Hey y'all! Here's something a little different. In this video, I show you how to do simple services to a 2009 Triumph 675 Street Triple R.
In the first half of the video, I demonstrate an engine oil and filter change.
In the second half, I show a coolant flush.
Enjoy!

Love watching every video beautiful. Life changing motivation thanks. Shot I need all the motivation in my life I can lately. Feeling like I'm dieing trying to STRUGGLE to live. Almost 10 months ago now a rode semi truck decided to remodeled my Yukon and I don't think it will buff out. I'm starting to be able to get round and help my wife take care of my 2 kids , my 2 big dog. I'm praying it heals soon so I reunite my with a job. Love watching your motivation thanks.

I’ve always babied my bike and been worried to do the wrong thing (or use the wrong part) and damage it somehow, which has led to a lot of expensive trips to the dealership to be sure it’s done right. Now that my bike is almost 10 years old, I’m starting to do my own work and feeling more confident about it, thanks to your videos!

Great video Faye! I would love it if our cars had better access to what we are trying to get to in the engine compartment. In one of your previous videos you mentioned developing muscle memory. I changed the power steering fluid in my Honda this week, and my hands, fingers, and by extension the tools I was using are no longer connected to my brain! It was much harder than it would have been a couple of years ago. I'm a chemist and worked in a wet lab most of my career. My hands and fingers were part of my tool set and did what I wanted done and without me thinking about it. Now that I've been disabled and retired for 18 months, I just got to where I can start working on my own cars to have something I enjoy to do. I am so surprised that I lost that connection so quickly. I've also lost a lot of hand and finger strength. I'm going to keep working on my car and I think the control over my hands I used to have will return, at least I hope so.

Um I don't know if I saw that chart correctly but I'm pretty sure 500 is for the first and maybe second oil change (for engine break in). After that on all the bikes I've owned it is usually 2k some manuals say more.

Thanks for the video. However, only the first break in oil change is done at 500 miles. The next is at 6,000. The interval, after that, is every 6,000 miles. I change the oil in my bike every year while winterizing it. After watching this I think it would be good idea to change the coolant this year. I’m sure it is overdue. Thanks again.

I drain my coolant, then fill with coolant, drive it around for 2 days and then drain and refill again. I dont use plain water because I am worried I wont get all the water out on the 2nd drain and my coolant mixture will be below 50%. I have to work on my slanted driveway and I cant really get at the engine block coolant drain plug, so I actually cant drain it all out. I try to do my best given circumstances.

The owners manual is a bit obtuse. The 500 mile oil change is for the break-in service. The oil change interval after that is every 6000 miles. Most motorcycles require a break-in service between 500-1000 miles that includes an oil change and checking various fasteners and such. The intervals listed after the break-in are for the standard service intervals of the bike. A paint pan works well for low slung bikes for catching the oil. I also like to pour new oil into the filter and soak the filter material before putting it on. This is so that the bike doesn't have to wait as long to build oil pressure while the new oil fills up the new filter. It reduces the time the engine is running dry essentially.

You read that maintenance manual incorrectly, motorcycle manuals are a bit different but they make sense once you figure it out. The mileage listed across the top 500 6000, 12000 Those are the mileages that you change the oil at, not the intervals. 500 is for break in mileage, much like a new car. Other than that, everything else is fine.

You silly goose! You follow the dots linearly. So you change the oil @ 500 (break in), 6,000 - 12,000 - 18,000. Only other thing would be flushing out the reservoir too. But everything else was spot on!

Nice video, but I Have only two questions: 1) how we have to set the level inside the expansion tank under the seat? 2) referring to the other screw on the right side of the radiator do you have any suggestion in order to avoid air bubbles in the cooling system?
@FayeHadley
@FayeHadley 3 года назад
Yes, sorry for not addressing this I was in a rush!! I heat cycle the engine several times before topping off the expansion tank (reservoir) and that will also work out air bubbles. The water pump will circulate coolant through the system and eventually work out all the air bubbles. I like to get it up to operating temp, run it for a few minutes at partial throttle, then let it cool down fully, top it off, and then you're good!

I still have my first street bike, a 72 Triumph Tiger. Many years ago a friend was out of work and I let him clean the carbs and when he did he disconnected the battery and then hooked it up backwards. (Its a positive ground) he then kept replacing the fuse as it blew and added bigger ones. I have no idea what he cooked in the electrical system but she's dead.
@poellot
@poellot 4 года назад
On a 1972 its a pretty simple electrical system. Check the wire from the battery negative to the ignition switch. Check the switch. Check the wire to the ignition coils, check the coils, check the points. On the positive side of the battery check the fuse holder and wires and the ground.

Cool, you work on motorcicles too. Q, do you have to use oil for motorcicles or can you just use car oil as long as its the same viscosity?
@mushroomcloud1
@mushroomcloud1 4 года назад
It is best to use motorcycle specific oil. Many motorcycles, like the Triumph in the video have unit transmissions and a wet clutch. What this means is the oil also lubricates the transmission and the clutch is in the oil. This is hard on oil as transmission gears shear the oil and you get clutch wear particles in the oil as well. In addition, many car oils are designed as much for gas mileage as protection. Something that isn't done with bikes. You also have some motorcycles that are air cooled (like most Harley's) and this puts greater emphasis on an oils ability to resist thermal degradation. Car oils do not face this. Lastly, motorcycles make far higher power for a given engine size than cars and have far higher redline engine speeds. Cars typically redline at 7000 rpms or less. Some motorcycle engines spin to 15000 rpms. So the oil is in a much more demanding work environment. So please do your bike a favor and use an oil type approved by the bike's manufacturer.
@FayeHadley
@FayeHadley 4 года назад
I don't work on motorcycles usually !! Toyotas are really all that I do. This one was an exception! And I think it is best to use motorcycle oil. Considering the fact that it is for the gearbox and engine, it must have a specific formula. I don't know enough about it to say for sure, but that's what I would do!
@mushroomcloud1
