Just if anyone is interested: The red sign at 1:17 says "Hohe Leistungen zum Wohle des Volkes und den Frieden - vorwärts zum 11. Parteitag" which means "High achievements for the good of the people and peace - forward to the 11th political convention". (The mention of "high achievements" and especially the use of the words "Volk", "Frieden" and "Partei" make me sure this building is located in former East Germany.) Great video! Thanks dudes!

Still of the late days of that complex - the sign at 11:25 gave it away as being located in former GDR territory, where DM has only been in common circulation from 1990 to 2002. Yet most of the interior is from before that. From the looks of the surroundings in the beginning, I'd say it's probably located in one of the free states - Thüringen or Sachsen (Thuringia and Saxony).

Another fantastic video, how the hell do you guys not have millions of subs? No fake enthusiasm (your genuine enthusiasm is more then enough) no fake drama, no pointless cinematic shots, and most of all you keep the focus on the explore instead of hamming for the camera half the time. And the title isn't some click bate BS. Everything we need to enjoy this place and nothing we don't, unlike a certain other explorer. Anyway, keep up the good work guys.

I just read the Wikipedia article about the old castle and find it pretty sad, that it has changed owners twice withing the past 15 years and nothing was done on this piece of history. I first wondered if this was West- or East-Germany, but thankfully you showed some books that gave closure and then some of the interior made it clear and I got a wave of nostalgia. I even had a similar armchair and have one of those bowl from that "kitchen" area. As a child I slept on these three-piece mattresses and even have some of those colourful summer blankets. Gosh, I wish I could visit this place. Also those super old basements were originally food storage, due to the temperature down there that didn't really change. You can still find super old buildings/houses with basements up to - or better said "down to" - three storeys deep. Btw, the padded door was not part of a padded room. The door to my school's principal had the same kind of padding. It was meant to muffle sounds from inside enough, so no one could hear what was said in front of the door in the hallway. It was probably an interrogation room.

you can actually see it used to be an old fortress. Right in the opening shot there's a small room poking out of the wall in the first floor towards the yard . That was once a chapel. This is due to Medieval building "laws" that stated you could not have any other rooms above a chapel (no one shall be above god), so they let them stick out of the wall so they were allowed to build another floor above

Hello please wear some boots and have a respirator, first-aid kit, gloves and wellies in your kit you keep in your car. I've probably said before I'm an RN & done SAR, USAR in the military... many urbex places we used to give paranormal tours in the Baker, mainly for the paranormal. At any rate a 1cc syringe needle can go right through the sole's of sneakers. Black mold is bad & even worse it's an airborne toxin that could lead too serious respiratory problems or fatal. I've seen it first hand while doing an investigation.... the member of our crew now has HEP-C from a junkie's needle. Not tying too preach to you guys... Just food for thought and seen the bad side of things... This is stuff you buy once and want people who do this safe. Cheers ~B mysticghost or MGPI

6:30 These "jammed" typewriters are actually electrically-powered. A motor spinning provides power for the typing, carriage return, etc. These reduce the force required for typing, and produce more even-looking work (since the force is the same each time). And they're really fun to type on. A pretty good hint at being electric is the lack of a carriage return lever. Also the "mask" taking up the space between keys is common on electric typewriters.

I recently met up with my psychologist in an old Victorian building - once used as a rehabilitation house for those suffering mental illness, now used as a place where people come and go for therapy. I commented on how beautiful and huge the building was and she explained that everyone who works here will be made to leave by December. They came to work 3 days ago and found out the building will be demolished. I asked why anyone would want to demolish such a beautiful building such historic architecture and my psychologist explained it would cost more for the health service to revamp the place than it would to build a band new clinic. Such a shame!

Love your videos, you produce some great work. If I was 30 years younger I would probably try doing some of the same. Closest I came to it was exploring a British military nuclear shelter dating from the cold war. I went there with friends and much to our surprise found that a small brick building was unlocked. Inside was a flight of stairs going down into darkness. We came back with torches the next day and went down. At the bottom of the steps there was a bank of consumer unit switches, one of my mates flipped the main switch and the lights came on. There were offices and a room of around 30 army bed frames, lots of lockers and a room with around fifteen old Teletype machines and a 1:50000 map of the south of England covering one wall. We got a fright when a noisy compressor started up. It was part of the ventilation system, There were kitchens and empty store rooms. One friend picked up a phone and there was a dialling tone. The layout was a large tunnel with in an O shape with rooms off of it, there was also a large cavern cut into the chalk that was unfinished. Oh the map of the south of England had printouts pinned to it with estimated casualty figures in the event of a nuclear strike. A couple of years later the site was sold to a wine merchant for use as storage cellar.

You know what I love about this abandoned building. There's barely any graffiti. This place has people passing through it day to day and yet people are so much more respectful to the structure than other countries. Literally the place still looks intact, there's still fancy antiques inside the building, and people haven't destroyed the place. In the U.S. this place would be terribly ruined. There would be graffiti, everything would be stolen, and everything would be destroyed. It's just heartwarming and reassuring to see that other people from other countries can be more respectful.

It's probably mentioned somewhere here in the comments, but that typewriter, I believe it's a power typewriter to keep from wearing you out if you had to punch those keys over and over all day, before the first consumer computers. Good work. It looks like some people have been filming short films as well. The placement of signs suggest the place might be looked after casually by the community for historical purposes. They might have tried operating it as a museum of sorts too. Nice piece.

The secret dungeon or whatever you called it around 2:45 seems more like a coal chute room. makes sence with the pitch fork too

Another great explore from you two. You got some really artistic shots in this place and gave a really good sense of how this place once was. I swear that everything more than 60 years old has been painted that particular shade of turquoise at least once in its life. I loved the old carriage and the plants growing inside...Nature softens everything in time. Thanks for sharing this.🖤🇨🇦

Wow! that place is cool, even though there was a lot of pain there. It's nice to see a place that hasn't been a spray-painted with vile graffiti. Great video.

I think you found art supplies. The jars look like they have pigments in them. Beside them are bags of plaster and clay.

Its funny how the contrast is so extreme here: These days they regulate absolutely everything that comes in and out of a prison and a prisoner can not have anything in his cell that can be a weapon of any kind back then they had straight up glass in their cell. crazy

Someone is obviously using this as home. Given the furniture, paint and light fixtures-it Almost looks like it doubled as a nursing facility at some point. Unless this was a correctional hospital type facility. What I would give to do this. For me, the history, the moments and the memories is what I love about it

I find the folding cell beds rather creepy. If you notice the pipe on the wall that the piece you folded it up with... It goes outside the cell to a bar to lock it up in the folded position. That's just... Odd.

That bottom room at 2:50 most likely used to be a magazine storage if it used to be an old fortress. Because all the magazine storages I've seen have had a rounded ceiling

This really reminds me of the Kolej russian barracks I explored in the Czech republic! There were padded doors there too but I think it's something for higher ranking officers. There was also a soundproofed room with a painting of the Russian historic timelines in the standard three colour style. I enjoyed your vid as I do many others. Keep up the good work!

A padded door with a cutout for a sharp steel handle is completely pointless lmao
@JeffDeWitt
@JeffDeWitt 5 лет назад
Or not. The padding could be just to keep noise in. While I doubt the padding we saw has been there that long this IS an old German prison, and for a while it was controlled by the Nazis. God only knows what kind of evil they might have done in there.

That table with the bowls reminds me of the German tradition where you set out bowls on Christmas Eve and the parents fill them with candy while you sleep, so you find the biggest bowl you can!
