I use oil on my fans every year. If you use the fan in a room with dust, you might want to oil them more frequently. The oil I use is left over new 5w-30 motor oil, works great. No, I don't oil the copper windings.

Typically, these tuna cylinder motors come with plenty of lubrication from the factory, with minimal exceptions. Same goes with the tuna square motors. Therefore adding zoom spout will cause problems as you probably added more than 6 drops on the front/rear bearings. AFAIK there will not be a problem with the windings coming into contact with zoom spout.

Jordan is the one who advocates for motor lubrication but the newer motors don’t come with much oil if any at all. The older ‘huddled winding’ psc motors, like this one in the video seem to come with good lubrication but some of the new ones i’ve found to be bone dry. I made sure to not put too much oil in the bearings to prevent this but idk i guess it still was too much

@@Fanscarsetc It varies across each manufacturer of the motor. Take for example Cophaco's tuna cylinder motors had plenty of oil. But Hungder (HV) had a little less, and Well-Champion (WC/WG) had little to none at all.

@@sccpsteve Lmao i’ve never heard of those crazy names besides the ‘HV’ motors. I do agree tho some of the brands have more oil than others but the cophaco motors i’ve used before also had no oil in them. The motor in the video appears to have no brand on it besides “PM” on the capacitor so I can’t really trace what manufacture but i do have a “glory” variant of the same motor and it had plenty of oil in it despite being over 10 years old.

@@Fanscarsetc I found a glory motor that had rusted out the steel bearings. But with a bit of convincing it freed right up. I tried pulling the shaft out of the bearing and the whole bearing popped out of course so I replaced it with one from a HV motor. It still runs in my bathroom 24/7. I was wrong about the Cophaco. I thought I had saw oil in it but that was my imagination. I was thinking about the old promotor from my older 3733

@@sccpsteve A rusted out bearing is crazy. Eli lasko had the same issue on his channel but it was with the older 1.1 amp recalled motor but that fan was abused by a smoker. One motor i’ve struggled to find is one of those “supreme” motors that exist in the lasko/galaxy fans from like 2009-2014. I did find one from a 2006-07 3733 but it appears to be a crappy first iteration of it. The second versions seem to be much better, and oddly enough that motor still exists today in the ‘USA’ limited edition cool colors box fans.
