FYI this coming from an instructor that teaches engines....you may want to rethink your oil choice. What you were saying about the cam & lifter wear in an engine is correct, but your engine utilizes roller lifters which aren’t as critical with needing the higher amount of zinc/phosphorus as a older style flat tappet camshaft. If you do prefer the higher zinc rating, there’s nothing wrong with the Mobil 1 High Mileage oil...it has a rating of 1000-1100 ppm zinc/ phosphorus which is plenty. The oil that you’re using has a rating of 1200-1300, which isn’t that much more. The other drawback to using what your showing is that it’s a mineral based oil and not a full synthetic oil, which won’t stand up to the higher heat and demand that you’re wanting from your engine. Also, with a full synthetic oil like Mobil 1 along with a good filter like a Wix XP, you can extend your oil drain intervals..it also protects your engine better...take my word for it, been doing it that way for over 20 years now.

A good oil for you would be Amsoil Signature Series 10w30. Or any of the premium synthetics. For your high temps, use 10w30 instead of 5w30. VR1 is a race oil, not meant for street. Race oils are meant for very frequent changes... they have very little if any detergents. Street cars need detergents to prevent sludge build up.

Also it helps if you take your finger and smear oil on your filter gasket. It makes it much easier to take off the next time. And WIX filters are the best for any high performance engine. Great video Kayla.

Totally agree with you, even with a cam I would only use a full synthetic oil, and as you said these newer engines have roller lifters, all that zinc is not needed.

I have seen so many people struggle with getting a jack under their car because it's lowered. Driving up on two by fours and other random blocks of wood they have laying around and usually drive straight over them, they spit out from a heavy foot for the Honda front wheel drive guys or they just push it along never driving on top of the block. About 80% of them also own a set of race ramps but never had the idea to do what you did in this video. Brilliant! First time seeing your channel, whoever is responsible for your wheels deserve a gold star! Design and the color and the fitment are spot on!! It's super nice with the carbon and the wing, simple but looks clean as hell! Literally, you could eat off of the bottom of your car! LoL very nice

Nice magnetic drain plug. Another trick I like to use is to stick a few neodymium magnets to the outside of the oil filter to catch more gunk. You can just move them to the new oil filter upon the next oil change and keep using them.

That's what I do on the transmission pan but make sure there far enough to the outside away from where the filter picks up

Kayla, try surgical type rubber gloves on that filter replacement. It’s so much easier than scrubbing used engine oil out of those cuticles.

I would use a 6 point socket to prevent rounding the drain plug. Zinc is nonferrous so anything sticking to that magnet is coming from somewhere else. Zinc is being used in your oil as a lubricant.

Great video. One thing i do is, i use an oil drain container that catches and holds the oil from 2/3 oil changes and then just take the container to Autozone and recycle it. That way you don’t have to stand there and try to fill 8 bottles up and try not to get the oil all over the place. It’s much easier. 👍🏻

tip - use a solo cup when doing the oil filter, all he oil goes in the cup and mess free for the most part. Dont know the size of the filter on those cars but works like a charm if it fits over the filter while unscrewing it

You do a great job with the videos and doing work on your car. You can use a nice big piece of cardboard to put under your car. It makes it more comfortable to crawl under and lay on your back. And if you spill any oil or it splashes it won’t mess up your driveway. And your car looks and sounds great. Keep having fun. 👍🏻

@@KaylaRundle I also use shipping cardboard box. It's softer than concrete floor, cleaner, and I can easily wiggle in and out while under my car. When done, I just tuck it away in the garage for later re-use.

Hey girl u are Correct about the oil cap needing to come off before draining the oil..but I also take my dip stick that U check your engine oil levels with .. out At that time as whell & clean it off 4 the new oil & usually don't even put the dipstick back until 2 Quarts in ..

Pro tip after changing the oil fire the engine for about 10 - 20 seconds and recheck it. Even if you put the manufacturer recommended amount in its still a good idea to recheck

Just an FYI, zinc is a non-ferrous metal, so it is not zinc that is stuck to your drain plug. It is some other metal wearing in the engine. Also, at 9:24 it looks like you are using a torque wrench to loosen your drain plug. Never use a torque wrench to loosen anything if you ever want to trust it to have an accurate reading again.

When pouring oil, instead of sideways, pour it with the cap on top, not bottom. The canister was designed to stop the bubble or surge, gurgling! Great job.

Also, there's a product called I think it's liquid gloves or something like that that'll help keep the grunge off your hands with "gloves". If you change your own oil that often you may look into one of the drive over quick jack systems. A little spendy(like $1600) but so easy, locks into place and would probably help with the anxiety which is priceless

You could add or should know that the wiping down and inspection of the oil filter gasket interface before putting the filter on is a really good idea. The most common way to destroy your engine is to not check for any leftover gasket or other material, you will have a leak and it might not show right away even. I have seen two of my buddies engines destroyed this way. What is worse, is both of them took them in and paid for the oil change service rather than DIY.

I made some ramps out of 2x10s. It lifts the car 4.5 inches and works quite well. That would prevent having to use the jack.

I used to have a cammed 04 GTO, now i have a 14 CTSV. I have the bigger race ramps which are super nice. You dont even need a jack or stands with those for an oil change. Just drive up on there and you are good to go.

Also prime your oil pump by holding your foot on that gas and clutch while starting the car for a few seconds. It will prime everything. I do it after I haven't driven my vette for a few days.

My dad was rushing doing an oil change on his cherokee one time and the gasket stuck to the pan. He blew the engine because the 2 gaskets built up so much pressure the filter popped. Good point 👍

you should always use great oil from the best oil stocks like redline or royal purple or the best amsoil. they use additives that quite down the lifters and other parts in the engine.

Great job if you ever get a chance one day somebody with you before you put the oil filter on and you feel the engine up with the fresh oil give it a quick fire up and shut it off you’ll see the old the leftover dirty oil come out where the oil filter is if you put a new oil filter on without oil in it the first dirty oil from when you start the engine go straight into your new filter just to something I learned over the years to you’re very inspiring and you’re very passionate about your car and it’s in my favourite colour white and the Camaro looks great and you look great too Don

I moved from a house with a 2 post lift in the garage to a house with a low ceiling in the garage. I spent $1,200 on Quick Jacks and I use them every weekend. I can barely get a jack under my V or BMW but the quick jacks are awesome. In case the EPA is watching of course my car has cats! LOL

Her oil choice is just fine. Dont have to high dollar synthetic oil in anything if you change your oil frequently. synthetic is only made to go long intervals. plenty of tests online that goes over this whole delimma.
