My Dad loved listening to Elvis's gospel albums. He said no one could sing the good old hymns like Elvis sings them. Elvis could sing anything and make it his own!
Yes yes yes!!!! His whole Christmas album is great!!!! Blue Christmas, white Christmas, O Holy Night… and another ‘Elvis spin’ is ‘Santa bring my baby back to me … if u don’t want traditional…so many great ones by him. Loved this for 58 years!!! Every year: the Pelvis and Johnny Mathis!!!
Actually Elvis was the first person to record this song back in 1957 for his Elvis' Christmas Album. It is a classic album. All the songs are great. The other big hit off that album was "Blue Christmas". I suggested before for Female Friday to do Ann Wilson's version of "Blue Christmas". Ann is one of the sisters from Heart.
I’m wondering if they were thinking they were going to be hearing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, a wholesome Christmas song, instead of this bluesy song that isn’t talking about the same type of stockings, and where the chimney means something VERY different.
I grew up singing that song in the seventies. " I hear the bells saying Christmas is near. They ring out to tell the world that this is the season of cheer!" 😊
This song was originally released by Elvis in 1957. I just checked, while the song has been covered quite a bit, I couldn’t see too many famous artist in the list. It was written by the famous duo Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller who wrote quite extensively for Elvis in the 50s. Songs like Jailhouse Rock, Don’t, Treat Me Nice, King Creole and a bunch of others. They also wrote Hound Dog for Big Mama Thornton, that Elvis went on to have a huge hit with
Elvis' Christmas music is an absolute STAPLE this time of year!!! The last 60+ years is a testament to it's popularity. He's also got some VERY tender Christmas music. Some of my favorites are: Blue Christmas. It Won't Seem Like Christmas (Without You). If Everyday Was Like Christmas. I'll Be Home On Christmas Day. & many more...
This IS the classic, considering this is the original recording of this song, the rest are imitators. This is done in a rocking blues style in 12 bars. You need to listen to Blue Christmas by Elvis.
We love an Elvis Christmas here at our house! My favorite is "Why Can't Every Day be like Christmas?" Everybody and their grandma's nanny goat has recorded "Blue Christmas", but NO ONE sings it like Elvis! "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me" is also very good!!
He does a great version of "Merry Christmas Baby" . He also does a great traditional version of "Silver Bells" but of course his beautiful voice elevates it to something really special .
I love that song...but can’t listen to it... Tears me apart... I associate it with my little brother, Doug...who was KIA in South Viet Nam, in July 1969... We expected him to be home for Christmas...
@@lauramiller1290 Thank you...❤️ Going to miss all of my lost family and friends...until I take my last breath...but that is a part of living... I have been very blessed...🙏🏻❤️
This is a definite blues sound. Elvis knew and loved the blues so he did this song. You have to hear “White Christmas” by The Drifters. You’ll remember it from the movie ‘Home Alone.’
Gospel music is also great for setting the Christmas mood. And Elvis made two great gospel records. In fact, they are the only recordings he won a Grammy for. If you want to see him sing, PEACE IN THE VALLEY, live watch him on the Ed Sullivan Show. But if you prefer the studio version the sound quality is better. WHITE CHRISTMAS SILVER BELLS I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS are warm reminders of the season. My Mother always loved hearing Elvis sing gospel and Christmas songs no matter the time of year. She said it was good for the soul. MERRY CHRISTMAS, Rob Squad !!
Elvis absolutely LOVED Christmas. My favorite Christmas song for all time will always be "If Every Day Could Be Like Christmas" by Elvis. Please, please, please take a listen even if you don't do a reaction to it. I promise you won't be disappointed. ❤
Elvis' Christmas Album, released in 1957 was great! "Blue Christmas" is the most famous, "Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me" and his version of "White Christmas" is a fun listen.
You’re thinking it two different songs. This was written specifically for him. The one you’re thinking of is the Christmas standard “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”. This is straight blues.
I'm raising my hand too for "Blue Christmas". Elvis's Christmas music was a staple in my house growing up and I still love to hear it. I don't think you would have heard "Santa Claus is back in Town" by anyone else. It was written for Elvis and he sang it. I have never heard another version. God bless you, but just like you said once that harmonicas are used more in bluegrass, I knew then that you'd never heard bluegrass. I've been a bluegrass musician since the age of 7. I started playing with my family of musicians on stage at the age of 8. While people will whip out any instrument when they're sitting around jamming, I've never in my life heard harmonicas used in bluegrass recordings. Although I'm sure somewhere somebody has. I love ya'lls channel. I don't want to be a downer either. Sometimes i have to just stop watching, because I wish you'd give a little more effort into accuracy. I wish you well.
I would agree. I just take into consideration that they're young and maybe didn't have the exposure most of us did growing up. Like when she said "jazzy". We all KNOW it's bluesy. It's part of their charm that they're somewhat unaware/unknowing....
I think everyone is mistaking this song for Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Two very different songs. Mariah covered Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and someone else mentioned Bruce Springsteen, but, again, he covered Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Just pointing that out. Also, for a good bluesy version of this song, Brian Setzer Orchestra covered this. Not as good as Elvis, but good all the same.
That's what I was thinking as well. I had actually never heard this song before till Kurt Russell sang it in The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix. He did a very good job with it as well
Thank you! I was concerned that no one noticed. Haha! I honestly have never heard anyone cover this one. I’ll have to give a listen to those you listed. Thanks!
The Elvis Christmas album is the first one we listen to every year and is in steady rotation till the new year. Your kids will love his version of Winter Wonderland especially the end. Thanks for playing the King.
Elvis has a great “Here Comes Santa Claus”, best known as performed by Gene Autry. Elvis’ “White Christmas” is very different from Bing’s, but stylized after The Drifters’ version, which Elvis would agree is the version you should do (instead of Elvis’). “Santa Bring My Baby (Back to Me)” is great, and “Holly Leaves and Christmas Trees” is also great, showing that some have a tough time during the Christmas season.
This was written for Elvis in 1957 so he was the first to record it, this is the original, the flip side to the single is another original 'Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me'. Also check out 'Blue Christmas' in fact the whole of his Christmas album is brilliant
This was definitely boogie woogie piano and rhythm and blues jazz like rock-a-billy Elvis on this one!!!! Hahaha One of the all time best Christmas songs ever!!! Love it.. and truly loved your reactions!!!!
Another suggestion for an Elvis Christmas song is "I'll Be Home For Christmas". Also, you've yet to react to one of his greatest love songs. He released "Love Me Tender" and "Loving You" early in his career and those 2 songs made millions of girls and women swoon (and probably a few members of the opposite sex, also).
I have his Christmas albums, and love his version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas". I know Jay & Amber reacted to Bing Crosby's "White Christmas, but Elvis managed to put his own spin on the classic song, giving it a bit of an upbeat tempo. It's my second favorite version of the song. And my favorite movie soundtrack of his is from "Loving You". I fell in love with Elvis at the tender age of 4 (1957) ! My mother bought that album and would play it for me often. At the time, my favorite track was "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear". As I got older, I came to appreciate the other songs, my favorites being the title song "Loving You" and (my favorite to this day), "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You". I still have the album, and about 15 years ago, bought the CD to play in the car. It's still one of my favorite albums of all time.
@@sharonh951 I'm a little older and can remember his 1st tv appearance, on the Louisiana Hayride. Both of my parents liked his music a lot, so we grew up with it. I'm looking forward to Amber's reaction to "Loving You" and "Love Me Tender".
Blue Christmas is a must, Santa Bring my Baby Back to Me. Here Comes Santa Claus. Elvis was so talented and like no other. He sang wonderful gospel. Word was he really wanted to be a gospel singer. Check out "Peace in the Valley". He did not limit his recording to one particular style. He could sing anything and it would be a hit. There was only one Elvis. Won't ever be another.
Oh love that you discovered Elvis's Christmas music!!! Its the best. His Christmas Albums are the bomb!!! Blue Christmas is a classic!! Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me, Here Comes Santa Claus are all great. The Christmas classics he sings like Silent Night and Silver Bells are super special too!!
Christmas Songs Suggestions: The Waitresses “Christmas Wrapping” Trans Siberian Orchestra “Carol of The Bells” (Jordan you’ll really like this one) Joni Mitchell “River” Judy Garland “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”
I love Celtic Woman ‘s Christmas songs. Especially their Little Drummer Boy & Carol of the Bells! The fiddle player blows me away during Carol of the Bells, she’s amazing!
Check out Bruce Springsteen’s take on “Santa Claus is Coming to Town!” It’s awesome. Another good one is John Cougar Mellencamp’s version of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”
Another song of his is "Why cant everyday be like Christmas". If you get the chance take a listen to The Eagles "Please come home for Christmas " they do an awesome job.
What can you say about Elvis that hasn't been said? I haven't run across a video of you two watching Elvis doing 'Trying to Get to You' Black leather, just sitting on stage with other musicians. I think he even blows them away when he starts to wail. It's a must-watch if you haven't. I haven't gotten through all your reactions yet, but I'm certainly enjoying what I have seen. Your honest, open-minded astute opinions are appreciated by an old music lover such as myself.
Definitely Blue Christmas is a must. My mother was a huge Elvis fan and I still have all her vinyl LPs. As much as Elvis was the King of rock and roll, his gospel and Christmas recordings are my favorite.
Anything Elvis is awesome , but I agree Blue Christmas is a must listen to from him, thanks for the great reaction . Love your channel y’all always make me smile 😊Good vibes and good people.
Elvis said BLUE CHRISTMAS was the favorite Christmas song that he recorded. Elvis loved Christmas. Elvis' Graceland estate is lit up with blue lights every year at Christmas.
His versions of “Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me” and “ Blue Christmas” are two of my favorites! For Female Friday: Grown Up Christmas List by Amy Grant; Underneath the Tree by Kelly Clarkson;
This is Elvis' best Christmas song. It's my favorite and Elvis said it was his favorite in the sit-down sessions footage from the '68 TV Special. He was recording a Christmas album in 1957 and needed another song. Songwriters Leiber & Stoller, who songs include "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock," wrote this song within minutes and Elvis loved it.
That was great! Another female Friday Christmas Song, try Brenda Lee "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree". Your dancing girls will love it. We played it every Christmas Eve with my girls.
From the musical Meet Me In St. Louis, Judy Garland singing (to Margaret O’Brien) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. It always brings tears to my eyes! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CreWsnhQwzY.html I love that movie!
Don’t forget Elvis also sung “Blue Christmas”! Another holiday favorite! Elvis is so versatile (from gospel to rhythm & blues, to rock, to even Christmas music)! That’s why he’s called the King of Rock & Roll!
