We can all settle in life cause it’s easy . Or fear creeps in, an freezes us . Do we have a choice? HECK YEAH WE DO ! . We have made all the choices that have put us where we are now.. love wins
Im 55, and decided about 12 years ago that my happiness was more important than money, switched careers, and now am happy every day, I love what I do and am happy to wake up every morning. Then last year I found you here on you tube, I wish I’d found you a long time before, you lift me( and lots of others) up, and now I do what I can to lift others up as well. Working on saws and small gas engines is my go to quiet time, and learning to slow down and enjoy this life I have been given. Keep up the great work Buckin, and I hope to be able to see you at Buckin fest this year.
Brother I'm so glad I tuned into this tonight.. I'm 38 years old and I'm an alcoholic and this video really helped me out thank you. Another day sober.
We are alcoholics. That means you own it and rather than it owning you. One day at a time friend. God blessed me with 15 years the day after St Patty’s Day...yep last beer was green. One day at a time
My paternal grandfather and my father were alcoholics, lots of tears and sorrow. The death of a few friends gave me the eye opening power to retreat my thirst. Wish my other friends would lighten up or quit. You can only go so far out on a limb for someone else, their negative energy can snap the branch and take you down. Gotta be kind and good and smart to yourself if you expect to help others. Stay safe Stay strong Be kind
Thanks for the positivity. Lost my job after 8 years, and went hard until I mentally and physically crashed life has been crazy. And just the other day I saved my best friend from a overdose. I've been trying to push myself to start woodworking.
Wood, in whatever fashion....makes me happy, makes me feel peaceful after workn with it. If its calln to u friend, try it out! Thank u for sharing, stay Strong, stay Kind! Stay kind to yourself as well😉💪👍✌❤❣
I’m in the same area on the handle. I am trying to get things going better for my family like it was before the major changes that happened last year. Keep up the good work and word. Bless you and your family.
Grew up on the north end of the Island. Watching these videos is like walking into the Legion on dart night and pulling up to the bar with the old boys who've been living timber their whole lives and hearing just pure wisdom. Guys who have been working since they were kids and never went to school, but who've struggled, who've had to push themselves hard and really test their limits, who've spent so much time working that it comes to em like breathing now. Working is automatic, and it gives a man time to think. Things like "What's it all for" "What's it all mean". Guys with no college or university, just thinking the same way they work, tirelessly, methodically. Taking it an idea at a time and refining those ideas, distilling them down to their essence. Old loggers are philosophers.
at 73 and on the back side of the ladder---still cutting fire wood and taking care of the property and most important , passing the knowledge to the grand children. Life is good.
I love your heartfelt talks that you have with us Billy Ray. I am at the end of the axe handle. I was a cabinetmaker owning my own shop and truly loved my work. Even though my work brought me joy I found that my wife (Wendy) of 50 years and our 3 sons and 5 grandchildren have filled my life with real joy. It is sharing love with people and them sharing it back that that has been so uplifting to me. Work at something that you love is great but nothing compares to the hug of a granchild . I am a blessed man Buckin and investing in people like you do touches my heart. Happy Easter to you and Wendy and the kids! God bless you! Love you brother!
Hey buckin, names Joe, I’m a young tree harvester & I’m learning about sustainable forestry. I’m 17, still in high school, and I want to use one of YOUR axes, or mauls, to complete my sustainable logging project. I split oak wood with mauls & buck tree limbs with them too when I want a workout. I really want one of your axes my friend :)
Hey Joey dude, Sustainable forestry is no joke. These giant tree farms with monoculture planting is a dangerous practice. Sustainable agriculture and permaculture techniques are very important for the world leaders to embrace. Stay diverse in your skills and you will make a difference. The word Ecology should be on the tip of our tongues.
@@joeymarsh5571 They set a presedence for young people to believe that tree farms are the answer to clear cutting and over logging. I'm sure there is soil amending with questionable products since it is not considered food crops. Using the word dangerous may be a little over dramatic but farming of any kind can be dangerous to the local watershed and wildlife population. Tree farms should be used to grow saplings to be transported to their life growing placement. Floral diversity is necessary for the health of the soil, water, air, planet. Eco-forestry is the wave of the future generations.
Hay Buckin'! I just discovered your channel the other day and I love everything about you and what you're doing. Thank you for bringing such passion and beauty into the world. 🙏❤️
Buckin', I freaking love you, man. I've been watching your videos for a while now as a spectator, and I'll tell ya that you're my favorite person on RU-vid. You've helped my outlook on life in many ways. Watching your videos and listening to you speak has really helped give me the drive to do what makes me happy and to find who I am so I can help others. Thanks for all you do for the people of the world. You truly are a blessing and a wonderful human. We all love you, brother.
You never know when that handles gonna break so no matter what your doing or where your at on that handle do the best you can at being the happiest helping loving giving smiling human being we can be. Blessings all
I kinda am just getting started, at 41 years old, for the past 20 years I have been in an abusive relationship with an alcoholic narcissistic woman, finally after a whole year my divorce court date is april 13th....its going to be like having a new lease on life I suppose, so the 2nd half of my life I can actually concentrate on mine and my 3 daughters happiness....I have been thru more than most relationship wise, and been thru alot of negativity, this channel has been one of the outlets that I could always count on for a positivity boost...thank ya buckin!
Wow, just reconnected with my old drummer from 30 years ago. He is one heck of a guy (good /fun drummer) He's been busy raising his 3 daughters after the divorce of his disengaged wife. Hard times can lead to happy times. Be kind and honest and your daughters will learn from your examples.
I remember the first time I put on an axe handle. It was around this time last year and the axe head was a really old one that my grandfather used to have, there was a build up of rust on it from over many years so I decided to get a handle, work on it for a few days and fit it. I gave it to my father as he was well pleased. It turned out better than I thought because I took the time on it. The important thing is to take your time when working on anything.
The "Axe Handle of Life" teaching is what changed my ways of thinking. Thank you for giving us a place to grow and learn something new. The changes in my life have been profound. Thank you.
Hey Billy Ray, I'm a 65 year old guy, retired truck driver, 42 years,( warrior years as you put it, I like that ) 4 million miles of service, living in rural Virginia. I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. I can relate to your message. I'm a little further down the axe handle than you, but you opened my eyes. I won't wait for time to take me, I'm going to take MY time and figure out what I'm gonna do with the rest of my life. Don't know how many summers I have left, but You are an inspiration, Thank You. And BTW, the young man that you speak of is my son Don Snow Jr. This is Don Snow Sr. Thank You again Sir, be safe...
Buckin you couldn’t of spoken such truer words I turned 40 last year and I have changed my life and believe it or not listening to you and a watching you there will be nothing but happiness and kindness from here on. Much love and kindness to all and do what makes you happy. 🪓🪓
Thank you for the video. This was very inspiring from me. With being 15 years old I have my life ahead of me. Thank you. Greetings from the Czech Republic!!!!
Buckin’ I am 62 this year I worked hard all my life 60 + hrs a week, now I am scaling back. I work a few hrs a week I joined the local fire dept.. it’s time to start giving back to the people of the community I grew up in and I have never been more happy ......
I’m great full to have run across such a wonderful channel. I’ve been watching some of your videos for almost a week or so now and it’s made me quite happy with the advice you give and with seeing how happy someone can truly be. Listening to you talk about axes has helped me learn more about them and I have so much respect for a hard working man who knows his way around life.
I just want to thank you for just being you. I really enjoy all your videos, such a relaxing time and such positive energy. Much love too you and Wendy. 🥰
Oh wow this guy is the man, man! Definitely a rolemodel for me at half his age. I hope to have the sucess he has aquired and by that i mean a beautiful family and happiness. I have suffered and i have struggled for the first 1/4 of my life and im over it. Ive been a lot happier and felt a freedom like never before since discovering this channel.
Made it to 50 March 31. The past 15 years have been monumental. 15 sober years. Ages 20-35 were chaos. No shape to be a father, husband or anyone else with responsibility. PTSD, drugs and alcohol with toxic relationships mixed throughout. My next 50...faith hope and love 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 do the next right thing.
Great video Buckin’, thanks so much for your time and effort 👍👌👏. I love your analogy - my warrior years were spent earning an average living for 25 years in retail, which was ‘ok’ and in the police, which I couldn’t stick. Now I earn less working with my hands outdoors 5 days a week in southern UK, maintaining gardens and trees. Me and my dog, with lovely customers that I choose to work for. I’ve never felt happier, fitter or more content. Your Axe Handle Of Life sums me up nicely, so thank you 👍.
Buckin'! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom through experience. I'm in a time of transition right now, literally driftin', with a goal in mind. I can't thank you enough for what your doing and for the community of good people that you created. Carry On brother!
This fits right here really well. Freewill - Rush '80 "You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill I will choose a path that's clear I will choose freewill" Happy trails Buckin'. Happiness is contagious.
I think I love working more now than at anytime in my life. I’m 59. Even at this time, I choose to be happy, I choose to distance myself from negative people. I’m not going to join the crowd of negative people to want power over us. I trying to love those around me, I’m trying to make someone’s day, everyday!! Thanks BUCKIN!!!
Buckin I don't think it's just a coincidence that you did this video today. You are an amazing person and I just wanna say thank you. You were talking to me I know this !! Love and kindness my friend - Michael
Always good to hear the axe handle tale! If you're makin that road trip, and you end up in Northern Alberta, coffee is on me friend!! Take care everyone! Love to all!
Happy Birthday Buckin, after 41 yrs of working for the same company covid has taken that away. But I am 62 years old and have been married to the same “wonderful woman” for almost 42 years. We have 2 great! Daughters and 2 grandkids. Life has been good to us.
I finally found this video. Best video you have ever made still to this day. I recommend you posting this is the highlight of your channel. Because this reaches out to my heart and I know it will reach out to thousands of others.
I come for the philosophy, stay for the power saw work on your channel, Buckin'. You always make me think deeper about my comings and goings and everything in between. love, andrewski✊
I have to say this is the most simple but VERY EFFECTIVE video that I’ve ever seen. It’s to the point and I do not think it can not be understood by anyone!! If so I worry about who that may be!! Awesome Billy have a good one my friend!
I did what I had to do for my family; and now I do woodworking, what I love to do.That's my axe handle. Thanks be to God-------Psalm 118:22◇----60 yrs young today.Care & share rant excellent!

i had the same morning buddy, woke up and shaved off a 4 year beard and got a haircut. Thanks for the advice, love ya brother! In a future vid could you talk about how one could rehandle a hatchet/ pack axe in the field?
Billy brother love you man. I'm 58 just coming through 40yrs of heroin addiction I'm looking forward to being clean the rest of my days. I worked hard first as a bricklayer the last 25yrs as a wood cutter. Love your positivity and zest for live. Hope you dont mind but going to take a few pages from your lifes book. Live long fella. Bless.🏴
Thankyiu buckin I needed this I’m 17 getting into tree work and you really are inspiring me and many others to make a change and be happy and make life better for everyone and happen to life Thankyiu Buckin have a good birthday on the 7th :)
Excellent example Buckin! I was thinkin you could take the axe handle theory even more literal too. So in the beginning years (where the axe head goes) is the molding years, to fit into where you belong. Then in your 18 to 50 years, running down the axe handle is the most prone spot to fail on the handle (life), it's where some people break. Then you have about 50 to 75 and thats where your dominant hand slides on the handle, and in life you get to enjoy these years and slide through. Finally we get to the end of the handle (life expectancy) and that's where we just hold on to the handle (life). As always BE KIND! 🌲
Hi Buckin, Thanks for the inspirational talk. Instead of sitting on the couch all weekend, i watch one of your videos and cant wait to get out do something to improve my life, even though i only have 1/4 of your strength and energy. Today i started rejuvenating my late fathers axe, a Kelly from Canada, which has had 50 years of abuse and will still outlast me with a new handle or 2. Is hickory the best? There are tough times coming. Anyone who sees what is happening in Washington D.C with open eyes, will know this is true. All that is need to be happy is a warm house, a full stomach and a loving family.
Love this Buckin. Thank you Don Snow for the suggestion of the axe handle of life. Thank yoi Buckin hope you had a great day out with Wendy. Love ya Brother.🌲❤🌲👊🪓
The changes I have made in my life from this teaching has been very profound. This was when I decided to change my life by not drinking alcohol. When you start to realize your own personal mortality it really make you wake up. For me this channel is more than just powersaws and axes. It's about figuring out what makes us tick and finding what makes us happy.
Hope you have a good day buckin, thanks for all the amazing videos, I really needed this right know because my mom and dad just split and this is a really hard time for me, so thank you and keep up the good work
Stay safe Stay strong Be kind Some lessons in life need to be repeated, and re-learned numerous times before it takes hold and sinks in. Learning quality skills from Buckin is a good path to choose.
I just had to say that, somehow, one of your videos popped up in my recommended videos, just a few days ago, I have no connection whatsoever to logging or anything like that. But your personality and your energy and enthusiasm are wonderful and contagious. I love your philosophy on life and love and kindness. You and I are very much on the same page. I look forward to more content and wish you all the best. You are an inspiration. How cool would it be for our paths tp cross someday? I live down here in Portland, for about 24 years, and can you believe that I have never even been to Canada?! Anyway, have a great day, and a special Easter. I'm off to go find that person that I am supposed to help today.
Thank you, I start watching you feeling angry, by the end of your videos I'm completely changed, happiness the rest of the day! I'm glad your birthday is coming. ::-)
