Agree, please do every song from this special because this vintage Elvis with his original band when it was all about the music before Colonel Parker led him down a road of commercializing Elvis and taking the soul out of his music. Please no 70s fat Elvis in the white jump suit live performances. by this time he was drugged out and phoning his performance in and the masses still ate it up. 1956-58 were Elvis' golden years and the special brought all of that back.

Yup. "Trying to Get to You" from the Comeback Special is a MUST. As a die-hard Elvis fan since his beginning, I always imagined (during this performance after having not performed live for 9 years!) he was reliving (in his mind's eye) many of the moments of playful fun and excitement as he and Scotty Moore (on guitar) and Bill Black (on upright bass) were "fooling around" in that little Sun Recording studio creating music that would take the world by storm. They were just youngsters with no idea they were making history. If you haven't seen the Baz Luhrmann biopic, "ELVIS", you're missing out.

Elvis wasn't King of anything but recording other people's music. He couldn't write a grocery list. No talent hack. He made it to fame on his looks and his ability to read and play sheet music with a criminal con artist for a manager driving him harder and harder until he dropped dead.

The king of what? The king of exploited and overworked pop stars with crooked managers? Elvis was a victim of exploitation. Parker should have gone to prison for fraud long before Elvis died. He'd probably alive and kicking at 88 years old if he hadn't crossed paths with a con artist.

Elvis reunited here with Scotty Moore who also played guitar on the original recording back in 1954 when a young, inexperienced Elvis walked into the studio and started singing his favorite R&B, blues, and country tunes. The recording of this song is the one that first caught the ears of the public in and around Memphis and set him on his way.

Your comments about his voice are spot on. These days singers can get away with being not so great and still sound good on recordings because there's a lot of studio tricks and technology that can be used to cover up shortcomings. But back in the old days that stuff didn't exist so a singer had to actually sound good live in person or they would not sound good on the recordings.
@jayceewaldner8505
@jayceewaldner8505 9 месяцев назад
🙌 exactly, that’s spot on, I say that all the time. Anyone could appear to sing well, even if they’re not that good, with the technology we have today, but back then you actually had to have talent to be famous. Also, I’m not some old person that’s saying this just because they miss the old days so they hate this generation and insult todays music. I’m saying this because it’s just the doggone truth. I’m a teen that wishes she was born decades earlier🥲

This was the first song of Elvis’s to ever be played on the radio. As we know, in the south in 1955, everything was segregated. The DJ in Memphis made sure to ask Elvis on the radio what high school he went to. His answer to the question was sort of code to let the listeners know that he was, indeed, a white kid playing a rhythm and blues song. Different times. The bad old days, I guess you could say.

That black leather jumpsuit is my fave outfit and this whole 68 Comeback special is just awesome all around! I agree that you guys need to do more Elvis live - you really get a better feel of just how powerful his voice was as well as his playful side that comes out during the lives … Devil in Disguise is a fun song … here are some others Moody Blue Rubberneckin If you asked me to I gotta know

One of the best live performances was his concert from Hawaii especially the song American Trilogy ❤👑🙂

You are right about the 1973 Aloha concert. I was there n sat 3rd row center n couldn't take my eyes off of him. I was 21 n even jumped up on my seat n thru him a kiss n he winked at me. American Trilogy shook the whole venue like an earthquake. I never met Elvis but was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend for years after Elvis died. You Gave Me A Mountain was another favorite n Steamroller Blues at this concert

@@susancrouthamel760 good to know that you were there. It had to be an experience. I also liked it was in the prime of his white outfit period. Those outfits were so cool. He's definitely one of a kind

So glad to see you reacting to more Elvis. I remember being glued to the TV and watching this with my family in Dec 1968 when I was 8. My mom, older sister, and I all loved him. Definitely live performances are best because you get to see his personality shining through in the performance.

As hard is to believe. This is from his 4:31 68 comeback special! He didn’t have confidence that he still could perform live . Like that was ever in question.I was about 7 yrs old watching this in 76 with my dad . He gave me his love of music!

His comeback special was absolutely great. I have watched the show multiple times in my adulthood. He engages the audience so well and he has a great sense of humor which endears to the audience as well.

Old school rockin blues. This was a kind of return to who Elvis originally was performance, a reprieve from his Hollywood soundtracts that were anything but inspiring!

It was Rockabilly. That's a combo of C&W and up-tempo R&B.
