Wow, thats pure ingenuity. Turning an old battiery into an empty box for a new battery and solving the environmental problems of flushing acid and throwing lead and plastic on the ground by a label in the video saying "be cautious on battery waste". When bilding such a lithium battery, a proper box or housing usually would be the cheapest part.
@@Snowaxe3DObviously I am from a part of the world where we do not promote it as an ingenious idea to poison the water we drink and the ground our kids play on. Of course we do a lot of harm here to the environment too, but does that mean we have to like it and do it for no reason?
I made the same project for my car battery last year using the same old battery case. It have 16 cells inside, about 12volt 20ah enough to crank the car for about 8 times in one session. The performance was much greater because it didn't slowly discharge like lead acid and it cranks smoothly. I used special BMS that can support up to 800Amp (as per seller claim). You idea of only using active balancer was good too, never thought of that. You should properly dispose the old acid to protect the environment. I kept the old acid solutions inside my empty shower bottle. You can use them later on for plating purposes. The lead also can be melt and recycle for other suitable DIY project or sell them to recycling center.
I will actually use it on a spot welder, that's why I don't use BMS and put voltmeter.. but yes it really good battery replacement on our car battery..
@@aznative_ so far so good. No modification done at all on car alternator. I'll share some quite ugly pictures of the battery before the new modications to beautify it. ru-vid.combauGhizjiIY?feature=share I totally forgot to snap the 'after' pictures and video of the new modifications. Sorry for that. Hopefully I'll upload that in near future.
For how much amount such a battery 12v,100 AH can be procured with complete address of the person/ shop from whom a fully robust battery can be procured.
Be cautious on battery waste? Dump the acid on the earth. lol ok Kudos....Great work.. Glad to see you using what you learned about electronics....Creating is living...
Shows you have intelligence with knowledge. How much did all the materials cost including the hardware? How long did your battery last when driving? Did you have any problems of temperature and shocks of the car shaking it up? How long and how did you keep it charge or how long did the charge last? Keep adding your videos. Well done.
Battery last while driving? It cannot be use. Because unlike lead acid battery, lithium battery cannot tolerate all the Heat from the engine and will quickly damage the battery.
Nice, if you put the empty case in the freezer for a few hours the cell dividers will shatter like a piece of glass, almost. Side cutters will clean up the edges. I put 1.2 styrofoam in the bottom 12v22ah sla battery. Screwed the lid on so I can reuse the case down the road.
In certain countries, you can cut one open and dump the old contents anywhere, making the project viable. But you can only do that in Europe if no one sees you, like fly tipping.
Great Build. If I may add, LIPO is not good when exposed to heat for a long time, engine bay is not a good place for it. I would relocate it to the trunk for batteries longetivity.
Interesting but I wonder was it worth the time and expense, also a couple of things I noticed, the charge controller doesn't seem heavy duty enough to replace the power used, the other is that those wires to the terminals don't look thick enough to carry the 100A+ the starter needs, I suspect the whole thing would go up in smoke if fitted.
Looks like a nice project but question is is it cheaper to make one or could you just buy that unit already assembled most people don't have the knowledge to do what you do I think Safeway would be by unit intact
I'm happy you didn't use the ordinary 18650 but yes... I doubt these batteries will suit the requirements of most 12v appliances, these batteries have a huge voltage range, you probably need a lot of diodes and boost converters for it to suit an inverter or smth but again.. because your application is a spot welder ig it's fine
I have Minder RC DH30 Max with the highest capacity and it can weld 0.2mm pure nickel strip at highest setting but i had to do a small change. When i was spotwelding my battery pack for portable speaker, the board just started smoking. Than i discovered, the manufacturers does not know the ammount of current going from the battery, via the traces on the PCB to the leads. You need to add a bit of solder along the entire lenght of the traces, positive, negative and MOS's. The you'll be safe to solder but i reccomend to spot like 15 spots and then wait a bit for the temp go down. Otherwise you could destroy it. I don't know the other spotwelders but this one from alliexpres doing its job like it shoul be.
@@samohraje2433 thank you for the response! For me it seems you show two different spot welders the one you build it with and then another one you plug to the battery at 08:15 Which one do you consider better? thx
--- Did you really wash away the old acid with a water hose? I am shocked. --- Hast Du die Alte Säure wirklich mit einem Wasserschlauch weggespült? Ich bin fassungslos.
There is no need in it - this battery will die before it will need a balance :) It’s to hot under there, it will be overcharged, vibration. All of this will this pack quick enough and hopely won’t explode/burn.
Theres no way those delicate connections and microcontrollers would hold up to an automotive application. The temperature extremes and road vibrations would kill it pretty quickly. it would need to be an vibration isolated reinforced circuit and enclosure. not to mention like others said... just use another plastic box. no need to pollute and use a car battery shell.
Lithium batteries aren't high amperage drain batteries either. More of a deep cycle steady drain battery. They do sell Super Caps that work with your Lithium battery and will store the surge needed to crank a car.
In everything you said, nothing is accurate....for the temperature, there is a solution you can put inside your car or you can put a heat absorber around it...for the vibration, there is no problem as long as you are properly positioned inside of the container and it doesn't move, I'm sure the wire and batt cells won't be damaged ... as for using another box, you'll have a hard time molding a container while the container of your old battery is already molded into your car... The circuit that you are talking about has specs, all of them must be correctly installed, there is another 200AH that can be purchased and the one that is installed is an active balancer for each cell so that the charging is equal in every batt cell norhing more nothing less....you have many problems, all of them can be solved.
Paraguay.
Many questions come to mind, does it recharge with the alternator? Does it get hot? how long does it last using headlights and electronic components in the car? does it work on winter/cold/snowy places? is it reliable for long trips... 🤔🤔
Idea to convert old Lead -Acid battery case into a new case for Lithium Battery is trustworthy. But, in video, no description given for viewers how to assemble. Lithium battery needs a good BMS. Wherefrom BMS is available not defined. And the battery's capacity, voltage, etc. not presented. So it is unacceptable for many.
You will fry your alternator if you charge with it. Too small internal resistance. There are ways, though. Try searching "charging lithium batteries with an alternator" .
