Such a great track and amazing album, start to finish. Really Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo & Michael Wilton at the peak of composition as a band. While i love Empire, the feel of this album just never gets old and is the one i go back to the most often. Chris doesn't get enough credit for his vocal harmonies with Geoff, especially live. My college roommate and I had the deal on this one that I'd buy it on vinyl, since it was available first at Tower Records and then he bought the CD a few days later, just so we didn't have to wait to hear it. Such a hard album to pick one track from with it being such a great concept with most tracks leading into the next. I guess I'll have to listen to it again on my drive home tonight! :) A favorite deep track off the QR EP is The Prophecy, if you are looking for other QR down the road - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AxVmkmNcAi4.html Thanks very much for the reaction!

Let's talk about how prophetic this album was. As I told my nephew this month, this band described the intersection of fake news, cult of personality and anarcho-revolution driven by a generation lacking vision and turning to drugs and violence and demagoguery. They literally described our current state 30 years before it happened.

I disagree with one thing. This might have been moving toward their commercial peak, but this band brought it from the very beginning. Prophecy, Queen of the Reich and, especially, The Lady Wore Black, from the EP, are as good as any songs the band ever put out.
@Downstreamphoto

Such a great blast from the past, you are right this song flows into the next. This whole album is a concept album that flows from song to song with no real breaks between songs. This was a big part of my soundtrack of life back in the late 80s.

Eddie Jackson is one of the most underrated bassists in metal much less in general. His Spector NS-2 with EMGs sound set the tone for heavy rock ever since.
@donaldwrissler9059
@donaldwrissler9059 3 года назад
Don't forget his background vocals too. Many Ryche songs would not be what they are without his harmonies in the low/mids and then Chris's high harmonies. I always lusted after a Spector and never could afford one BITD, but then it would have been wasted on a guitar player.:)
@lockstar169

Chris DeGarmo has called what Eddie does as "Ed World". Spector through an Ampeg. You can't lose with that combo. Rivals early Geddy Lee or Gene Simmons for tone \m/
@rogerj7327
@rogerj7327 3 года назад
Back in the day, I would've sold my soul to have his bass sound. I actually contacted Spector to see how much it would cost to build me a left-handed version of his bass,, and (if I remember correctly) the quote was close to $6,000.

I'm no composer, sound engineer, mixer, or musician, but this album is perfectly mixed so you hear everything so clearly. The song is great as a stand alone, but to be truly appreciated, it needs to be listened to in the context of the whole album, as it is a chapter in a bigger story. When this album came out, my friends and I listened to it non-stop for a very long time. Musical genius and perfection.

No, that would be Streets by Savatage, also a rock opera (The proper term for this type of undertaking). It is also by a Prog Metal band, but a slightly better one.

Eddie and Chris actually do most of the high harmonies. They both have very distinctive voices and can get really high, especially Eddie. I've seen them live MANY times. I'd give anything for a copy of the separated tracks of their songs.

I'm not 100% sure about this recorded version, but I can confirm that Eddie Jackson (bass) sings most of the harmonies and backing vocals live and on many other recorded tracks. He's an amazing bassist and underrated vocalist. #edbass

The comment you made about a well rehearsed solo made me think of Bob Rock busting Kirk Hammett in the studio about is very unremarkable solo on Unforgiven. It is HILARIOUS. As a guitar player, I about schitt when he said what he said. It was SO on the money. You will relate, as well. If you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth the 5 minutes.

Eyes of a Stranger was also a big one for them off that same album. Funny you mention Zappa, The guitarist Denny Walley taught me how to swim when I was a kid by throwing me in the deep end of the pool !! I asked "why did you do that" when i got to the side of the pool and he said "See , you can swim"!! LOL My Godfather Don Hanover raised and sold rare parrots from his parents property in Encino. He has sold birds to many people in bands, actors, etc..... Some was just business, some became friends and Denny was one of them. Great guy from what i remember of him.

iirc Denny Walley got kicked out of Zappa's band for being too good

@@ba_charles I only remember him cause of the pool, had he not done that.. I would have never known who he was. I only remember seeing him 2-3 times at parties when i was really young. Hard to miss his huge head of hair.. pictures do it no justice! lol

Keep in mind that ALL the guys can sing!! Michael Chris also share vocal harmonies. Thats what I love about this band ... they show such passion and if you really want to feel that look into their live performances 🎭 just wow. Yes other members share vocals with tate but everything centers around tates main vocals.

It's a shame that original members can't get along anymore. They were top notch musicians.

Queensryche is full of killer baselines, absent in videos and cheap stereos. Headphones a must.

Loved Queensryche- Operation:Mindcrime is the best Rock/Metal concept album, hands-down. You gotta watch the concert video of the whole album, played in order, telling a story. Awesome stuff.
