I live in North Dakota right around Tioga and your are right. The gas prices and everything else is not to bad in Winter here but once spring hits, everything goes up and it becomes kinda nuts in Walmart. I don’t recommend leaving your woman by herself either cause their are some weird bad people up here

I work out in the oilfield. I think that people that work as floor or pit hands learn a lot. It's a good place to start. CDL jobs kinda suck unless you're doing wireline or something.

Liked the video. I work fracking rigs in the winter (oct-April) in Colorado. My suggestion for people wanting a good job to get your foot in the door is to apply for a Water heating(frac heating) position. It’s seasonal, but you will save soooo much money. Most start you at 20-22 an hour and 80-100 hrs weekly. This job is sooo easy and pays very well. You will have time to talk to a lot of other workers and learn what the business is all about. I love my winters.

Cooper Baird what do you do in your off time? I'm interested in this.
@cooperbaird1192
@cooperbaird1192 6 лет назад
HURT 1 I work at a directional drilling company. We lay pipe under the ground. Everything from fiber optic, to water lines. It’s way harder work but it keeps my family afloat in the off season. I take a month off of work to spend time with my family after the winter season. It just takes good communication between 2 companies.
@hurt1704
@hurt1704 6 лет назад
Cooper Baird is your company hiring for a water or frack heater?
@cooperbaird1192
@cooperbaird1192 6 лет назад
HURT 1 both are the same thing technically. It’s called both. We heat water in the winter to the proper temp so the mud gets mixed properly and they can pressure it down the well. They can’t frack with 33 degree water so we heat it up with our “super heater trailer” (or bobtail) from the feed line and every hour we take a temp from the water tanks to see if we are hot enough. So if you search for either you will find companies hiring for it.
@hurt1704

As a crude oil hauler I can say he is spot on about cdl jobs in the oilfield. Some pay hourly some pay by percentage of the load. I’m home everyday and on track to make 6 figures. Also having a cdl means you can work anywhere, not just the oilfield so you open up your options. Hazmat endorsement a plus.

@rocnnrollbus
@rocnnrollbus 6 лет назад
Come on up here to North Dakota. The large energy services companies are hiring...and a countless number of local companies are too. I currently work as a bus driver for a large company..but will start a job in a few weeks as a truck mechanic for a local trucking company making twice as much. If you have a CDL or can turn a wrench on big trucks and heavy equipment, you may literally be able to walk in the door at a lot of places and walk out with a job where you will work your ass off but get ridiculously paid for it. Indeed is a good place to start....like, right now! If you are already here in the local area even better, but do NOT show up here without a job and housing..secure that and do any additional maneuvering you desire for employment when you get here.

If you have a Class A CDL or plan to get one MAKE SURE to take your test in a MANUAL transmission(stick shift) truck. The reason being is most oilfield fra c companies still use manual transmission trucks. If you test in an automatic they will put an E restriction on your license which means you can't drive a manual transmission truck. Most truck driving companies have switched to automatic while in the oilfield most trucks are still manual. That's how it is in Texas,but I'm not sure about other states

Got 12 years in this game, and glad to have finally just gotten out! Lol It’s a good job, money is good, but.... It comes at a price for some of us. I’ve got a marriage in the rear view mirror due to this job. And I’m putting it out there, that’s something you may want to consider before you go down this road. It’s a hard on family life. It’s hard on the guy that’s in the Derrick for 12 hours when it’s -40, and it’s hard on the woman at home that’s trying to keep up with the kids. And finding a job when you leave the patch is tough too. Oil fields hands are considered a liability in the real world. It will be assumed that you’re on drugs, and that you’re a safety hazard. I live the oilfield, I’m proud of what we did, and I’m proud of what I accomplished while I was there. But looking back, I can’t say it was worth it. Just my situation, not saying it will happen to any of you. But people need to know that there is a high cost attached to being a roughneck, not worth losing your family.

Most people who succeed in the oil and gas industry, are those who have mechanical experience, abilities to operate heavy equipment, and have a CDL. If all you have ever done is work at Walmart, FedEx, or a library, the industry is probably not for you. If you have common sense, mechanical and electrical aptitude, you will have a big advantage.

The energy industry is up there as the top three highest paying along side pharamaceuticals and tech. Shit ton of over time in the lower level jobs and well if you smart enough you can make more lifting less. If you wanna make money I advise you either get into electrical and become a real wise. or oil field work such as flowback water transfer or have you’re own hauling business and move equipment on and off sites for clients but that’s a little harder to get into. but if you do go down that road don’t be lookin for a career very few skills transfer over unless you’re an engineer or something

People who "work" in the oilfield hate it when people who go to a boom area and get every day jobs in the area due to higher pay say they work in the oilfield. Also to be truly successful it needs to be your career not a job. Been going 14 years and never been out of work.

It’s not a job I don’t think I have a few years in North Dakota. It was awesome we had a lot of fun and spent a lot of money. I ran equipment and did some well services like flow backs. We had a community of buddies most of whom I went to high school with. Awesome time when the oil is up. It was like the wild Wild West. But when oil dipped we were constantly reminded of how the supervisors had stacks of applications in their desks that we were all replaceable. Hell they had multiple people every day coming into the office asking for work. In 2015 we had ConocoPhillips company men coming and asking for jobs oil was so low. Your were worried every single day if you still had a job. The bosses slowly started cutting people and pay every chance they got the lower the oil dropped. They knew we were scared and desperate to keep our jobs so they would do whatever they wanted knowing we would take it. It’s a temporary job to me. I met a bunch of the OG oil workers we had around that have been chasing the patches and booms since they were young. Not every one becomes the company man with experience. They had nothing. They were divorced or never got married they didn’t see their kids all they got is a truck. It’s sad that’s when I said fuck this. People need to know to get a job you need to be there. Most of those companies will not hire you unless your there. And don’t come down their with your grandmas minivan. I seen weather as cold as -57 you will freeze lol. get an apartment which I remember them being 15-2000 a month or bring a truck and camper. The part of the oil field that’s expensive was the cost of living like trailer spots or rent I seen shit box apartments one bedrooms for over 1500 a month one that has a terrible excuse for a kitchen in the same room as the bed it’s like a hotel room with a tiny kitchen. Stuff like milk and fuel seemed relatively close to what it is in my home town. Plus you have eastern Montana right there and stuffs even cheaper. Food wasn’t bad I didn’t think. You would be smart to find a company who supplies housing like rigs or some companies have space on their property for campers. I have noticed the oil field jobs that supply perks always seem to be less an hour. The other expensive part is traveling

Anyone telling you they know how long this current "boom" will last is lying. In reality i dont even consider this a boom, oil is only around $70 a barrel, less than half of the highs during the last boom. The main thing is that unemployment nationwide is super low so there is a severe lack of shortage of the labor in the oil fields. As far as your CDL, apply at literally any trucking company in the Permain Basin of west Texas. Companies are desperate for drivers. Flat bed will pay the most. There is also hauling frac sand, crude, water, all tankers.

Ok so there's so much wrong with this video. You make a lot of solid points, but there's a bunch of crap in this. 1. Don't live on the reservation. 2. Don't work on the reservation. 3. If you're driving for a good company you'll make more working on commission than hourly unless you suck. If it's a job that you'll make more hourly, your company will charge hourly and you'll get your same percentage... Just of the hourly rate. 4. Verizon 4g everywhere that's not in a valley. 5. Rent in Tioga is like $900 for a 2 bedroom with a heated garage. It's cheaper in Williston right now. 6. Nothing to do... Hunting and fishing is outstanding. Walleye all day. Northern and catfish. Deer everywhere. Yeah there's no Mall in New Town. New Town sucks. Don't live there. If you're into the outdoors you'll love the ND oilfield. Go fishing on your way to work or home. Bring your shotgun to work. Get a couple pheasants on your way home. Go camping at Theodore Roosevelt national Park, or just hit White Earth Bay. All kinds of shit to do. 6. I agree. Campers are so 2012. Don't bring a camper up here unless it's for recreation. 7. It's picking up here. Rates are going up. Everybody's hiring. 8. Crime isn't bad. When my wife came up I made her carry in Williston and not go anywhere at night. I forget to carry now and my wife and kids do whatever they want. Kids still play outside here. They ride to school and to the movie theater on the weekend with their friends. It's great.
