Oklahoma has passed a law giving students permission to ditch school in order to learn more about the Bible.
But Satanists are ready to offer their own classes as part of a program called "Hellion Academy of Independent Learning" (HAIL).

I've met plenty of conservative Christians who don't believe Mormons or even Catholics are Christians. Those people could actually benefit from a class on the history of Christianity, in my opinion, but my point is that there are plenty of religions that conservatives would have a problem with kids being exposed to. And kids in school are absolutely going to talk about and compare one program with the other available programs that their friends are in, so if schools are forced to allow more variety, then their Baptist or Pentecostal kids are going to hear about alternative views.

@@CheckmateSurvivor I grew up in a Baptist church that taught Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christian and the Unitarian Church is for agnostics. Christian Science is atheist. All of them will not be saved because of their false beliefs so we shouldn't associate with anyone with those beliefs (unless the purpose is to convert them). There are people who believe Catholics aren't Christian either, but even if they are, they're still going to hell for their false beliefs. Any religion that baptizes babies, includes robes for anyone other than the choir, or doesn't believe in the Trinity is going to hell. There's a reason why there are jokes about a separate section of heaven so Baptists can believe they're the only ones there.

This is nuts. To give some additional perspective, my spouse grew up in a Muslim country. Even there, school was kept separate from religion. The only impact Islam had on school was the fact that school days were a bit shorter on Fridays (for all students) so that Muslim kids could attend official prayer services that day. But no pressure was applied to attend the prayer services, kids who weren't Muslim could do whatever else they wanted to do, and no school credit was offered for religious activities. If even an overtly Muslim country can manage separation of school and religion, why can't we in America do the same?

The concept of Freedom of Religion allows people to practice and live out their faith as they see fit. For a sincere person, this will color their entire life and existence. You people have been taught nonsense. None of the Founders could have envisioned a society in which Christians are lectured on civics by atheists...much less a society in which Christians passively ACCEPT said lectures...The nation you were taught about NEVER existed. It is merely the ASPIRATION of a handful of social pariahs...
@mikehart5619
@mikehart5619 Месяц назад
I would definitely have no problem with that. There is no school in the US on Sunday, Christmas, or Easter. In one district where I worked, we were dismissed for two of the Jewish holy days because we had a large population of Jewish students. I would have no problem with Muslim students being excused early on Friday or if we had a large number of Muslim students closing school early on Friday and going an extra hour on other days. I think we both have a problem with what Oklahoma is doing to let students miss some regular classes like PE, music, art, or whatever class they miss. There are plenty of hours to do religious stuff without cutting into the school day.
@nicked_fenyx
@nicked_fenyx Месяц назад
@@mikehart5619 Exactly. Arranging the overall school schedule to meet the needs of the majority of students who attend there is totally fine. Allowing kids from one religion to skip regular classes in order to attend religious services they could easily attend outside of school (and giving educational credit for those services) is a whole other issue. My mom used to teach music in the public schools. With all the other ways music programs get the short end of the stick in most school districts, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to prepare your students for concerts, etc if half of them missed three out of every five classes - or more, if said music class doesn't meet every day and the kids choose to skip it whenever it does meet. Talk about setting both teachers and students up to fail... It's crazy.

But a good sized chunk of kids come in more than half way into the class, and they have the loudest, most obnoxious parents, so you can't "their choice, too bad, so sad," .... you have to teach the material the next day. And if you're teaching 5 sections of the same topic, trying to keep everyone synchronized, then you'll suddenly be impacting (in my case) 63% of the entire freshman class, nearly two-thirds of the freshmen impacted just because a handful of "haves' want to "have it all" This school year has been a nightmare with horrific changes to our school board. In elementary they would most likely pull students from the specials & recess. So music, PE, art, library, & recess. Kids missing library aren't missing a book being read, they are missing digital citizenship, media literacy, & research skills! Recess is missing unstructured playtime, social time, & energy dispersion. PE they miss learning how to play structured games, follow rules, negotiation, & team building. Music & art are important for other skills and knowledge to help students be a well rounded individual. This is just one more assualt on public education.

She figured nobody did much learning the last day before winter break anyway. As for why it was a religious activity well... 1. Trekkies have rituals regarding the show. 2. They gather in common areas to discuss and enjoy the program and films. 3. There are 'holy texts'. 4. You can seek moral guidance from Star Trek. Ergo, Star Trek fandom is a religion.

None of this skipping other classes when you felt like it to get your indoctrination, it was an elective like many other things. The building was a walk across the parking lot but still off campus (but only just). So it was much better than what the OKies just passed. At the same time, it USED TO BE that kids got school credit for seminary and the credits would count towards graduation. Then some kid failed out and didn't graduate (he was skipping class) and there was a lawsuit. The UT supreme court said "Nope, no credit is allowed" so the heavily-Mormon school districts (or the legislature) changed the graduation requirements and lowered the needed credits from 24 down to 21. (Not sure about the actual numbers; it's been too damn long!) That apparently passed court approval and is what I dealt with: going to 6 classes per day instead of 7, and an hour of seminary per day.

If parents want their kids to study agriculture to help with the family farm, why do you have the right to impose your beliefs upon someone else’s kids. If you don’t want your kids in the class, we are not forcing you. Thanks for the information, I need to find and donate. Feel free to support ideas you believe in, please kindly let others make their own choices.

When I was a kid, we had Religious Release time, but they had to be OFF PROPERTY. But they would not allow them to take us anywhere, so they brought trailers and parked them on the street. They were set up as a classroom. You had to have signed parental permission to do it. This was ONLY once a week. And yes, I lived in a very blue state. I was so ignorant that I went to the Catholic trailer by accident. The Nun had to walk me over to the "other" trailer. LOL I think that model with the addition to a Red and Black Satanic trailer would be EPIC.

If I lived in Utah I'd have a hard time NOT wearing a t-shirt with "F-ck the Church Elders" on it.

My elementary school also had Religious Release time, off property,, and in trailers on the street, and I also lived in a very blue state. There was one trailer for Catholics and another one for Protestants. This happened twice a week. Almost everyone in my 30-person class went to one or the other trailer, leaving us four heathens (Jewish kids) behind in the classroom, where we had to do classwork. What was most upsetting to us "left behinders" was that each Religious Release child returned to the classroom with a bag of goodies... candy, coloring books, toys... which they would never share with us. :)

Canada is not safe from this, it’s just not as blatant. But if you do a search for times where child protection services had to intervene with sects/cults where kids are cut off from any real education, you’ll find stories.

I bet there aren’t many teachers’ unions there, either. My union would not allow this 💪

Wow.... they can attend Bible class on the weekend. Or after school if they wish. Nothing wrong with getting some religious education....after your required public schooling. But to excuse students and give them credit for it 😂😂😂 😮

Curious to see how many kids will actually go to these. I probably wouldn't have skipped class in high school to go to one, but then I was one of those weird kids who was an atheist and someone who cared about his education. If you're a current high school student reading this, I don't know what things are like for you now, but when I was your age, being curious and intelligent were not considered "cool" traits by my peers. I hope this is no longer the case for you.
