasb2 on a free weekend, got turned off by the weird movement and overall presentation in about 30 mins. Still playing MVS. Bottom line, both have their fans.
Problem with multiversus is that it’s a live service game. And if you have a certain character you like that’s locked behind you have to either heavily grind for it or pay for it. I haven’t played NASB2 yet. But I’m hoping in the 3rd game the roster does not get cut.
