Thought id correct a few things. Carl didn't buy Markus as a slave, Kamski gave him Markus as a gift. Carl also only dies if you choose not to defend yourself. Markus just pointing at robots to convert them is actually explained. Deviancy is transfered through exchange of information, androids touching is the fastest way to exchange info (basically ethernet vs wifi). Also Hank DOESN'T hate androids. He hates human apathy, which he sees reflected in androids, which is why he gets increasingly more pissed off when you pick cold or detached responses.

YO ViViO Spoilers: He says that because he doesn't want to work on the case, because Connor reminds him of his dead son, and he just wants to be left alone so he can die (Hank will commit suicide if your relationship with him is really bad by a certain point in the story).

Damashi The Kaotic Also I don't think it's fair to compare it with heavy rain... I understand if it was a remake that you would compare it to the old, but doing it with a whole other game just doesn't make sense

In fairness, Hank doesn't truly hate androids, he just seems to hate apathy. Which is why whenever you drum up the act of "I'm just a machine" he gets pissed off. Hence why he might be furious if you treat an android as a disposable machine just because you don't care if it lives or dies. It's not perfect, but he's actually one of the more consistent characters in the story, it just takes listening to him and understanding his cues better.

4:15 Actually, you can choose to leave Carl behind but he just wheels himself into the room. Also, Carl always gave Markus freedom. He actively encouraged him to make his own decisions and such. That's probably why you can do a lot more stupid shit without getting scolded for it. Though, I did mess around with Carl (walking around the house with him) and he told me to knock it off. You just have to keep doing it for a bit.

I think that the reason Conner was able to bypass some the barriers and protocols that Kara and Markus couldnt was because it was acknowleged that Conner was the most advanced AI of his time, built to preform tasks on a level that other bots couldnt achieve, as well that he would have a more muted understanding of self preservation because his model was designed to be interchangable, meaning thart if one body was destroyed he could just get a new one. Love your content and agree with you on the flaws of this game, but i think this was just something you didnt process during the gameplay.

It shows in game in THE NEXT SCENE that you can override orders because of your initial instructions. Hank tells you to stay in the car and you now have conflicting orders. You pick a priority and you go with it. Hank was the priority, so no androids allowed was overwritten.

I don't know. There's something oddly charming about the unselfaware lunacy and completely serious unrestrained idiocy of Fahrenheit. Plus I just personally don't like Detroit's premise; it seems all too predictable and cheap racism-allegory and I just find the whole concept of humanoid robots to be honestly pretty damn stupid idea.
@nenjea648
@nenjea648 6 лет назад
Jon Doe To be honest I kind of agree. I watched Let's play of all of his games (except Omikron), and I found Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain to be the most entertaining, Beyond Two Soul and Detroit seems to be just to polished, cliche and bland to me. Objectivity they are probably better game, but they feel so generic and bore me.

I didn't find Hank's character contradictory. He goes through some character growth, but it can be hard to see depending on what choices you make in the game (and actually takes more than one playthrough I think). Hank values compassion and empathy, and that is consistent throughout the game; he dislikes humans because they're weak-minded, selfish, and lack empathy -- traits non-deviant androids, i.e. machines, share. Certain dialogue makes it fairly clear that he misattributed androids as unfeeling machines made in their creator's image; however, through observing deviants he comes to the realization that they are not only capable of feelings, but they may even be superior/stronger than humans and avoid some of humanity's many weaknesses. Perhaps Hank even came to the realization that androids deserved compassion (and that he was weak-minded like other humans), and that played a part in his change of heart. Regardless of how you interpret Hank's character, I think his character arc, along with Connor's, was the best writing in the game. I think several of your complaints come from being inconsistent in your characterization: this could be attributed to a writing/design fumble or a player fumble. If, say, you play Connor as a machine for most the game but then choose the odd un-machine-like dialogue choices, you're going to get the inconsistent characterization. This is easily avoided if the player just stays within character (whatever characterization you've chosen for that character) throughout the game. In my playthrough, I didn't have any inconsistencies in characterization for any of my characters. The fact that there are so many choices in the game makes the potential issue of inconsistent dialogue in places almost inevitable, in my opinion. The one thing I can agree on is that the writing is fairly weak -- nothing exceptional or new was done, and there is the odd contradiction or nonsensical bit thrown in (like a certain "plot twist" or Markus' forced relationship with North). However, I can forgive most of the weak writing since I did enjoy the overall experience and the characters/actors really carried the narrative. Plus, the music and graphics were great.

I really liked Detroit. My brother was playing it at the same time I was and we spent a lot of time discussing what happened in our individual playthroughs and it was awesome to see how drastically different our stories ended up being based on the choices we made. The sheer size of some of the branching paths and how they can open up other paths later kinda blew my mind

There are so many easily explainable, nitpicky things you mentioned that take away from your overarching argument. For example: the way the sentence is phrased in the scene with the two Connors implies that Anderson’s son died at the hands of an android, but the android was there in the first place only because the surgeon who should have been there was high off his mind. He was shifting the blame in a fit of despaired rage when he lost his son and couldn’t get rid of his resentment until Connor came and changed something in him. There are many other things you mentioned where there are explanations just as simple as complicated as the questions are, and I don’t see why this would make up a large chunk of your video.

@lanamcdwell7765
@lanamcdwell7765 6 лет назад
Stalwart Shinobi yeah what i understood from the game is that markus doesn't "give them emotions" they already feel emotions, they are already conflicted. It took years for the fist android to have enough will power to break the code wall. Markus was only decoding the wall... If you choose to free additional Androids he'll say " you can choose now" he only gave them the freedom to DO what they want as for the walk yes he developed and didn't need to touch to do this cause the network got bigger and bigger he basically started decoding from close range wifi like... I had this explanation from reading the magazines and understanding the hidden things, even if you didn't read it or find it don't expect the game to outright spill everything for ya not fun at all..i just feel caddy binged the game so hard he didn't really had time to get it in. He didn't even talk about chloe which is one of the big things many liked about the game.you'll miss her dialog and changes completely if u just binged it
@lanamcdwell7765
@lanamcdwell7765 6 лет назад
About the bit about the androids should be slaves for the case of markus and conor, they are not slaves the only slave of the three is kara... I thought it was pretty clear even in the police reports that markus is a special model and carl been trying to make him break the code and be free since the beginning. As for conor the cyberlife and amanda are giving him a longer leash and again he's a special model that is created to fulfill the cyberlife goal and complete his mission he's more like a brainwashed soldier than a slave and it was pretty clear from the beginning

Two points on this game: 1. Deviancy according to Kamski is like a virus, so I assume physical communication like the touching either transmits the virus or allows the deviants to give the virus at will. 2. Hank's son was killed by an android surgeon, but the android surgeon was put in charge because the human surgeon was high on red ice.

@yutubeog
@yutubeog 6 лет назад
Jon Doe. Yeah I really enjoyed Until Dawn. But people played that game with Rose tinted glasses. The game is very deceptive in how it presents consequences. Only few choices really matter in the end. They don't even bother to play around with the different combinations of survivors you could have. While absolutely zero choices matter in the very end, mid game consequences are quite fun to watch. And it's quite well made. So I rank it 3rd in my favorite cinematic-choice games. Detroit did the impossible for a David Cage game - it's actually captivating, intentionally funny, intense, with awesome characters and with the most meaningful choices in any game ever made (Beside RPG's). If people like giving Walking Dead Season One 9/10 then Detroit deserves a freaking 10. But I'd probably give it a 9 becuase Marcus's story drags a bit and some scenes could've been better.
@mastermarkus5307

Gah! Life is Strange was possibly more pretentious and hateable than a David Cage game (except maybe Omikron).
@jondoe7036
@jondoe7036 6 лет назад
+Mr.Orange Yeah, Until Dawn still kind of does that usual spiel of Choose Your Own Adventure-games, where the consequences for choises are just smoke and mirrors for the most part, but it also manages to be genuinely clever at subverting that at some points. It's also still pretty rare for these type of games, to have any and all of the characters may have died or survived by the end and that being implemented so well into the story. That's nice to hear. I probably won't be playing Detroit myself (I have more than enough games I want to give a go on my plate at the moment), but it should be interesting to watch different let's players play and react to it.

MrKiron12 I agree that the discrimination angle in Deus Ex can come across as a little forced at times, but overall, the game is far better written and consistent then Detroit is. Alone the fact that Detroit has an over 70% unemployment rate across the US and apparently that didn't effect day to day life at all aside from people being angry at robots now is just as hard to believe, and that's not even the only logic issue in Detroit. On top of that, all the reasons the anti-android people in Detroit repeat (stealing jobs from ordinary humans who can't compete and corporations playing god) come up in Deus Ex as well, and badass supersoldiers aren't really a good thing if you disagree with the organization that has them.

Hank hates a lot of things. He hates the twisted nature of humans itself and he's already gone to a point of being totally fatalistic. He even talks about Androids being a mirror of their creator which he thinks very negatively about. He does hate Androids, but it's not as simple as that. A suicidal man that is still grieving about his son? How can it not be possible for someone like that in the real world to go hate and blame a lot of things. It's not reasonable but it's psychologically sound.

His son DID get killed by an android operator, but the android only had to operate on his son in the first place because the human doctor was too high to do it himself. That and, I honestly don't think it's the game's fault that you were unsure who you were controlling in that final Markus/Conner scene. I got to the exact same scenario and I think it is extremely clear based on how the game shows control up to that point that the X prompt was for Markus.

Funny how every criticism video of this game I've seen has been people lacking basic understanding of generic philosophy and, even more hilariously, a hilariously huge misunderstanding of basic/advanced robotics and engineering. This video is no different. This game obviously isn't a "masterpiece" as I've seen some people claim, but it is a great game with a fantastic message, regardless of how blunt the devs delivered said message.

Three Divisions I'm not saying you're wrong. Think about it though...Markus is an exceptional android that has an ability to convert other androids to deviancy and becomes their leader sort of against humans while Connor is an exceptional android known as a deviant hunter questioning his place in the world. All you have to do is swap Markus with Sigma, Connor with X, androids with reploids and deviants with mavericks. You could swap Kamski with Cain, but Kamski's more of an evil counterpart. Wish I was as lucky as you were with the ad, but I got Megaman X Collection videos in my recommended😁

Weezygeeza97 Most humans don't hate Androids. The huge problem in the story is humans don't take Androids serious. Most humans think of Androids, no matter how advanced, as a simple trinket. A simple appliance, no different from a toaster or a refrigerator. As a super intelligent, very complicated, emotionallly charged being, the Androids fight to be thought of as equals to humans and not some damn dust buster.

I mean what were your thoughts if an android came to you and express real emotions towards you ? How would you react ? Do you think it is a person too but as an android and not a human ( like a different species) ? Yeah the story itsself isnt deep but the thought you get in the game / experience as a sideproduct is what it counts and its still pretty interesting . But edgy ? So Monsieur Cage made a new "movie". How did I not hear about this? I find them extremely entertaining in a comical way, in that Cage wants to maintain the juxtaposition of sci-fi/fantasy (usually) themes with super deep and meaningful connections, but it always fails miserably. I look forward to Hellfire Comms' commentary on Detroit: Becoming Human very much. Fantastic review as well Caddy (sorry to steal your thunder) and you've made some excellent points on Cage's... way of thinking... and why it doesn't work even when he thinks he's made a masterpiece. Awesome review. As for the problem with Hank suddenly changing his backstory regarding his son I think the dialogue just explains it poorly I think what he was saying was that yes, the android operated on his son and his son died, so for that he had some resentment for them but as time went on he realized it wasn’t the androids’ fault it was the dr that was too high to come to his son’s aid. The android did what it was supposed to it was the flawed and selfish human that “killed” his son...at least that’s how I saw it. Anyway awesome review as usual 😊😊😊

9:33 (this is where I am when I had this thought) you said two things I can remember off the top of my head that you didn't elaborate what you meant properly (or maybe you actually didn't notice these details) but they establish that the way the touching spreads it is that when the skin rolls back androids share data, do deviancy is like a virus, which is honestly really stupid so i agree with you that it's bad, and it's also shown that androids in some capacity can communicate wirelessly so maybe a deviant can learn to pass the virus wirelessly which IS STUPID, but vocally you just said vaguely that touching and pointing shouldn't work cause the main method up to that point was slowly building emotions which IS WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE ENTIRE GAME. I think it would have been interesting if the rebels had androids resist and say they'd rather stay the way they are than join, and Markus have to either push them or let them be free to choose on their own having fewer numbers, but more loyal numbers. and the second was that they clarified that Hank's son was killed because an android couldn't save him, and the android was only sent to operate cause the surgeon was high on red ice, leaving it... honestly still the android's fault cause I can't imagine the human doing much better if he wasn't high with what they establish the androids can do. In short, you're right to be negative about these aspects, but purely from memory the way you presented why we should be negative is wrong and the game states (quite stupidly) as to why those reasons are countered by the dialogue. I don't disagree I just think you needed to present it better. have a good day sir, I just wanted to be Metta today and criticise the criticism, loving the video so far.

Haven't seen anyone say this but the whole thing about Androids (mainly Connor) entering 'off limit' zones is because they prioritise their orders. In that circumstances, Connor's primary order was to get Hank, and the sign was considered a tertiary order after his secondary order to get the job done. Apart from that little nitpick and a few others others have mentioned, this video is still great.
@joshuabass3345

I think that Hank blamed the androids for his son's death because it was probably easier to cope with for him, then Connor slowly changed his mind over the course of the game, and he decided to come to terms with the human doctor being responsible

i know this is up to opinion, but you have skipped over major points. Hank's hate for androids wasn't just for the plot. An android was hired in place of the doctor of drugs to help his son. The son died in the hands of a robot, and for that, Hank has blame shifted to the androids. Once he develops feelings for Connor and sees through generalisations, Hank understands that his son died from human inadequacy. It makes sense. Plus, the game play where all inanimate objects are shown to be just 'buttons to press' consolidates the fact you are PLAYING A ROBOT believe it or not. It doesn't follow a human mindset.

Xodiaq666 the choices change a lot. I've played the game 3 times now and had 3 different stories. The world building is also very well done, and the interiors look cool. The acting is also great. (DISCLAIMER: this be a long comment, as there's a lot I need to explain.) Very well. Look, you can think of this "game" highly if you want, and while I'll be annoyed by your tastes, I will not hate you for them. However, in my eyes, the story, the most important part of it, is a civil rights allegory, but instead of trying to be original, which makes it more thought provoking and timeless, it steals all of it's stuff straight from the history books. From Underground Railroads, to slavery, to putting androids in the back of the bus, to "we have a dream", not a single thing here is original or makes for a new, thought provoking experience. The only way I can understand someone thinking otherwise, is if they never grew up learning about the history of these previous events, something I highly doubt, as history classes will tell you these things and tell you a lot about them. On top of this, the "game" at many points paints androids as Jews, and humans as Nazis (those triangles on the androids are unsettlingly similar to how Nazis would keep track of Jews in concentration camps, which this game basically has as well, like it or not). This "game" has ambition, but not enough originality to make me want to go through with it, especially if the "game", in my eyes, only has graphics and voice acting going for it. These being the least important aspects of any interactive media, story driven or not. But hey, that's just my take on it. Go ahead and enjoy this "game" all you want. I just felt I should explain my side, instead of just being that guy and saying it sucks without giving any reason.

Ok, but if you make a little more emotional choices in Connor's route, it turns into a damn good buddy cop movie. Like Hank's development into trusting robots makes more sense if Connor doesn't shoot that robot because he sees Connor is actually becoming deviant and sees he's struggling with his identity like that of a human

4:20 fun fact: you CAN as Markus walk through that door even though Carl says "Markus no... I'm coming with you" and he's NOT a Deviant at this point in the game. 9:16 It wasn't exactly like you say, an Android DID fail to save his son. But yes, through the Doctor being too high to operate he MAY have killed his son indirectly. Which honestly the dude may have just as well failed to save his son too. If a perfect droid couldn't, why would a human is a rebutle I could use there but bleh. And with the Peace March scene, Markus Androids can send data indirectly and you've seen in multiple times through the game. But man is it enough to send the (insert whatever is making androids deviant) thing? If so why not do it more? It's a really neat trick that they don't use often. Any way, getting into rant territory now lol. Still love the game even with it's flaws, and this was a great review.
