The 1921 Remington Portable Model 1 is a notable piece of typewriter history, celebrated for its compact and innovative design. Introduced in the early 1920s, this model featured a unique four-bank keyboard, which provided a typing experience similar to standard desktop typewriters, and a distinctive fold-up mechanism allowing the typebars to be folded down for easier transport. Made with a sturdy metal frame and high-quality components, the typewriter was both durable and lightweight, weighing around 8.5 pounds, making it ideal for on-the-go typists such as journalists and writers.
In this video, I'll take you through the complete process of disassembling, cleaning, polishing, and painting a 1921 Remington Portable Model 1 typewriter.
Thanks for watching!

Amazing restoration job. More amazing is how you remembered where each part belongs and how you reassembled the typewriter. I bet you studied it carefully before taking it apart, and that the trickiest part is reconnecting the keys to their proper places. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work, and very impressive when you consider how many parts a typewriter has.

the professional knowledge and skills regarding typewriters can be seen for miles, but from my point of view you could do something exceptional with this restoration and it didn't happen. You took the power of the black color, some parts could be painted much better, including the grading could be something superb, the keys could be brought back to life with oxygenated water and UV treatment, the outer box replaced, and many others... Overall OK but could do something great! I hope you will pay more attention to the details in the future, they make the difference!!!

I owned one of these back in the early 70s. Can't remember whatever happened to it. Hopefully I gave it away to someone who appreciated it. I like the white; in the book, Cheaper By The Dozen, a Remington typewriter painted white was mentioned. Now a real nostalgia trip for me would be a Royal Model 10 Standard (1930s). I overhauled mine myself and it got me thru seven years of college and qrad school.

I should also add that both of my parents worked for Remington Rand, and I did too, for a while.

Excelente restauro . Em 1974 fazia essas reparações nas oficinas Remington na cidade do Porto em Portugal. E , posso realçar o seu excelente trabalho. Muito bom. Eu só nao alterava a cor. 😂

Why would you paint it white? Remington painted it black because they knew that, with use, the typewriter would be covered with black ink particles from the ribbon. Poor form to change color in a restoration elsewise…

My dude. If you can do this, you earn the right to paint it whatever fucking color you want. I’d love to see a deep red.

Oh my god, this video is awesome. The number of parts a typewriter has makes me appreciate it even more. I'm a huge resident evil fan & having used a typewriter in my childhood made me feel really nostalgic throughout the video. Also, the restoration is amazing. You did an excellent good job. Earned yourself a new subscriber. Ps. I don't know if you know anything about resident evil, but would you know what typewriter is used in Resident Evil 2 & 4 Remake?

Shame on you painting it white! You have ruined a true vintage Remington. Worthless now for any collector. Pity!!! Would have done better just to clean it. Barbar...
