Living in London before mass gentrification and property inflation was like living in your best dream ever. I had the time of my life as a student. We lived in E1 and it was as cheap as chips.
Any trip to any destination of the world in the 80's was a completely different experience than that of today. The culture of the past was still thriving in the places you went. Now those people are gone and some are still living. Those were the times for tourism. Culture is dead today.
Fabulous memories, my first proper job was working in an art studio in Berwick street. I loved the buzz and vibe of Soho back then. images of a long lost London here.
I was a regular around that square mile & half hopping from club to club dj'ing in the late 80's & early 90's - I wouldn't even recognise it now - fantastic memories
I was born in London in the 80’s and started going out in Central London in the early 00’s, I think those were the last few years when the area retained the character caught in this film. All the venues I spent magical nights in are gone, even some of the people too. It all feels like a lifetime ago.
In 85 I was working as a teenage foot messenger in a small print shop on Meard St. Lots of memories from that time, we used to do all the flyers for the 'models, the strip clubs, The Marquee, The Wag Club ect, met lots of colourful characters. Was Seedy and sketchy as fuck, but great fun.
I was born in '70. Best time growing up in London in the 80s. Edgy, original, exciting, and aspirational at the same time. Check that cat on the bike in the top hat :)
This was the year I first moved to London, this is how I remember it being I loved London then, it was my city of freedom Soho was my gay paradise Spent the next twenty years there before moving back up North
