My parents and grandparents supported my education, and my home purchase. This has meant I have the ability to help my children. I will sacrifice to help my children in a society where they are unlikely to be able to afford their own home unless I give them their first home deposit.
I and all other parents are responsible for allowing the political class to force our children into a worse standard of living than we enjoyed. We owe it to them to try and give them a leg up in this mess of a country
Thankfully i had a wonderful Mum and Dad, and i was their world, only adopted child! They were exceptional parents in every way possible, and all they ever did was help me, to make sure i was set for the future! They purchased me a new car when i passed my test, and i had another 2 new cars over their lifetime, they also purchased my house for me outright in 1996, and they used to tell me, how i would be OK, in the future from their saving, planning, and going without luxury! I lost my amazing Dad in 1999, then i have just lost my lovely Mum this June, and i already knew what they were leaving me, i am just going through probate now! I have my own house, their house, and a very substantial sum of money in their savings!! That is what they wanted for me, and it took them some time, as only average folks with average jobs, no one would have ever known they had anything especially! I think they were one in a million type parents to be honest, and i am so grateful and thankful for the wonderful life they gave me, and making sure my future is secure!
As someone who had no leg up and no help from bank of mum or dad I find this debate laughable. All the kids getting leg ups as a RIGHT. It's not a right it's up to parents how they spend their money.
This is why those who attend private schools will always be ahead, their parents actually leave them assets to help the next generation of their bloodline.
So I guess I need to sell my home keep £20,000 as a deposit on my rented home give my kids all the rest then I can claim pension credits as I am paying rent and then get the winter fuel allowance . If I then only live on bread and soup I will be ok . Sorted. Can I point out I thought an inheritance is what comes after a death not while the owner is still alive. I of course never inherited a penny from anyone I simply worked hard went without saved hard and created a path for myself. I want benefit from the profit in my house as I am living in it and it will be sold on my death for the kids
Absolutely, what actually is kids inheritance? Other than people sitting waiting for there nearest and dearest to die,so they can have all there assets,oh and then cry because they lose some with inheritance tax on money theyve done nothing to recieve
