I noticed that the biggest thing that I loved for my acne prone dry skin was just to make sure to hydrate my skin and support my barrier. I use tretinoin but started with adapalene, and it’s really good to start with, but layering it with toners and barrier supporting ingredients made the biggest difference in my skin
My current skincare routine is the Krave Beauty cleansers, the Pyunkang Yul essence toner, the Cosrx snail mucin, tretinoin 0.05%, azelaic acid 15%, krave beauty Great Barrier Relief, and the Naturium body moisturizer. In the morning I don’t wash my face, and use the Geek and Gorgeous vitamin C, NIOD Survival 0, and Beauty of Joseon or Nivea Japanese sunscreen, which genuinely feels like nothing when you put it on edit: On occasion I’ll also use the Isntree BHA and Naturium lactic acid 5%, but I really don’t exfoliate all that often just because I don’t notice I need to
@@katelynsousa6591 you use naturium body moisturizer on your face? How is it? I love the ingredients of that moisturizer and how it felt on my body but too scared to use on my face due to not wanting to breakout 😭
@@s.p.e.l.l.b.o.u.n.d848 yeah i’ve been doing it for about a month at this point and there’s no irritation or breakouts, it just feels really weightless and moisturizing
I am 50 years old and have had dry skin all my life. Apart from 6 months of spots in my teens, I have never suffered from acne. However, I watch every one of your video's as I have 3 daughters in their 20's, another daughter aged 11 and a son about to turn 13, they all have different skin problems and as they know I have always taken care of my skin (from around thr age of 10 I cleansed, toned and moisturised!), they come to me for advice. I, in turn, look to you and your recommendations. Some of your suggestions we can't get easily in the UK, but by looking at reviews and ingredients, we can usually find a suitable alternative! Thank-you so much for all your hard work and help Cassandra. X
"If you don't have acne, and only have dry skin, first off why are you watching this video?” Me, having neither, but just enjoying how passionately she talks about this and how beautiful and relaxing her voice is 😍
I'm so glad you mentioned the lactic acid +HA from the ordinary, it absolutely transformed my dry and acne prone skin! I still have occasional hormonal acne flare ups but having that gentle chemical exfoliation in my routine has made the biggest difference of any product I've tried. I get really bad flaking which manual exfoliating only exacerbated and was constantly getting flare-ups because I was stripping my skin trying to clear it up, switching to chemical exfoliation reduced my skin issues pretty drastically nearly overnight!
Yes us dry skin acne group are certainly left out! I now use Benzoyl peroxide because I now know how to hydrate well enough… it can still be hard though! I got a facial once and told the girl I had dry skin, she was like no that’s not possible… halfway through she was like omg your skin is actually dry… 🧐 then she destroyed my dry skin
my skin has gotten dry as hell and the forehead breakouts have returned out of nowhere, so this is exactly what i needed, thanks! i already use the pacifica cleanser :)
The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane is great for my dry and acne prone skin. I use it with my adapelene and they work great together. Most products with ceramides are helpful the way I see it. I love Cerave Moisturizing Cream and DermaB CeraMD Lotion. Also, I love Bepanthen's stuff, the original Nappy Ointment and the lighter Moisturizing Cream are both moisturizing and hydrating and soothing. In summer, hyalyronic acid products are great for us and because of this I have been thoroughly enjoying Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner (clear bottle) and It's Skin Lemon'C Squeeze Ampoule Toner.
Thank you Cassandra, I'm such a big fan. I have dry and acne pro skin and have been marathoning videos every day about it. I currently have COSRX Centella blemish cream spotted all over my face right now trying to fight my acne and scarring. I'm at such a loss. I'm hoping I've just been purging because its making me feel so down about myself. :c
FOR DRY SKIN AND ACNE SUNSCREEN RECOMMENDATION: try the la roche posay tolorine double repair moisturizer and that is great for sry skin and feels like a balm. It’s thick but not to thick and greasy but very hydrating and has great sun protection! Many dry skin fellows(not me) loves this but I am super oily skin don’t fancy the double repair moisturizer. If you have open blemishes and are healing your scars and acne try it! Let me know what you think Cassandra! Brad mondo loves it to 😂 and hyram
Ooohhh I love this video, and also how affordable most of these products are! Right now in the summer I have more combo skin and have a pretty good routine, but when winter comes around I get suuuppeeerr dry. This will be such an incredible help for me once the weather gets colder!!!
YESSS I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG My current dry skin + acne products that I recommend (not all 1 routine, they've accumulated over time and I rotate products as needed) is inkey list oat balm, il hyaluronic acid cleanser, yesto tomato ordinary salicylic acid, trader Joe's rose hydrating toner (I think they might have discontinued this tho) lactic acid 10% +ha, il q10, biossance squalane and vit c serum, feeling smitten brand you glow girl aloe jelly mask, and my precious the Pacifica vegan ceramide moisturizer. Thanks for more recommendations, Cassandra! I'll keep them in mind when I run out of my current products!
I'm combo leaning dry with 50+ year old skin and live in the high desert, and the salicylic acid serum by Selfless by Hyram has become my ride or die. I find it extremely gentle, non drying, and one bottle lasts me months, even with daily use. The Ordinary's 2% salicylic acid is my back-up but I have to change moisturizers when I use it or I get greasy during the day. Dry but greasy is truly a gross combo. 😝
When you asked why are you watching if you have dry skin and no acne, I had to pause. Because yeah, that's totally me. I'm watching in a mixture of curiosity, preparation since my mom developed acne later on in life, and boredom because I am getting over the flu and your vid popped up on my for me section :)
This is what I have learned through trial and error. I have had dry skin my whole life and then I began getting acne when I was 12/13 and I did what any teen would do I went I got Clean and Clear or Tea Tree face wash. It destroyed my skin and made extremely sensitive even to this day ten years later. What I have found that works well for me personally is to just focus on keeping the hydration levels up and the skin barrier happy, I essentially ignore spots for the most part. Oh and double cleansing has helped amazingly! Once I stopped using wipes and makeup removers that require me to rub on my skin my skin got a lot happier. Now I only really get hormonal acne or a few spots when i am very stressed. What I do in those situations is do my skincare routinue exactly as I normally would but include targeted spot treatments like the Inkey List Succinic Acid spot treatment or hydrochlorid patches. I also think for me personally mind-set has played a big role in my skincare journey. I don't get full breakouts really anymore I will get at most like 5 spots at a time and I just have to remind myself that they will go away, I am not less than for having them and that everyone gets them.
THANK YOU! This is a REAL problem, coming from a person who hs suffered for 25 years! I use to use toothpast and all under the sun. Now i know that gentle products are no 1. Im gonna try the Pacific cleanser. That Ceramedx creme has gotten different reviews. Some ppl broke out after using it.
Cassandra I have a tip. I used to use all the benzoyl peroxide washes and they used to dry me out a lot but there was only one that didn’t and it’s 10%. It’s the Walmart brand equate and equates benzoyl peroxide 10% face wash for face and back is the best because it doesn’t even say for dry skin but it’s really good for dry skin because it doesn’t have sls (sodium laurel sulfate) or any sulfates so it’s better (not saying sulfates are bad and in reality really good for oily skin but not as much for dry skin) and equate is cheaper and so much better than pan oculus and I have the worst stubborn acne and have huge cysts and inflammation and red big pimples but this helped prevent and reduce the inflammation in my breakouts! Love equates benzoyl peroxide 10% face wash!(can’t even believe it’s 10%!
thank so much for the recommendations, i was in need of some new products to try for my dry, sensitive acne prone skin lol ! I think one of the things that really helped calm my skin is using the oat cleansing balm as a mask once a week. I have also used the byoma gel moisturizer and try to avoid actives every once in a while to try repairing my skin barrier. I have also become OBSSESSED with sunscreen haha.
I can't even express how thankful I am for your videos. You've really helped me understand more about how diverse and stressful acne can be. I don't have acne; I have what my friends call perfect skin. I don't think it's anything special but I've never had a zit and all I do is let the water run over my face in the shower. I'm actually kinda shocked my skin is so good considering my diet is nothing but pizza and Dr.Pepper
I'm dry & acne prone on my chin. I use Erythromycin & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel; 3% I think. Truly helps. Also use it for sebaceous filaments on nose/chin. My steps (nite): cleanse, serum, moisturize, then the E. & B. P. Gel.
Love it!!! You're totally right, there's not much attention to dry skin with acne or acne scars. I'm going to follow aaaaalllll your advice from this video to buy my next skincare routine ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was so happy to find this video, because this is exactly what I am struggling with. But lots of products are crazy expensive here in Europe or not even available :(
I WISH I had you as my acne big sister during my accutane journey. But this is a decade on and thank god I found you now. You help with creatinga skin care routine.
Sensitive, dry skin sunscreen recommendation (still determining if it breaks me out): the prequel mineral sunscreen!! It literally feels like a lotion, I even use it as spf on my hands lol it's at target now!!
Hey Cassandra… you are literally my skin care guru and I trust nobody except you and Hyram when it comes to skincare. Recently I have come across Snail Mucin which a holy grail in Korean skin care so I just wanted to know your honest reviews about it.
I wouldn't put hyram on a pedestal. His knowledge is not on par with cassandra at all. He is not a skin expert - he doesn't have a background in skin education. He is just a skin fluenc
I LOVE YOU FOR THIS! I just turned 18 and I really recently started gettin into skin care! Not too late lol but I wore so much makeup when I was younger 13-14 😭. Would sleep with it and re apply it again the next morning … honestly I wouldn’t even wash my face i just felt so ugly and depressed I never wanted too see my face without makeup :(((( And my skin is definitely damaged but I love how authentic you are and honestly im a very stubborn person and you made me change my Mind about skincare , feeling good without makeup, the reason to want to advocate about how my depression and makeup got in the way of doing anything and help people feel genuinely comfortable with their own bare skin! It’s really hard for A WOMEN IN THIS WOOOORLD
Cassandra, I only found you and your channel a couple weeks ago, and I have to tell you even in that small amount of time, I have been able to learn SO much from you and the science behind skin. Thank you for explaining things so easily to understand. I had no idea of the good ingredients in skin products and what they do. You now have made me Turn & Learn the ingredients and ever since I have slowly been replacing my cleanser, serums, and been wearing sunscreen everyday I have already noticed a difference! I have not had to spend crazy amounts of money either. Thank you Cassandra for your knowledge and insight, I now am learning to love the skin I’m in, and work with it not against it. 🦋🤍🙏🏻
Yasss finally more options with dry acne prone skin. Especially with sensitive dry acne prone skin, it’s hard to find things especially a retinoid. My favorite has been SLMD Dream On retinoid cream, a little goes a long way!
Currently doing my night routine while watching and this is awesome! Using the Pacifica vegan ceramide barrier cream has been a game changer so ty for the rec! Picked up another bottle at target today along with pimple patches!
My skin is flaky and sometimes tight when getting out of the shower. So, Vaseline is a life changer for me. Sometimes advice from an older generation works. I should have listened to my grandma a long time ago. Curse, my know it all phase. 😅
This video is so perfect! I have dry skin and I'm acne prone! Thanks for doing this video! Also, Ive been using the Pacifica vegan ceramide moisturizer and I'm loving it! Also, the holy hydration sleeping mask by elf skin!
I went to buy the inky list pump top moisturizer recently and they stopped making it in that handy dandy little container. They have it in a squeeze tube now, I was super bummed. I loved that! 🫤
I really appreciate how much Cassandra cares about the people who watch she helps people feel beautiful. Cassandra takes the time to educate and help people make the right decisions she is incredibly gifted and we love her. The beautiful quirky butterfly. Thanks you for taking the time to change the person who looks back at me in the mirror 🪞 🦋🦋🦋🦋
only benzoyl peroxide product I can use is clean pore from Neutrogena it only has 3.5% in it. Definitely has been a game changer for me. Warning it has clay and is technically a mask . I am normal to dry but I think most people can use just figure out time to keep on and wash off before drying out. I've left it over night as spot treatment and religiously use at least once a put on problem areas. Never understood why derms loved the ingredient until now. I'm 42 and finally got most my break outs at bay. I also love sulfur products for spot treatments.
Thanks for giving me recommendations to help me love my skin! I looked over my shelf and almost everything has been bought thanks to you. I'm not SUPER acne prone but painful spots happen on occasion. I do have dry skin and I love the Isntree Watery Gel sunscreen. I use the Colorescience powder sunscreen to tone down the shine and the AHC Sun Stick for reapplication. The only two things I use that I haven't heard you talk about a lot are from Vanicream. Their cleanser and face cream have been great.
Cassandra! I’m a year-round competitive swimmer and my skin goes from normal to very dry to very oily all the time! It’s super unpredictable, but I have realized my skin is more likely to be very oily when I have a day or two off from swimming, but that’s not always the case. How should I do to fix this? I have acne prone skin, so do you think swimming makes my acne issues worse? And if so, what should I do to fix it?
Im not Cassandra but it probably does, the chlorine and chemicals in the water probably dries out your skin and then your skin overcompensates by becoming oily, correct if I’m wrong tho
Vitamin c neutralizes chlorine so I would try washing your face with a vitamin c facewash or using a vitamin c serum before and after getting in the pool. If you shower/wash your face your skin will absorb some of the that fresh water and less of the pool water.
Another amazing cleanser for dry acne prone skin is the La roche posay cleanser, holy grail!! Also a salicylic acid that’s good for sensitive to possibly dry skin is the cocokind probiotic serum!
I'm in my 40's and have both dry skin and acne. My current routine that is working beautifully is this: Applying Differin using the "sandwich" technique per Dr. Dray's instructions on using presciption retinols on the skin. For me what works best is a Cerave or Cetaphil moisturizer, adapalene, then vaseline. If I am going out I forgo the vaseline and use a moisturizing sunscreen. An occasional cleanser that exfoliates: like a salicyclic acid wash. You're moisturizing after washing so no worries about it drying you out too much. It's important you don't use the salicyclic products meant for oily skin, I use something like Cerave salycilic acid with hyaluronic & ceramides face cleanser. Spot applying benzoyl peroxide, after moisturizer has been applied. My skin is bomb now. *note before I was using Differin I used The Ordinary's retinol w/squalene instead.
I found that the ThinkFace sunscreen worked well for my dry/sensitive/acne prone skin. The tinted Sun Bum sunscreen on top of a thick moisturizer also works for me.
The account Alice in the Rabbit Hole has dry acne-prone skin, so a lot of her recommendations cater to that skin type. She’s also big on science-backed skincare and is very cognizant of fragrance as well as budget. Another good resource :)
Yes, thanks for saying it out loud Cassandra - some people are just super fucked; if one has dry skin, a fragrance allergy and is (fungal) acne prone... it's a ducking jungle!
Cassandra, please please please can you recommend any dupes for dermalogica precleanse, special cleansing gel and daily microfoliant.. please and love you and thank you so much!🤍
Yes, PLEASE! Seems like there is nothing on the market comparable to Dermalogica's microfoliant and daily superfoliant- the superfoliant is my ride or die forever HG but $78 is exorbitant. I've tried the by wishtrend Green Tea Powder Exfoliant (weak ass enzymatic action, granules are too large, no chemical exfo, fairly high ph), the DHC enzyme powder (if I recall, cornstarch based, very fine and dissolves too quickly- no manual exfo) and the Kanebo Suisai Beauty Clear Powder(talc based, high ph, contains lactic acid and a couple exzymes, I think protease & lipase, gently abrasive and comes in the cutest lil sachets). Truly nothing I've found is as well formulated as the micro- and superfoliants! I hope someone's got some affordable ideas for us!
Oh man, when Cassy pulled out the glass bottle of salicylic acid and was waving it around, I was totally expecting her to drop it xD my overly tired self physically reached forward as if I could catch it through the screen!
K Beauty has been the solution to my dry skin and hormonal acne - related issues. A lactose-free, vitamin-rich and anti-inflammatory diet (+ vitamin supplements) have helped a lot, too. 🥰
Gurl, I had combo/oily skin with my acne for years, and then I got into my 30s, and now I have combo to dry! Sometimes even the seasons decide if I am dry or oily, but these days the options seem to be dry/combo or normal/combo. Either way, since my skin decided to pull a remix, I have had to gain a whole new set of tools!
Hi, I'm from the Philippines. Can you make a review of Brilliant Skin Essentials, especially their sunscreen? I've been using that for years. It is very popular here in our country. Many people are using it also. I just want to know if it's a really great product or nah. I am looking forward to my request. Thank you!! 💖
Very good video, could you make a video about dehydrated oily skin. My skin is dehydrated from drying it out w strong products, but as soon as i start using conditioning my skin escalates 😕😕😕
Hi Cassandra! Thank you so much from Australia! I have combination skin that is super dry on my cheeks and couldn't work out why I was so dry. I think it was the benzoyl peroxide in my cleanser! I love your videos. Have you heard of Fluff ? It is an Australian skincare line that is vegan, palm oil free and cruelty free. All of the products can be recycled and refilled. Would love your thoughts on it. They have Jojoba oil!
I cant even move my face after usinf adaplene and azelic acid for my pie it made my skin peel of after one night of use and i use less then a pee amount. After doing what you recomend my skin get more clear from the pie its amazing. It feela like it fades with time because of the moisture, always used my skin to be dry.
I tried mandelic acid from ordinary in the past and my skin sadly didnt like it, didnt thinkrto mix it in stuff, but idk ended up using it on my body instead and its fine.
When I was a teenager I used St. Ives, clean+clear blackhead scrub, a strong astringent, and an acne moisturizer. Don’t get me started on the stridex pads lol my skin was so damaged! I thought as my acne got worse I needed even stronger acne products. Man was I wrong. Once I stoped using those products my skin cleared up. My acne was from those products and my damaged skin barrier. If we only knew what we did now lol
