Why would you make this comment? Are you seriously genuinely confused about this?

Technically, you are right. Pointillism is dots only. Larger and varied marks began in 1893 with Paul Signac; it is known as the Second Divisionism movement. Optical mixing was not used as the movement was about color interaction. I call my own work in the Second Divisionism style Iridescent Impressionism©.
