The saddest part? No one would care about her or her family if she wasn't famous.

+Stad the law and law breaking isn't as black and white as you'd think. There will always be a gray area, she's part of that gray. The law is there to protect the country, but what ever happened to the whole give us your poor and give us your weak? It's more of a moral question

It’s easier to purchase a gun than to get a Green card. That’s what saddens me.
@yumiloomer8345
@yumiloomer8345 5 лет назад
Becoming an American is a privilege and owning firearms is a right. 2 very different things.
@EarthToKiki
@EarthToKiki 5 лет назад
Yumi Lu yes, I’m well aware. Although that doesn’t change the fact the it’s easier to hand irresponsible people a gun just because it’s a “right” which causes so much damage to our own people... yet it’s harder for others to try to make a good living for themselves & children. Not saying it should necessarily be so easy, but for people to wait & try for so many years & have families separated? Not right. There are some people like this case, were they have tried & really hard to get their card.
@yumiloomer8345
@yumiloomer8345 5 лет назад
@@EarthToKiki it's not easy to get a gun. You have to go through a whole process before being cleaned to purchase. Just like you go through a process to become an American. The difference is that being born American means you are born with rights and becoming an American means you are being granted rights. Statistically speaking there are more responsible gun owners then irresponsible gun owners. Yes. Irresponsible people that own guns can be an issue. But it's not the guns it's the people. Blaming an in adamant object for the crimes the carrier did is ignorant and dangerous. Responsible gun owners save lives. They saved mine and my son's. Common sense immigration saves lives too. It's our job to make sure who is coming in is safe and cleared.
@EarthToKiki
@EarthToKiki 5 лет назад
Yumi Lu yes, I’m well aware of the process of both. My dad, boyfriend , brother, brother in law , fam members all have their guns LEGALLY & their license to carry. & I was there for each & every process. I’ve also seen how long my family from Mexico has tried to get a card & it’s been going on for MANY years so they can move here. & I never ever blamed the gun. I know for a fact a gun isn’t powerful without someone controlling it. Either way. Our biggest mass shooting for example.. look HOW MANY guns he had in the Vegas shooting. Why was that so easy for him to have & walk around with JUST like that. I believe in gun rights as well please do not get me wrong. I don’t believe in them taking that right away. I just don’t understand how something that can be so powerful can be easily purchased, mean while some people just want to have the privileges we have.
@EarthToKiki
@EarthToKiki 5 лет назад
Yumi Lu & yes you’re right.. our job is to make sure who is coming in & cleared, but that’s a bit controversial when our own people are shooting each other up & our children. How is that any more safe? Not saying at all that getting a card should necessarily be the easiest , but maybe gun laws should meet those standards as well. If we’re talking about what’s really safe for our country.

Her parents were illegal so they didn't have records and the parents didn't say hey we have children being left behind. They should have told someone we want our daughter to come with us and not left her behind. They made the choice to leave her behind believing she was better off in the US then going back to Colombia with them. She has made a good life for herself in the US but who's to say she wouldn't have had a good life in Colombia. It's hard to get back in once the US kicks you out. The best choice is wait your turn, save and pay the fees and come legally. The cost of coming illegally is higher so money is not the problem.

I know we just have to live with the decisions we make . i'm really sorry to phrase it out this way but some , not everyone but some , Simply do not care , let's put it this way , You are drowning and you see an island nearby . You have no idea what lays ahead in that island . As you approach , you see ppl , they clothed you , shelter you and when dinner comes , You see them cooking meat , human meat , You stumbled upon a tribe of cannibals What do you do then , You are malnourished , you haven't had a proper meal for weeks , you are tired , hungry , light headed . What do you do? In all honesty what would you do? I would resume the cooking and dinner with the cannibals even if , and possibly i'm gonna be their dinner the next couple of months Why put yourself through that much suffering when an easy solution lies ahead of you . You can , it shows grit and honour in the highest calling but no one would really care , really . People do what they have to do to survive , it's our primal instinct

Here in America we did what we had to to survive. It was called the American Revolution. I suggest that these people from these third world countries stand up to their corrupt leaders. Nothing comes easy. If you want our country to be as great as America you have to fight for it. Nothing could ever chase me from my country. Hearing her speak as herself- a smart and sensible woman- and not a brainless bimbo like she does in Jane The Virgin and OITNB really makes me want her to try for deeper roles than the shallow best friend. I understand that there probably isn't any more room but that does not mean it is okay for people to spew ignorant comments or say irrational things. If it was better handled then maybe immigrants wouldn't have to jump over borders or things like that. I said nothing about anti-immigration countries. The US if nice to visit and vacation, but I love Mexico and I prefer living here." Go downtown and talk to the homeless living under plastic sheets and ask them if they want to break into the US for high hopes and dream. But they are already in the US. there has been massive genocide of europeans as well, in europe and america (no records of this, i know. i am very aware of the false fact stating..). does it not count because they are whites? anyways, i was merely criticizing his trivializing the conditions that massive immigration creates. you can see this pattern across europe as well. all wealthier nations are destroyed by massive floods of immigrants, from very run down and negative developed nations, countries. so it is not only a 'response to 'oppressive colonization'. it is a problem in and of itself, in particular generated by those who pose as the largest populations of immigrants. and especially him being british, the 'results' of immigration are surely more than apparent.

But if you think it's okay to leave a CHILD alone, without her parents, without even making sure she would be okay or have the means to survive, that's so screwed up honestly. I wish I hadn't read the comments...*sigh* it makes me sad about how such a "free" country like America can be so liberated with certain issues but chooses to remain ignorant on other issues that are just as vital as the rest... As a Colombian immigrant to the Untied States I can personally testify to the hardness that is garnering actual citizenship papers. It took 15 years. My parents struggled for 15 years to be able to be seen as somewhat equal to the people of this country and they live in fear of committing any type of offense because they are scared that this "privilege" will be torn for them. They're terrified of getting screwed over and the truth is, they would much rather be in Colombia right now. But they can't; their work is here and it is incredibly difficult to find a job now at their age in our home country. It is true that they have found a way to live here and they do have a decent paying job but at what cost? Please ask yourself this the next time you parade here, trying to make those who have tried feel completely and utterly like shit because what they or what their families' have had to do to survive in a country that feeds of those who are less fortunate. We are grateful for what we have but we will NEVER get back what we lost when we had to leave to be given a chance at life. Remember that the next time you presume you even have the right to tell us to go back to our country. Remember the things we have given up; our dignity, our joy, our faith, and our closeness to be here and know that WE ARE HERE AND WE HAVE JUST AS MUCH OF A RIGHT TO THIS LAND AS YOU DO. Thank you.

Rae Smith It's true it takes a long time to fully become a citizen. But that's what visas are for. They offer temporary authorization to be here while in the process of becoming a citizen. If you can't get everything situated within the allotted time frame, then you are made to leave. It's not that hard. Every other country out there does WORSE to immigrants than the U.S. does.
@clara426
@clara426 9 лет назад
Scranton Travelers That's not true, immigrants are treated so well in most of Europe. The U.S. has a very bad system, it's so complicated. I live in Sweden, and we have a number of immigrants that we take in every year, and if there are enough resources we take in more. For a couple of years, you are in the hands of the state. You can't be sent home. Then, you can just go to the police department, fill in some papers and get your passport (citizenship) right away. Immigrants get about 300$ every month, but they can apply for more, and if they have kids they get 200$ per kid. The state also helps them with education, for which they get another 200$. And when they're "ready" they help them get a job. This is how most of Europe takes care of it, why the U.S. has such a complex system I don't know.

Scranton Travelers I find world politics very interesting and I write about these things for the local paper so yes, I do wan't to talk about them. The U.S. has really bad politics and those aren't exactly news. She was 14 years old and didn't get any help when her entire family was taken from here. Everything from the way they deal with immigrants to health insurance, equality and enviromental issues are so unneccesarily complex. While Europe, some of Australia and in some cases eastern Asia got their marriage equality laws many years ago, the U.S. got them just now. Health insurance is free for everyone, nuclear power stations are banned, nurse jobs are well paid etc. So what if I don't live there, It's not exactly rocket science. I'm just saying that U.S. handles these issues badly, and they're amongst the only first world countries doing it that way.

The Pilgrims left their native land to seek a better life here on this continent. How do you know her parents aren't religious? Her parents also left their native land to seek a better life here in America. And as for your example of people moving into my house, I'm sure that's exactly how Native Americans felt about English settlers. Seems to me when white folks do it they receive a non-threatening description like "pilgrims" or "settlers". But when brown people do the same thing they are described as "criminals" or "aliens".

The Matthew 11:28 verse "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" on the Statue of Liberty are not just words. They have meaning. We are not a country that will tell children who have lived here their entire lives get out. What is "self deportation?"
@SCWoodbury2009

The point you're missing is the historical narrative. When white people migrated to a land that was already occupied by native people, they are celebrated as "pilgrims" and "settlers". ***** you'll have to stay current on the latest news. Most politicians will attest that the system is broken and something needs to be done about it; that's why the Senate passed bipartisan legislation to address immigration in America. We're talking about human beings and their lives are in limbo until politicians who are paid to legislate will simply fix the problem. When we felt we were being overtaxed Patriots broke the law in the 1700s and Blacks used civil disobedience in the 60's. "If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." - Thomas Jefferson. So you think it is okay for parents to cross the United States border illegally. Trespassing on U.S. soil and ignoring proper immigration protocols and policies. You think it is okay for someone to simply choose whatever country they want to invade simply because they can't make ends meet in the country they are citizens of? You think it is okay for a person to refuse to make their own country better and take their woes and troubles to a country they illegally enter? You think it okay for these parents when they are deported to not take their child with them? You think immigrants who are waiting for visas to get into the U.S. should take a back seat to lawbreakers who invade the U.S. and then demand amnesty? Big deal it's a long process to become a citizen. Who made you dictate that you can just get sick and tired of waiting and then take it upon yourself to break the U.S. nation of laws? You are a fucking bitch.

+Elizabeth B People in Mexico and other Latin countries have been trying to make their country a better place but the corruption in these countries is overwhelming that even as I'm typing this people are protesting, fighting, but do you think that's gonna do very much when your government is going against you? When your own country would rather kill you than to help you? Just look at Oaxaca Mexico. The same people who are here and working are the same who have applied and their papers have not come in. And invading? Invading the country? where? Illegal immigrants if anything are making this country better they are the back bone of this country, and if they are "invading" jobs it's because it's hard labor that most Americans don't want to do. As for being a bitch when did having my own opinion make me a bitch? it's fine really I'd rather be called a bitch than a conformist. Yeah you're right people with children is unfair with the consequence of being deported and leaving their children behind. If you don't want people to enter the country illegally then help these people try to get better ways for them to get their papers faster! if you were given the situation where it could be life or death I bet you would choose life a better life that is what most of these people are trying to do.

My mom was asked by my Grandfather when he got his residency in the States, he was the one to fill the paperwork for her. While the same happened for my dad by his mom, and the recently married couple moved. It took 11 years for her to finally get the exam, to which she spent a whole year studying for. She passed it but didn't get the citizenship because my Grandfather had told the state she was legally single when he had filled out the paperwork to petition for her residency so long ago. She was single at the time, mind you, but since it wasn't corrected , they told her she was lying to the state and could not get the citizenship. That was 12 years ago. 3 appeals and a few grands on awful lawyers later: nothing. The system is not fair. She has more than paid for a mistake that was not her own. The system is not fair.

The reason they don’t is, because papers cost a SHIT ton of money and a SHIT ton of time. The minimum wage in Latin countries is 1 dollar. Two, they don’t have the time because most of them are fleeing due to gangs trying to murder them because of reason that aren’t even the families fault. Three, the education value is less valuable than garbage. Four years at college over there? Congrats now you can be a cleaning lady WITH A DEGREE! Because, universities have no value due to corruption. No one has a future there. Death and starvation is WAY TOO common over there. And Americans are way too concerned about their next Netflix show or What pizza toppings they like because they’re ALLLL privileged rich ass holes; The struggling middle class is a DREAM for most hispanics in Latin countries, a dream they can’t EVERRRR afford to think about.

How can someone be so cruel to say that they're glad someone was deported? "Laws are never to be broken"... What kind of argument is that? If laws were never broken, the American Revolution would have never happened. This would still be England. We'd all still live under monarchy and blacks would not be able to vote in the US. Was it illegal to house Jews in Germany during the Holocaust? You bet it was. Was it the correct thing to do? You bet your ass it was. It's easy to judge people when you aren't in their shoes. Stop assuming everyone is in the same socioeconomic status as you. So many people prefer to risk their lives and cross the border, knowing that they could be deported or killed by the national guard. Why? Because it couldn't be worse than the life they're living. Do you know what it's like not to have access to safe water, food or other basic necessities? What about education? Yes, many people are not educated on their prospects and legality in the US. Is that their fault? No. Just like it's not your fault you're white. Isn't America about the American dream? About coming from nothing and being something? Many people's ancestral background doesn't date back to the pilgrims but to the late 1800s and early 1900s. And to the guy who filled out the papers for his wife, SHE WAS MARRYING AN AMERICAN. That's a much different process than getting papers when you're a poor family coming on a tourist visa.

Alexfolledemoi i agree but in a world without borders and rules there will be chaos. It's just how humans work, people have different opinions and some of them are willing to destroy lives to get how they want.. so borders and rules are made so we can actually live safe on our own planet. Because THIS very planet is OUR home, and it will be that for a very long time.

So she knew she was a criminal and paid her time for the crime, but to spend time in a detention center after for illegal immigrants only to find out you're not actually a citizen nor have an American birth certificate is hard. Then being forcibly sent to a country you've never known. Scary af, penniless and literally know nobody. That's what's devastating.

I'm tired of the comments of "get out of here", "go back to your country", "become legal or fix your homeland". You people have no idea of the complexity of the problem, these countries have decades and decades of corruption that cannot be undone with just another official in the government. So many people have died "fixing" their country, and others escape with their families to a better life. Those who judge without knowing their story sickens me. I beg you to inform yourself why people immigrate to other countries and the U.S, they do it for survival.

I feel so sorry for her.. Having my parents taken away would be my worst fear. I've always been one of those people who didn't accept illegal immigrants, but I'm starting to have a change of heart. People do that because they want a better life for themselves or for their family. I don't think it's fair that our government does these kinds of things. Of course there's true criminals that come here, and they don't deserve to stay, but then you have this girl and her family who just wanted to have a good life. They're not criminals, so they shouldn't be treated as such. It's truly disgusting. Also, who are we to say that people can't come here unless they have permission? Remember when the British came here and forced the Native Americans out? Don't be a hypocrite.

Illegal immigrants are treated like royalty compared to the LEGAL immigrants of 100-125 years ago. That was STRUGGLE. No food stamps, no social services, no ESL, no free education, no identity politics, no immigrant right's groups, etc. No racist immigration lobbyists like La Raza deceiving people. They had to assimilate and learn english on their own. Over the past year, the USA has GRACIOUSLY allowed 60,000 illegal Central Americans, many carrying diseases, to be dispersed in all 50 states. Disease-carrying kids getting FREE education, shelter and culturally-tolerant food. No quarantine at all. If a Polish or Italian immigrant circa 1903 tested positive for tuberculosis, then they'd be quarantined and most likely deported. Illegals and post-1965 immigrants don't realize how GOOD they have it compared to the immigrants of 100 years ago who were the builders of much of the innovation during the 20th century.

It’s not only a slap in the face to those who have or who are still waiting but there is no reason why we should have homeless veterans or homeless Americans for that matter. We need to help our own people before we start helping others and why is that America is a bad country because we don’t want to take everyone in? Why don’t people shame the countries who are that bad to begin with. We are not obligated to take in anyone.
