Harry Styles in his "As it Was". It sounded so familiar to us because it reminded us of the 80s alternative sounds we loved. This guy produced records and had never heard Harry Styles. He heard of One Direction before, but never heard their music.
It is so fun introducing people to modern music and finding out that they actually like it. So fun!

This album is so different than HS1 and Fine Line. He brings a completely different sound (very 80s) and I think it was a big risk for him, but it's Harry, so it works! The whole album is phenomenal. He just keeps getting better and better.

Harry said it’s about metamorphose, leaving the old you behind, letting go and moving on as you learn and take new paths forward - so I guess his joy at the end was about getting off that thing going round in circles and breaking free of the old you, things change and we do too, it’s not the same as it was. Thanks for this video, btw try Harry’s “music for a sushi restaurant”

Thanks for the reaction!! I’m 43 and I love his music! I feel the song is a self reflection. Like maybe he was stuck for so long and now he’s free to be who he wants to be and make the music he wants. His whole album is amazing!! I think he’s grown so much as an artist and I’m here for it!

You two gentlemen should listen to the entire album. Fantastic. One of the songs, Music for a Sushi Resturant is like the 70's with the horns, etc. He likes 70's older music and pays homage to it.

Excellent video! This is actually my first time seeing you guys… and actually my first time hearing Harry Styles on his own. Gotta say super awesome! And it has the vibe of that good ‘80s synthy pop… loved seeing the reaction, and yeah, something about that ‘80s sound sure carries a nostalgia even if this is a modern song. Definitely going to check out more from Harry Styles, and you guys have a new fan, too!

Harry is a music nerd. I can’t wait for his 4th album. It’s hard to guess what music style/genre he’s gonna go for next. All his new albums are so different.

Me: a woman older than both of these guys watching them because I’m a recently converted diehard fan and can’t get enough. lol. This song is about personal transformation (not a relationship with someone else but his relationship with himself). He’s letting go of his old self, it’s sad, scary, but this happens when we go through a transformation, but generally we end up in a happier place, which is where he ends up at the end.

Regarding the harmonies, you should listen to his other song from this new album called Boyfriends (there's a good video for The First Take project, check it out some time :) ). He's so good and he's a definition of old school, I love it about him :)

I think you were right about another meaning of the song. I also see it being represented in the video either, like at first Harry is spinning in this wheel with a girl, going through ups and downs, meeting different people. But in the end he gets to spin on his own, so he sings that in this world we only have ourselves. Guess the video has a happy ending, so being by yourself doesn’t seem that bad :)
