Now I'll make you smile. My Dad was a dental surgeon and learned his craft doing childrens checkups and nervious patients. His soft spoken tone meant that the kids first exposure to dentristy was positive and not scary. But he did get me one day when I asked him what happened if he couldn't pull a tooth. 'Oh thats not a problem' he said 'I just hammer them back in!' Arn't you pleased I didn't become a dentist too! 😃😎

Hi Paul, great video. I liked it. You answered all the questions with useful and smart advice. Thank you for answering my question in the chat. This is a new and wonderful experience, I am glad when more experienced artists share their passions among all of us. I hope you will have more videos like this and many more creative ideas. I also have a little advice for you. In my research for certain toppings, I came across a video where they mention a good substitute for Lead White. I was interested and they said a lot of useful things for portrait artists. I will send you the video and I hope you will find out something there that could be useful to you. My advice is to watch that video. Thank you again for answering my question in this video. As always, I wish you happy painting, a peaceful week and a pleasant day.

Great advice on varnishing Paul - just what I needed. I'll give mine 12 months to fully dry & then try the spray you mentioned, as I'm concerned brushing with a liquid varnish could go array & ruin the painting. Thanks again. 👍

Also, I am using water mixable oils and modified linseed oil. I love the easy clean-up. I watched a RU-vid tutorial by a different artist who mixes titanium white and linseed oil in a 50/50 mix to make the equivalent of Bob's Liquid White. I'm just a beginner, but I've had very good luck with it. It's a bit of work mixing it up, so I'll try your option and see how I like it! Thanks for the tip!

Glad it was helpful Jack. Yes I do a thumbnail test on the thickest paint. If it leaves a dent then I leave it a little longer. As long as its good and firm then varnishing isn't a problem. @PaulRansonArt 12 дней назад
Hello sweetie - no the kittie comes later - its just for nose boops at present. One other tip when using aerosols is to make sure the can is warmed up. If its cold the pressure drops and the spray isn't as fine as it could be. Just stand it in a dish of hot water for a few minuets, shake and spray. The results are alsways so much better. Especially in the cooler months. I avoid any varnishing during the winter time as the damp air can cause blooms on the painting. You know, the sort of ring left on a french polished table by a mug of tea - (sorrry gran!)😃🥰😎

I prefer Golden's Open Acrylics to the Atelier brand. A couple of other manufacturers also make something similar. A few years ago, I bought a set of the Atelier Acrylics for a friend to try. She had problems with them causing a bad rash on her hands which she'd never had with ordinary acrylic paints. I assume this was to do with whatever is added to help stop them setting too quickly. Has anyone else had similar? Any one know whether other "open" acrylics cause the same problems?

I did a Bob Ross mountain oil painting. It turned out wonderful. BUT I DON’T LIKE MY FOREGROUND TREES. They are not all enough. It’s 30 years old. Can I oil paint over them in to a few taller trees??? Thx
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 13 дней назад
Yes you can BUT Just make sure the painting is clean ( no dirt or dust ) and test the painting FIRST. Try a small dab of fresh oil paint on an area of the painting that's not too obvious. Check that there's no reaction between the old paint and the new. If its good then plan where you want you new trees. Maybe try a few test trees first on another canvas. Then retouch your painting. Happy painting 😃😃😍😍😎😎
