You don’t need to replay the game from the beginning for other endings, you can continue from the bench at the black egg to get the other endings

Interesting video! I will say a lot of your issues with the game's design mentioned in the vid are corrected with dialogue. Characters will give hints on where to go next, and the main story is delivered atmospherically and through implications. also, playing from your last save pops you on your most recent bench before the boss. your feelings that the game was anticlimactic and felt bad to finish was intentional and meant to inspire intrigue so you explore more. I don't recommend replaying unless you want to see the dialogue you missed or you want to see how earlier areas feel with your experience. Hollow Knight is a game that expects you to read, though, and I expect that your enjoyment of it would increase if you do, but if not, then maybe the game isn't as much for you as it is for others, and that's fine too! good job giving it another shot and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Tbh problems of "didn't know if there are different endings/why bosses are like that/is there more content in this game" are commonly solved by *reading the dialogue*. Hell, "I'm not Hollow Knight" revelation should come with seeing the Memorial in the City: "Through his sacrifice Hallownest lasts eternal". No wonder you're so confused if you refuse to read in-game dialogue or irl explanations. Where are you going to get your info from?)

I'm completely baffled that you would not play a game with music. Music and story are an immense part of so many games, but it seems you literally only play games for the gameplay. Honestly doesn't really feel like you're qualified to make remarks when you have only experienced a portion of the game. It's as if, if the game doesn't force you into a cinematic cutscene, it doesn't have a story to you.

This is the way I played the game too the first time. Got the same ending too with ~60% completion. But then I reloaded the save and continued with it. I don't really understand the criticism that you couldn't have known there was a lot of stuff more to see when the game clearly tells you you've completed just a bit over 50% (of the base game). It's actually really easy to get to >85 % without outside instructions by just looking around but somewhere after that it can get hard to find things to do and know where to continue some quests. The max completion percentage is 112% with (free) DLC content and that is obviously pretty confusing if you don't look it up. Backtracking is a big part of metroidvanias so I think there was a bit of conflict with player's expectations here.
@ThroarbinGaming
@ThroarbinGaming 10 месяцев назад
That is true, I suppose I meant more that I didn't know there was more BEFORE the end screen. Plus a lot of games with percentages of completion don't mean there's more story you missed but just collectibles and unless you're into that, most people won't pursue it.

Actually stopped the video when it came out, played it for myself and now i could finally watch it. I've got some issues with hollow knight myself and I am generally not a fan of Metroidvanias, but it was still that good. But man, if you play a game and review it, you gotta read the story. I know that we are a bit hurt by lazy textdumps from big gamedevs, but Indie Games try to convey a lot of information in a very charming, efficient way. So I guess it's just honouring the people who made those carefully crafted games by guving them the minimum amount of attention and care. Wow! The production value on this video is really palpable. I'm impressed. You deserve more love. As for the game itself, I appreciate what you have to say about it. It's my personal favorite game ever, but I am also a completionist that likes figuring out mysteries. There's a lot of tragic lore to this world, but, like Dark Souls, it's not obvious on the surface. The narrative is woven into the world design, NPC dialogue, item descriptions, and lots of environmental story-telling. I'm glad you liked it, even with only having gotten less than sixty percent completion. If you do return to it, you wouldn't need to start over. You can return to the same save file to the bench right before the Hollow Knight, and I very much recommend checking it out. Even if this is where you leave it, I'm glad you picked up on the charm, boss designs, character interactions, and world that has made it so special for so many of us Hollow Heads. All in all, fantastic video. Looking forward to seeing more from you. You've got a new sub. :)

Ahhhhhh, yes. Hollowknight, I have a lot of things to say about this game, but it would be better if I said it in streams, though, that can be a problem. Instead, I'm going to try to help without spoiling anything to you. Your guess about the black barriers are correct! there's one located deep inside a garden that can help you get a different ending, but there's more to it. You will also have to finish a certain moth sidequest that can be hard to finish, the grave pins and visiting previously dead bosses should help A general tip is to dreamnail anything that moves, even yourself when the time will come. Another general tip is to check on your map for any pathways that lead to nothing, this shows a room you haven't explored yet and it will be very important to you if you ever wish on coming back to it to complete everything. Especially for the sewers, I know, it's not the best looking place, but your missing ALOT of things by not exploring it all, specifically a dump site that will be an important ''landmark'' to backtrack to when you ever find every hidden keys. Speaking of hidden, Hollowknight requires a keen eye and an experimental mindset, if you don't hit every wall (and I mean it) you could very much never find that hidden key. (PS) I didn't hear the hollowknight boss fight music....Did you...turn off the music?!?!?!?!!? If yes, I consider you never even played the game. (PPS) 100% steam and first try P5, when you'll understand what P5 means, you might just go insane.

First of all, great video. Good editing and structure and production as a whole. I just have one question. In the clips of you beating The Hollow Knight for the first time, did you have the music turned off or was that done in editing? The score to the final fight is, at least in my opinion, half of the value to the whole fight. The tragic feel of the whole fight, with the Hollow Knight stabbing itself and stumbling as it's using its final bit of determination to attack you comes a lot from the music. Anyways, good video looking forward to the games you do next.

This video feels like if you spend the entirety of your portal videos just talking about the puzzles and nothing else. There’s this great mod called Hallownest Vocalized that just straight up fully voice acts all of the dialogue in the game, and I really think you should check it out if you ever return to Hollow Knight, because this video makes it pretty clear that you just couldn’t engage with the story in text form at all, which is totally fine, we all intake information in different ways, but it does mean that you just completely ignored a massive part of the game.

Wait, did you not get or use the dream nail? Not much of a spoiler but the text, as the hollow knight you are supposed to be hollow, no emotions and such, just following the path fulfils that, but plenty of the game evidence points that it doesn't work, you get the bad ending. Exploring areas after you get those abilities, and interacting with a specific tool offers more insight. Also, totally recommend the Grimm Troupe free DLC. It may require a bit of lookup for how to start, but I think has the best boss in the game.

just saying dude really nice that you played hollow knight it is a great game. Just a tip the game is best experienced with all dlcs downloaded aka voidheart edition. That and with sound and music on you monster. (this is a joke but also not because who plays a game with sound off that's like watching a soundless movie or a book with no words but some pictures. Music and sound is an integral part of a finished creation as without good music a work is stale and uninteresting all of these aspects work together to make a unified harmony so don't play games without it, otherwise it isn't a proper experience. Also pin usage is almost essential and they have different colours. I used them to find nearly everything. Hollow knight values exploration a lot and I don't know about you but to me searching every way and finding new paths and secrets is one of my favourite parts of games and also spell usage is quite necessary as they allow for lots of damage to be done and give other benefits for when the game becomes more difficult. Also you got the bad/meh ending but that is what happens when you don't explore especially in metroidvanias (all of this is said with no hate great video) Also also if you listened to the dialogue and explored you would have found very obvious things that would have helped you find the true ending. and also do dlcs they make the game a bazillion times better.

Okay giving the rest of my thoughts after finishing the vid: -The game is free-roamish, but not until you explore Greenpath and defeat Hornet. That's why her boss fight is a bit simple, it's meant to be an early game boss no matter what. -Dialogue is at least somewhat useful for understanding the story. However, the story itself is hidden in between the lines, and is mostly uncovered by inferring things from the environment. In that way, it almost feels like a mystery game: you enter a dead kingdom and need to explore to understand why it died. -Tiso was definitely a shock for me as well. His dialogue is mostly snooty and saying that he's better than other people, so most people start off disliking him, but still feel sympathy for him at his death. His little side story also ties into the main story themes, which is that nothing lasts forever no matter how hard you try (*slaps side of game* this kingdom is a metaphorical corpse and can fit so much symbolism). -Going off of that point, I really like that characters like Tiso and Quirrel can be found at different locations, but you don't have to meet them at every location for their story to progress. It gives a very natural sense to the game. It also might have contributed to why you felt so aimless at the start, since a lot of the game is just wandering around and finding people or items, instead of starting with a goal and then following that objective. (The masks technically count as a goal, but they're very long term and require you to explore first to get certain items anyway.) -Deepnest getting the appreciation it deserves! It's very creepy, and that's why I love it so much. -It's impressive how wrong the Hollow Knight boss fight feels. The ending feeling wrong is also intended! It's another tie-in to the themes of the game, where your character is trying to replace the Hollow Knight and keep the kingdom stable for a little longer even though it won't actually keep the kingdom alive long-term. -I'm glad you added that last note. It's definitely frustrating to see someone miss an ending or opportunity, but that's what a lot of first time players would do, and something that needs to be kept in mind for game design. I will note that streamers/lets-players tend to miss more than the average player due to splitting their attention for the audience, but in your case I'm guessing you skipped over dialogue not because of recording but because it's just not what you're interested in. (And the game is good enough that it provides a fantastic experience even without the plot, which your rating proves.) Keeping your runs as blind as possible makes it much more realistic of an experience even if that experience misses some parts of the game that you'd only get in retrospect. I would recommend completing your save file, either for a vod or just on your own time, just to appreciate more of the game (and if no other reason, to get to fight an extra boss in one of the other endings). However, I'm glad that you ended the video where you did, because it captured your first playthrough the best--and it's also a nice reminder to myself that not every gamer is a completionist. I'm probably repeating myself at this point so I'll stop, but know that I really liked the video and I'm glad that you gave your honest impression of it!

Great video, amazing quality and I can't believe you don't have more subscribers. That being said, I am pretty disappointed that you stopped playing there as you can in fact just keep going and get the other endings without restarting, and there's so many amazing things you still haven't found. Though I understand that this is intended to be a blind playthrough, but who says that getting the credits has to be the end of it? Definitely would love to see more if you ever get back to it
