"State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced all Oklahoma schools are now required to incorporate the Bible, which includes the Ten Commandments, as instructional support.
A memorandum was sent to superintendents across the state.
According to Walters, the mandate aligns with educational standards that were approved in May 2019 and all districts must comply."*

the first sentence in the first amendment says, It forbids Congress from both promoting one religion over others and also restricting an individual’s religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assemble peaceably and to petition their government.

I copied the Federalist papers into Microsoft Word, did a number of searches on the text, and saw not one reference to the Bible. Nor have I encountered it at all so far in my reading of James Madison's notes of the debates at the 1787 Federal Convention at Philadelphia, where the Constitution was written. So much for the Constitution supposedly being based on it.

Well, the teachers can just use it as fiction because the Bible is right up there with "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." When Cenk said “You want the kids to read all the religious texts? Good luck with that strategy” it could not be more true. When I was young I had a mild but present belief in God. When I started to read the different religious books at 13ish I literally did a 180. The more contradicting info people can delve into, the higher chance they’ll realize none are true.

It would actually be excellent if kids studied world religions in school. It would expand their worldview by introducing questions of philosophy and ethics, reduce intolerance, and teach valuable information about the forces that have helped to shape our culture. Even if you hate religion, you should still know about it because religious history has an impact on the way you think today whether you like it or not. The problem I see here is that you really need to be expert in any scripture to teach it appropriately. You need to know the original languages, know the historical context, have good discernment, and apply non-judgmental critical thinking skills to an ancient text. It's no easy task and I don't trust school teachers with it at all. The Republicans just want to enforce conservative ethics, not convey actual knowledge or expand the conscious. It will be brainwashing not study.

I am having images of the Native boarding schools where we were told we had to follow the bible and we could not speak our language or follow our spiritual teachings. We had to kneel on broomsticks if we did not. We lost our hair. I don't think Jesus the person would appreciate that these people worship the black book.

After Grandpa passed unexpectedly, my grandmother had to take work as a seamstress, working for a white family’s clothing business. But her two young daughters, my mom and aunt, were almost forcibly put into a convent school setting, because the authorities said a widowed “indigenous woman” (they didn’t use that term), couldn’t possibly raise two children herself. That so-called education messed up my mother for life. My aunt less so.

And the Europeans ,Spaniards England and France called them barbaric, look who is the Barbaric not the Natives they take care of the land! And actually they are closer to God then we are because they almost had it right there had to be a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins like the Jewish people did they sacrificed a small animal and they had to have the animal a whole year! The Puritans were a nasty group they wanted to kill the Native Americans so they made up these stories that the Native Americans were demons from Asia( Red skins) they weren't human, so they could kill them freely without a guilty conscience! I guess they didn't believe in the Thou shalt not kill commandment!

It's simple, any KJV, nkjv, esv, nasb, ampv, etc.. those are all similar Christian Bibles that convey the correct message regardless of any slight difference in wording it. The Catholic, Mormon, Jehovah witness, etc.. are their own version of the Bible or their own books.

In one state a parent tried to ban the bible (they were banning other books due to sexual contents, and the bible has many such passages), but of course they did not ban the bible and continued to ban other books, the reason for all of this is that they are simply flexing power by trying to mandate these new rules, to show you who is in charge and has the last word, it's not very American thing to do. Also it's better to teach the bible through a bible study program, they can go more in depth in the meanings of the passages.

The pledge began in schools around 1892 this would qualify it as historical. Unless other major events such as WW1, women's rights movement and the great depression don't count as historical events and those took place post 1900.

Hiding behind calling it a "tradition" to not be in direct violation of individual rights. Bibles back in school, however... Requiring teaching of dogma, and doctrine will prohibit teacher developed (or adopted) curriculum. Dogma inhibits critical thinking, encourages compliance and adoption without question. Possibly acceptable in Oklahoma, but don't allow these "uneducated" citizens to roam the nation with nothing but a diploma...and a sidearm!
