What an Amazing and informative video. I would like to hear your views on moisturiser vs sunscreen. Also how does one deal with the excessive sweating that one gets from using a sunscreen. I live in hot and humid/ hot and arid west africa and applying sunscreen does make us sweat more. This and the popular belief that black don't crack is a huge deterrent to the use of sunscreens in my area
thank you for this video, however, i’m confused if i can apply the information you gave in this video to my oil-based serum? is it still counted as an oil?
though I don't understand why she lists TO NMF +HA as an moisturizer/occlusive. Looking at how she lists this product I should be using this after my oils, but I don't see how this is in any kind occlusive. I'm kinda confused
Yes pleaseeeee and hearing multiple skincare gurus state the benefits of sunscreen combined with vitamin c, should i apply the sunscreen right after vitamin c due to that statement? I love KraveBeauty's Beet Shield "sunscreen" (ingredient is recognized in south Korea as spf, but not (yet) in the USA).
Yes, PLEASE do a video on moisturizers & sunscreen. Also, if I have a moisturizing cream with SPF 20 + sunscreen SPF 50 + foundation SPF 15 - should I do ALL of them? How long to wait between steps? Is it too many products with SPF? If i layer all those products with SPF are all of them actually working?
Hi I just saw your first video now. Nice to meet you Cassandra🌹 Yes please, make a video on sunscreens. Do you have a video on serums? Do you have a video on the many types of retinols and what works best and also how to use Tretinoin 0.5 mg/g. cream. Thank you 🌹
in case she doesn't see this: moisturisers (and moisturising creams) will not give you the SPF 20 they advertise. for a regular human face (wow) you will need 1,2g of pure SPF lotion. Since you definitely do not apply that much moisturiser, your moisturiser will most likely have an SPF of about 5. Same goes your foundation, unless you cake a literal tablespoon full of foundation on your face. So the answer is: yes, use all, just ignore the SPF in anything that isn't specifically sunscreen, it won't give you the SPF it says on the front if you apply a normal / useful amount. Yes, all of them will work together, the only reason they might not work together is if one is very oily and the others aren't, but that you would notice immediately because they wouldn't really go on top of each other smoothly and will roll into tiny balls on your skin. I'm sure you've had it happen before with, for example, a foundation that hated the primer or moisturiser you were using. If that is the case you just need products with similar ingredients that will go smoothly on top of each other and you will honestly know when they don't.
@@mariamagnusdottir2749 Yes she doesn. She has a whole playlis ton the Ordinary and she has lots of videos on serums/retinols. Get ready to get hoked on The Ordinary (it happens to us all when we find Cassandra first!!)
It would be SO interesting if you do a video on which ingredients to look for in order to distinguish a hydrating product and a moisturizing product, in order to better distinguish them! Like now, I have a cream, but I'm not sure if it is a hydritating or moisturizing 🤔
mind blown! I've always been putting oils at the end of my skincare routine, and never quite felt that nourished- i have dry, sensitive skin. It all makes sense now! Thank you
Hydrators draw water to the skin using humectants: the most common are glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Moisturizing ingredients (oils and butters) nourish and smoothen the top layer of the skin and can prevent water loss. For example, hyaluronic acid serums/toners are hydrators, pure oils are moisturizing, and most moisturizers/creams do both things.
Moisturising comprises of 3 things, hydration, emollient, occlusives. Humectants like Glycerin are good hydrator and that draws water from the deeper layers of the skin and some water from the outside to the skin. Emollients like oils, just soften the top layer of skin but bost aren't actually good moisturisers on their own. Occlusive like petrolatum, are like a seal, to prevent trans epidermal water loss. This will make sure that the hydrator won't evoporate away. Most good moisturising creams will have these 3 components, but many like to use an extra hydrating serum too. You can't just use a hydrating serum as you need occlusives to keep the hydration on your skin so that's why you need to use a moisturiser afterwards
@@mushy470 Afffff why can't they just keep it simple and call it what it is a hydrator or moisturizer??? I have Acne Rosacea and I'm looking for a moisturizer for during the day to use under sunscreen and foundation. During the day I don't like a heavy moisturizer because I am putting foundation over it. If I use the Glow which if I'm correct is a hydrator (which would also need a moisturizer on top to keep the moisture in correct?) can I add my SPF and then foundation after and that will be good enough? Would the SPF work as a moisturizer (occlusive) on this routine and keep the hydration in? For the night time I"m thinking of purchasing the SkinFixx Cassandra mentions on her video because my skin is dry at this moment and I feel I need a good product to work overnight on my skin. I also have to mention after watching her videos I have a collection of TO coming to my house lol ... I bought the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA which at this point I have no idea is it a hydrator or a moisturizer!!!! According to TO it is a hydrator. Ingredients on these items are like chinese to me :-) Thank you for your help Zee
Zee DeAlmeida anything that’s primarily water based like a toner or serum will typically contain humectants and is considered a hydrator. This can also include very light gels and watery lotions. Where anything thicker like a cream that contains occlusive ingredients high up like thicker oils/esters, certain fatty acids/alcohols, etc will be a moisturizer designed to lock in moisture.
Zee DeAlmeida hii, so in my opinion you don’t have to use a thick occlusive moisturizer in the morning ( Most of the transepidermal waterloss happens at night) So I’d recommend you to use something lighter and hydrating in the morning and a heavier cream in the evening in order to prevent transepidermal waterloss (for example the cerave moisturizing cream). Also reading ingredients can be overwhelming at the beginning, but you can look everything up in the paula’s choice dictionnary just to see what purpose each ingredient fulfills... I hope this helped also I’m by no means a professional, so it’s always good to get second opinions :)
My skin is really dry and tends to flake off, so I found that putting pure coldpressed rosehip oil after a hydrating/exfoliating serum and than slapping my thiccccc moisturiser works the best for me.
Try using hyaluronic acid and spritz water before and after that then water based cream or lotion them the oil, take it from a sever eczema effected person lol
I found you 2 weeks ago and have been obsessed! I ordered a ton of products from the ordinary that will be here tomorrow and cannot wait to slowly introduce them into my routine! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
Did you do the same as me after watching Cassandra's channel? I ordered half of their itinerary and didn't need a lot of it!!! They're great if you contact them and tell them what you want to target. They come back with a whole routine worked out for you and they won't encourage you to buy something you don't need - in fact they have told customers that some of their selections aren't of any use to them and that they shouldn't buy them. I love The Ordinary. Started my regime in February with them and in three months my skin has literally been transformed. I look a few years younger than I did in February. I hope you have as much success as I am having.
@@bluecurlygirl I was on their website for a long time lol! I also watched all of Miss Cassandra's videos and tried to put together my own bundle. And it came today!!!! I am so happy that it's working for you I hope that it does the same for me!
Unsure if you will see this but I'm just getting back into skin care and your channel and, girl, when you said "turn and learn" I was like wow we got an entrepreneur over here with slogans and everything!!! You go glen coco!!!! You are so professional but also personable it's amazing. Keep it up, love you
Also, I personally found it much better to mix my oils into my moisturizer. I use a thicker, more emollient moisturizer and I've found that mixing a few drops of my morning vitamin c oil or evening cbd oil makes whichever oil I use more effective. I'm not sure if there's any science to it though lol Edit: my skin is also VERY dry, and I live in a dry climate
omg I was tired of all the videos saying oils last and the store websites say oils before. Thanks for the sharing the information. Now I know my order. :)
I say to combine your daily moisturizer with a few drops of oil and apply them together. Personally I pat on the oil then cover it with a layer of moisturizer because the moisturizer increases absorbtion of the oil. Even better if you do this on damp skin. The logic is that the oil is thinner and liquid while the cream is thick. If the thick cream is blocking the oil won't absorb. To increase absorbtion you may need to massage the oil a bit or rub it in with a Jade roller.
Omg you are reading my mind I was wondering the same question, and I use the exact same products ! Really informative, yess for the sunscreen/moisturizer video
Yes!! Please talk about sunscreen and moisturizer order!!! Or maybe even just a full video of which products to apply and in what order (minimal products, but like the essentials - moisturizer, face oil, sunscreen, primer 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻)
I want to learn everything possible about sunscreen. When to apply it, how to find a good one, and what to do about protecting the skin around the eyes without getting product in the eyes.
I think it’s also worth pointing out that oils aren’t all the same. Some are lighter and emollient only while others are also occlusive. So it’s not just what moisturizer you use but also what oil you use.
Go-To is an Australian skincare company that has an oil as a pre-moisturiser serum thats great for all skin types. I would love to watch you review the brand! xx
I am working on my skin and your uploads are clicked so fast I brought the ordinary products for my acne and omg my skin never look so clear and feel so healthy, it's just ground breaking I am astonished
Exactly... This is what I have done for years.. Im in my 40s.. And people that come on YT talking as if one size fits all... 🤦♀️ Do what works for you... Thanks for the clarification..
I've heard, from a reputable source, that you should put oils on wet skin...there was an explanation, but I don't want to paraphrase it. Can you tell me if there's any sense in this or it's totally useless and pointless. Great video...as always! Thank you for always explaining everything in a way that everyone can understand it. And for the end: love from Croatia 😘
Hey! I’m not a professional, I like applying my skincare on damp skin, including oils. I’m pretty sure that when applying things on damp/wet skin, the products absorb a lot faster into the skin. Since oils typically take longer to sink in due the the size of oil molecules, this helps for it to sink in faster and also not feel as greasy as usual.
Having been watching your channel for yEARSS since i have PCOS and terrible hormonal acne, i was on roaccutane the whole lot, its so amazing to see how far youve came!! 😭😭Sending luv from Ireland!
Yes please, a video on moisturizer vs sunscreen would be amazing. Also if it's worth getting moisturizer with the sunscreen in it, if it does anything at all or if I should always have one of each would be very interesting for me as I struggle with sunscreen! Love ya! Xx
Yeah ever since I saw a video where someone suggested that moisturizers might be blocking the abilities of organic UV filters I’ve been freaking out, so I’d love a moisturizer and sunscreen video!
I would definitely love to see a video on sunscreens/moisturizers. This was super helpful. I’ve read and watched so many people saying very different things on this subject. You broke it down wonderfully. Thanks, chickadee🍃🌸
A video about moisturisers and sunscreen is a must !! Pretty pretty please make one !! Also please make one video with the exact order of a skin care routine for combination skin !!
So as an Esthetician who is recommending product, could you do a video on who should use Oil Cleansers and why, and who should use Water based cleansers and why? I have a lot of anti-aging clients and oily/combination clients. I want a good way to explain why they need one or the other from my retail, to make a better sale and give the client that knowledge. Or if there's a video already on that I would love to watch it!
Yaaas, a video about sunscreen and moisturizer. I only use a very lightweight SPF50 sunscreen and don‘t know if I should apply more products and how I should reapply it during the day on oily skin.
Yes, please do a video on moisturizers and sunscreen! Or better yet, oils and sunscreen! I only use oils to moisturize and I'm confused about sunscreen as I've been told using additional oils will change the spf effectiveness. So I'm currently using Josie Maran Protect & Perfect for my daily sunscreen. But when I work festivals, I need a more robust sunscreen.
Sunscreen or moisturizer first too. That's another question I always have thought about. Personally, I am of the view that a product that incorporates both sunscreen (SPF 15-30/PA++) should solve these problems, but I cannot think of sleeping with a two-in-one product on my face during the night.
Nooooo! Take it from a previous formulator who has recently changed industries; please do NOT use products that include sunscreen INSTEAD of actual sunscreen. Those products are "comedogenic" which means they are cosmetics that do not have to go through the rigurous testing standards that broad spectrum (UVA & UVB) sunscreen has to go to, to prove effective! During the day, moisturizer should always go first. The last step has to be sunscreen because neither Zinc Oxide nor Titanium Dioxide can be absorved by the skin; so as long as you're wearing them, they block the sun from going in.
Yes please sunscreen video would be helpful. Even sunscreen for people of color, some believe sunscreen isn't needed. Can you also touch on when in our makeup routine we should be applying sunscreen. Thank you! ☺️
Thank you for your videos! 💕😘 Yes, I would absolutly love a video on moisturizers and spf (which first) and moisturizers WITH spf (ex: CeraVe AM with spf 30). Love you! 😍🧴
I got caught up in the whole "whats on trend" skin care, buying what was popular or claimed to help with my skin needs but would end up ruining my skin, nutrogena, clean and clear and another brand. I finally found a skincare range that helped clear my acne but its so pricey for me (then again now nutrogena and ckean and clear are pretty much the same price which makes me feel better about spending the cash) im on about bioderma, but i recentky went to repurchase my faves, and coukdnt find 2 of the three products!!
Thank you for much for this video!!!! This helped my so much!! I just got my order for my facial oil and I was confused on what to do. But what you did in this video is what every person should listen too!! Once again THANK YOU!!!
First time watching one of your videos and as soon as you pulled out that medical skin display thing I was like "damn, I think I found my new favourite skin care RU-vidr." So I shared this video with my besties and subscribed. Now I'm off to binge more of your videos!
Wow this is what I have been question for awhile oil or moisturizer first! Thank you very much for giving me clear of this, your video is very helpful ;)
This is sooo good and clear concept of using face oil that I have been searching for this kind of explanation for so long and I ‘be finally found it .Thank you for such a good clip.❤️
Barely started to watch you and I definitely agree to look at the ingredients and not to believe this one certain product has aloe Vera when it’s really very low on the ingredient list ! I could already tell I’m going to love you and ur videos !
Yes please do a video on whether to use sunscreen or moisturizer. That would be so helpful. Sometimes I use sunscreen as moisturizer or don’t know if that’s effective..?
Yesssss!!! Please educate us with a video on sunscreen and moisturizers. There are some moisturizers that already have sunscreen in their formula. Are those reliable or should we get it separately to be safer? Thank you so much for your hard work!
I never used a facial oil. That would just aggravate my Rosacea. Heavy occlusive oils and moisturizers cause a burning sensation on the face for me, along with a flair. I use ether Procure Rosacare or Eucerin Rosacea cream and they work great for me on my face. But I do love Vaseline on my lips and my cuts as apposed to antibiotic ointments.
Can you do a video on your favorite most HEALTHIEST sunscreen? I look up up the ingredients in most sunscreens and they’re really HARSH, comedogenic or hormone disruptors and that’s just the ACTIVE ingredients. As a person of color it makes it harder for me to feel compelled to even bother it considering I never get burned and none of my family used sunscreen and they’re old and still look great 🤷🏽♀️
Any examples of moisturizers with a lot of humectants? I feel like EVERY single drugstore option just "sits on my face". CASSANDRA, THE DEHIDRATED BUTTERFLIES NEED YOU TO ANSWER THIS! 😯😍😍
I'm thinking L.O.C or L.C.O method like for the Black natural haircare. L=water based liquid, O= Oils, C=heavier cream/ barrier cream/emollient type product. This is done to trap the most hydration/water into the hair strand therefore it probably makes the same amount of sense for the skin
Cassandra, how long did it take you to fully transition to being vegan? I am very inspired by your story and I have repeatedly witnessed my skin breaking out from dairy in particular, along side sugar and gluten. Could you please make a video of everything you eat in a day? I am scared of starving myself to death as well as just always binge eating vegan junk food. Please? 🙏🏻
Sara Vargek hey! I’m not Cassandra but I kinda fell into the trap of eating too many processed vegan foods. I’m combatting that now and eating more WFPB (whole food plant based) and some helpful channels are -The Jaroudi Family -Krocks in the Kitchen -Pick Up Limes -Simmnet Nutrition
Hey Cassandra, 🥰 I was wondering if you would consider doing a comparative review of rose hip and sea buckthorn oils ? I’m really interested in the two oils but not sure which is best and haven’t seen any reviews of them together on RU-vid. Thank you in advance if you decide to 😌 Sending you love and light, Love your channel 💕
I love you Cass! You are such an inspiration to all of us! I’m in love with all of your videos, been binging them all!❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘 would love to see a vid about how clinical trials are done or how comedogenity levels are made. 🙏
I have been trying place my Sea Buckthorn Oil and I came to your scientific conclusion as a chemist. The formulation of your moisturizer will determine to treat your oil as your night occulsive or hydrating treatment booster/serum
Yes !!! Please 🙏🏻 A sunscreen for dry skin ( like for instance I bought Jergens glow in bronze my skin since I don't use foundation, it works by " tanning my skin slowly however it clearly states "It's a great moisturizer!! Uh... Not!! " ....sunscreen is 100 spf by Walmart... Hate it too help please Thanks little lady BTW : it's refreshing to hear and watch ur videos ur very Intelligent and I live for it!! Not to mention beautiful soul... Never change chica much love and respect 🙏🏻❤❤❤❤🤗🤗🤗🤗✌😍😍😍😍😘😊
I actually just watched Caroline Hirons discuss this yesterday in the morning, and then caught “Kind of Stephen” on Jordan Samuels channel later that night. Caroline said she goes by what “feels” nicer on the skin. Stephen is a cosmetic chemist. He basically said scientists actually don’t know. In one study they put a really occlusive moisturizer on first and followed it with an oil. For comparison, they just put oil on the skin without moisturizer. It turned out, more oil penetrated the skin with moisturizer! In other studies they put oil on before moisturizer. Some oils acted as carriers to help the actives in the moisturizer get into the skin, while other other oils prevented it. That’s what’s so frustrating. There is no one answer.
If you want your skin to be repaired sleep with aloe gel or rosehip/argan oil on. It will absorb so much better during sleep. Wearing it during the day just males you look oily.
Dear Cassandra, I just found you channel through research. I have very dry skin and aging skin. I am 51 years old now. I started to use a toner, a serum and as a top layer a moisturizer. This year, I started also to do face massage with oils. But I have a little bit of a hard time finding the right time to do it. Before my skin routine or after? I mostly do it in the evening before bed time. I do it after my skin routine. I red somewhere in the net to clean the face first, then to massage the face with a plantbased oil and after the massage, to wash off the oil and to do your skin routine. What do you think? Is this more correct than what I have done so far? Thank you in advance for your comments.
I’m always waiting for your videos , and I keep watching on repeat, thank you for helping me chose the best skin care. Your explanations and experience are very helpful. My skin days thank you Cassandra :)
Yes, please make a guide on sunscreens and moistures including BB creams with high SPF (Asian) and tinted sunscreens. Specially, I started using BB cream spf 38+++ after serum and tinted sunscreen Spf 50 on top, wondering if I still need a moisturizer?
I love to use a serum then moisturiser but sosometimes at night I use a skin oil that’s got nice things in to help moisturise my skin to work over night I like macadamia oil 🥰
I wish there were more videos like this. Some many videos say that you should ALWAYS put moisturizer last. I've seen one video that states otherwise - put a humectant before moisturizer, and put other treatments after moisturizer. At the end of the day, I guess it just depends on what you are using.
I'm in agreement with all the posters who want to hear your advice on moisturizers and sunscreen, and maybe include some recommendations of a brand or two that won't interfere with foundation performance. I always find my foundation can look less than great sitting on my skin after applying sunscreen. Thank you.
I have a totally different video request: your input on Milk Makeup's skincare products. I look at what they offer and have so many questions! Has there been any conclusive evidence yet regarding the use of CBD/hemp in skincare? Is it truly beneficial? What about melatonin applied topically? What about the inactive ingredients used to make the product in stick form, how do they affect the skin and/or performance of active ingredients? When I look at their multitude of stick skincare, my gut screams "gimmicky." But I'm hoping I'm wrong!
Great information. I am curious what you would say over moisturizer and sunscreen. My dermatologist told me moisturizer first, let dry, the sunscreen, let sit for 15 minutes, then I can follow with primer. Do you say something different?
Hey Cassandra, nice to finally meet someone like You!! Thanks for all your advices and lessons, I’m not even sure you will read this but I need to ask you something so I’ll try: can you please give us some advise on how to properly do a facial cupping? I found it so nice and relaxing but I’d like to know how properly help the drainage system. Thanks for your help 💐
Hi!! So glad to see this video!! You may not see this but, I'm a mom of 2 teen girls who seem to have combo skin prone to acne. I have very dry skin and can't figure out what is best for them. Can you share effective (diverse price range) skin care regimens for teens? Thanks and keep being yourself 🦋
