That prickly fruit is called Salak.. native to Java and Sumatera, Indonesia. The scientific name is Salacca Zalacca. We do have them in Sabah. The fruit has a sweet sourish taste and can have a tart taste too.
Congratulations on hitting 9000 subs Taylor , I remember when you were at 900 subs, its great to see your channel growing .thanks for always posting great vids, Malaysia is A Beautiful country .
You are taking us locals round town, Andrew. Showing me more of my own city. I must get out and see some of these places some day. I am especially interested where there is food. You are very adventurous! Take care. Safety on the road. ❤❤ "Hati-hati di jalanraya" (hati means heart). Here it means "beri perhatian" or be careful.
My mum used to shop here when I was in my teens when we moved from Malacca to Kuala Lumpur in 1964. I haven’t lived in Kuala Lumpur for 45 years and thank you for these great videos you’re making on Malaysia .. I really enjoy your comments and places you show us ..
In addition to being KL's largest wet market, Chow Kit Market is also considerably less expensive than other wet markets in KL. Before it was transformed into the souvenir market as it is now, I used to do my marketing at Central Market in the early 1980s when it was still operated as a wet market.
Oh Chowkit, my childhood playground. Yes you should check out the night market; it's happening. It has changed a lot actually. Tapestry is near Doraisamy. Not fond of driving here. I always have parking problem around this area. Heritage row was red brick terrace lots on bothside of that road. It's pretty old. It had a wonderful character that has been lost. Yeah, it's open mostly at night. Anggun is pronounce like Rangoon without the r. It means beautiful.
Hey Taylor , thanks for all your videos. I’m vegan with my partner so the wet market video was funny. We eat to stay healthy and don’t mind if others eat meat. You won’t find us chained to a steak house protesting. Lol I would love to retire in Malaysia one day. Thanks again for your fun videos
Thanks Andrew, I guess I know where to eat when I visit KL. Looking forward to see more of KL from your eyes. I lived in KL for 25 years but too afraid or too lazy to explore.
Scotland Calling!😄👋🏻 Great walk about into the Chow Kit area. It felt we were walking by your side n being shown another older side of KL! All very interesting! 👌🏻💓👋🏻
very much enjoyed this tour Taylor. Thanks so much for sharing it. P.S. Oh and I always love seeing glimpses of your Vespa, the scooter I would definitely purchase should I move to KL.
Thank you Taylor. I go to KL frequently but only ever stay in Bukit Bintang. I'll be there in July for 10 days so I'm certainly going to make an effort to go to Chow Kit. I too loved the look of the market. I hope you've been back since. Cheers John
Wow ! Thank you for doing Chow Kit video, I have not been there since 1984 n when ever I came back to Malaysia for holidays, friends and family said please don't go there,it is not safe, now that you been there,I must make an attempt lah....
Hi, the area that you eat is call Jalan Doraisamy. It use to be clubs row. Now full of restaurants and cafes. By the way, Chow Kit Road end the four juctions near where you park your bike. It boader with Jalan Sultan Ismail(heading to Bukit Bintang), Jalan Doraisamy(heading to Kàmpung Baru) and Jalan Ampang(heading to KLCC and Embassy Row)...heading home😊. Red light Chow Kit was near Jalan Raja Laut. Now no more due to night market operated. Have fun riding and stay safe❤.
103 Coffee (near Tapestry) has one of the best coffee. Something local, Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock has nice nasi lemak. Something of Chinese Kopitiam is YutKee. Of course, interior wise, ambience, Tapestry is nice.
I havent been there for a few years ..look like a lot of changes ..nice if you to shoot the part of the city that expatriates tend not to go....brave of you too regarding the smell of wet markets in my beloved country...
Wow, I grew up in HK and even i have NOT seen cow heads in a wet market. 😅 That would be unnerving, chicken heads and body parts ok. 😂 We missed the Chow kit wet market etc this last time so we'll have to check it out next time God willing. ❤
Do you have any plans next weekend? I will be visiting for two weeks. Just staying in KL over the weekend then going north to Penang. I am Canadian (51) and I have a Japanese wife (52). We now live in Cairns, Australia. We are doing a bit of a reconnaissance mission to look into early retirement options. Happy to shout you for a bit of tea (In Aussie, btw, tea means a meal and a shout means it is in us!).
Thank you it was nice video to see open market fresh vegetables and fruits and all local restaurants also it looks safe to leave your Vespa in the street and no one touch it not like in USA hahaha 🤣🤣😂.
Mostly the workers in the Market are Foreign workers, but the stall must be owned and licensed by the locals. That's is the T & C in Malaysia , that's why you see a lot of Foreigners selling the Stuff over there. But mostly can at least understand English.
Actually, the actual Chow Kit area is where Jalan Chow Kit. Tapestry, The Row and all those nice cafes and restaurants are actually in between Bukit Nanas, Kg Batu & Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
Next to the chow kit market is the largest Sikh gurdwara in Malaysia. You can enter the gurdwara and they provide free capati to its visitors. It's free entry
After all the time in KL this is your first time to the Chow Kit wet market? Hey, I know where you are. I stayed at the Sheraton in January for a week. I moved around to different neighborhoods over the course of a month's stay. Look up to see the Sheraton sign...the row is right there.
Not far from Chow Kit market is Kampung Baru. (New Village). A malay village in the middle of city. You may try the famous Nasi Lemak Wanjo. Among those who had visited this village are the late Queen Elizabeth 2 and Muhammad Ali. From Chow Kit you may enter this village through Jln Raja Bot, Jln Dewan Sultan Sulaiman.
Chow Kit no interesting thing. Go China Town lol. IKEA interesting, good canteen food. Klang (Bak Kut Teh), Steamboat/Grill Buffet. Perak State (Ipoh) Lots of eatery Buffet Steamboat/Grill RM$49 (Eat all you can), Dim Sum (morning), Lots of food court local street food. D'Laksa: Best Adam Laksa Noodles (Aeon Mall)
Hi Taylor, I haven’t watched your videos for a little while ! Now I’m catching up 😮, love this tour , not so sure about the wet market!! dry market and veggies 🥕 looked great . The trendy restaurant row looks really cool 😎, will have to check it out 😊 come along 👍
