Ms Lori. I am 76 yrs old and I have never heard of a blackberry jam cake. You taught this old girl something new. I will be trying this cake soon. It looks amazing. Thank you for all the wonderful recipes you share with us. ❤
I am 73 years old and i have this blackberry cake recipe that was my grandmother made at Christmas time. I always asked for this cake for my birthday cake..I love this cake. I have try a lot of your recipes they remind me of my chilhood...thank you ....may God bless you and keep you well.
Maybe Lori will be the next one Mike Huckabee (he was a Governor of Arkansas ) will have her on his show, he just had Brenda Gantz on today, she made her biscuits.........she made the men happy.....LOL
Holy moly. I have lived in Arkansas my entire life, been to more church potlucks and family reunions than I can count, and have never heard of a blackberry jam cake! I feel cheated! LOL. Will definitely have to give this one a try.
My Great Grandmother who was born in 1900 used to make this cake when I was little!!! It was one of my absolute Favorite cakes❤️😊she also made a hard caramel glaze to put on it...SO GOOD. Thanks for making this today!!!! Glad y’all are up and doing great!!!
Thank you for this recipe. I bake it this morning, using my dewberry jam. I baked it in a Bundt pan with the walnuts chopped small. It is so good! I love to find new Bundt recipes and this worked out great.
I know it must be irritating for your clock to chime when you're trying to make a video, but I love the sound of it. I actually find myself listening for it during your videos. A gently chiming clock has always been a comforting sound to me.
@@WhippoorwillHoller I love your clock chiming!! As I have told you I have many chiming clocks. For the most part I don't even hear them anymore. But when one of them is stopped and needs winding I can tell. I think it's a very comforting sound!!
@@WhippoorwillHoller I love your clock. Ithink it's cute how you stop for it to talk then go back to what you need to say. My Aunt and uncle moved to US from Germany brought theirs with them and when your clock talks I remember their grandfather clock.
@@WhippoorwillHoller Believe me, it's not nearly as loud on the videos as it is to you being in the same room with it. It's just a soft background sound that's part of who you are and part of your home. And you KNOW we love that! God bless you both for sharing yourselves and your life with us.
Hello from KY ❤️ love you and your channel.Glad Mr. Brown is better. My mom made a jam cake off a recipe that was in the courier journal,Mrs. Creason in lou ky.She made it for folks it was so good.Had strawberry and blackberry ham, pecans and walnuts buttermilk etc.Her icing would always get hard and you could actually peel it off the cake. Her cake was a purple color as well. She put raisins too.l have the original copy I intend to laminate it.It was from the 1960s.Yours looks good and I know I would rather have your icing😊. Your mixer looks like alot of trouble. They should have made adding ingredients easier with a space so you didn't have to lift it each time.
My husband would have LOVED this cake. He would have said, for the BlackBerry jam, to leave in the seeds! Thank you Miss Lori for another great recipe and a sweet memory. ❤
Thank you, Ms Laurie!! What a beautiful cake and easy recipe to add to my file box. It's gorgeous, you had me druling over the frosting, lol!!😂💗So I can't wait to taste it with a cup of hot coffee, sittin on the porch with my hubby 💓
My mom, who was born and raised in Arkansas, used to make this cake, and I know she got the recipe from my grandmother. My mom died when I was in my twenties. I am 63 now. I am so excited to try out this recipe. I'm sure it will bring back memories.
I’ve never heard of it but can’t wait to give it a try. Hi I’m Darlene from Souper at 60. I’d love to have you join me in my kitchen sometime. Lord bless 🇺🇸❤️
My Mom always made Blackberry Jam cake for Christmas. I could just smell that cake when you were baking it ! She always used dark brown sugar, black walnuts, and raisins. My Mom passed away in 2008 at age 95. I haven't made one for a few years, but I use English walnuts, raisins and light brown sugar, but next time I'll try it with dark brown. Thank you for the good memories.
This brought tears to my eyes. When you put the frosting on it brought so many happy memories. I was born and raised in Owensboro, Ky. and this was a family favorite(especially holidays). My Mama made hers at Christmas. It wasn't Christmas dinner without it. My Grandmother also made a prune cake that was the best ever. I tried several times to make it but mine never turned out like hers. My Mama, Grandmothers and Aunts all made jam cakes. Someone brought one to every family gathering. Thank you for this presentation!
My mom and I make the Jam cake every yr for Christmas . Then we save a quarter of cake to freeze to eat for Christmas in July .What Precious memories I have and thankful shes still with me .
I know. At first o could not figure out why she stopped talking🤣. Hi I’m Darlene from Souper 60. I’d love to have you join me in my kitchen sometime. Lord bless 🇺🇸❤️
Thanks for the “ déjà vu” moment. I went to my recipe box and found my husband’s grandmother’s recipe. She made this cake every year. We laughed that it weighed10#. It was amazing. This year I will make it for my family in her honor. It is a variation of your recipe. She added golden raisins, coconut and marshmallows to her frosting. It was like candy!!
That looks sooo good. My grandmother used to make a blackberry jam cake. I didn’t have the recipe but now I do. Thank you so much for making this cake. I’m going to give it a try. It’s good to see Mr. Brown up and doing well. God bless you both!
Truly "sweet" memories! I am 72 years old and my Mother used to make this cake every Christmas and for special occasions. We had a big family and everyone came for Christmas dinner. I can still remember how we all hurried to get a slice before it was all gone. It is such a moist and flavorful cake. I still have my Mom's original recipe and it is much like yours. You don't see many people making these today. I enjoy your channel, thanks for sharing. God Bless, Linda
Lord , there’s got to be a way for you to send me a piece of that cake. Where is Mr Brown ? He needs to test this cake, and tell us what he thinks. Lol
@@WhippoorwillHoller so thankful for the heart. Other commenters mentioned Mr. Brown and praying for him. Dear Lord, Miss Lori, I'm Hoping and Praying it's not he's hit with the virus or had a stroke. Hope it's just a bout of aches down in the back maybe over did it on the farm. Never met y'all, but love you two to pieces. Got some friends in AR want to visit sometime and hope be able to give you a big in person hug. You're such a blessing to me.
I just love watching you and Mr. Brown on your homestead. I love that kind of life. I’m learning all kinds of stuff!, from baking to cooking to planting and canning! I’ll be talking to you.
We make this during the Holidays usually between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It gets wrapped up in aluminum foil then put on a cake stand with a lid on top. It has to sit in a bedroom closet for one or two weeks to mellow out. We are so excited when it comes out. Our recipe uses seedless blackberry jam I really enjoy listening to your RU-vid posts!
Never heard of putting it in the closet. My mom would make it Thanksgiving and put it in the refrigerator until Christmas. I'm going to try it this year. Wish me luck.
What a beautiful mixer!!! That is so stylish & classy!!!! The digital timer & light is such a smart addition!! What a amazing privilege to be asked to demonstrate this!!! Cake looks amazing by the way! ❤️🤍🖤💜💙💚💛🧡
In KitchenAid and Bosch mixers the paddle attachments are normally used for most baking purposes. Whisk attachments are used only for whipping liquids like egg whites and heavy cream.
Yummy! I love everything you bake, cook etc. The music you play really makes me feel this melancholy.....a longing for something, someone or somewhere. I wish I had a soundtrack of this music.
Oh yum! Blackberry is my all time favorite! I bet it would be good too with apricot or peach. All these good recipes you show is what has got me on my way to being as big as a house! LOL
My sweet mother in law made a jam cake for the holidays that was supposed to taste better the longer it "aged". Needless to say, my hubby and I did not care for it because it was very dry, so I never wrote down her recipe. This recipe looks delicious. Thank you for sharing.
My friend Sharyn has one of those mixers. She uses it mostly for making bread. She is one of the best cooks I have ever met! I'm looking forward to sharing this recipe with her and my son Seth. And I will be making this myself! Blessings on you and your family and friends and any livestock you might have wandering around the house and yard!☃️❄🌞🦌
Thank you so much for this recipe . I have one Aunt left in my family who is 88 years old and I try to make her one of her mother's BlackBerry Jam Cake every year. She Loves it and it is sssoo very good. Thank you for sharing yours.❤🙏🏻
Every time I watch your videos I think to myself just how pretty you are and you look lovely today. This cake looks delicious. My exes mom made a no egg cake with raisins, coconut and pecans (thankfully I have the recipe). It was a little dry but delicious. This made me think of her cake and I can't wait to try it. Thank you! 🙏❤
This brings back such memories. My Aunt Margie was known for her blackberry jam cakes. I loved family gatherings, because I knew there would be a blackberry jam cake on the dessert table. Her caramel icing always put it over the top.
Miss Lori my grandfather was born and raised in Fort. Smith, AR his family were farmers and sold produce from their stands on the side of the road! My grandmother made this cake and he loved it!! I love your recipes and your channel! God bless y’all and your family! ❤️🙏🏻😇✝️
Thank you so much for your videos. I watch them all the time. I am 65 years old. There is so much I am learning. Makes me want to really cook, and can. God Bless You and Mr. Brown.
I’ve never heard of that brand before. It looks pretty nice. I wonder how well it will last lifting the top up and down so often. I also noticed there is no handle on the bowl. I definitely think that is a negative, at least for me as I have a hard time with my hands and a handle is necessary.
You remind me of family, I remember the old ways of my grannie and aunt making jams and jellies, I’m 68 now and it has great memories THANK YOU, and Mr. Brown
Oh My Miss Lori! Thank you for sharing this recipe! I bet it is delicious! I love your new mixer! It looks like a really nice one! I remember my first day going to work at the school cafeteria. I could not believe how big the mixer and the big cooking pots were!! Lol! I look forward to seeing you use your mixer in other videos. I hope you and Mr. Brown have a wonderful weekend! God Bless. Xoxoxo
@@WhippoorwillHoller I figured it was still going. I have a Kitchen Aid too, probably almost 20 yrs old. Sadly I haven't used it much. I don't have room on my counter tops for everything I want. I am embarrassed to say that It is stored in the pantry on the top shelf. I need my hubby to get it down and put up the power cooker maybe. Hahaha
Oh my goodness, I actually made this cake and won at the Illinois state fair, a nice silver plate. I just love watching you. I would love to chew and chat with you in your gorgeous cabin. I find you and Mr. Brown so enjoyable to watch. Keep it up because you are a blessing to many.
Ms Lori, I make this cake at Christmas and the holidays and I love the mixer. I put raisins in mine or craisins. The icing is Old Fashion Caramel Icing. Love, love watching and following you. I have been busy making the cream soup mixes and made the brisket today. Very good. Keep up the good work.
Oh Miss Lori- I love your old noisy mixer with all the stickers on it!! It goes with the cabin and your recipes!! I hope we will still get to see it from time to time. xoxo
I made spiced pear preserves in the fall. I bet it would be delicious in this recipe. Thank you for another wonderful lesson in your kitchen ❣️you’re such a joy to watch.
I am not getting anything done in my house because I am binge watching your sweet video's. I have to tell you one of my very good friends that I went 5th grade and up was from Arkansas. He dad came to Poughkeepsie Ny to work at IBM. Her name was Gail Anderson. She looked exactly like you. Unfortunately she died from Hodgkins Lymphoma. I took care of her in the hospital as I was a nurse. Anyhow, thanks for this recipe because I had her mama's cake and it was delicious! You are such a sweet person and have such a comforting voice. God bless you and Mr Brown!
My mom cleaned houses when I was growing up, and one of her little ladies would make me one of these every single year for my birthday... One of my most favorite cakes in the world.
Now that cake is just too delicious !! When I read the name of the cake I thought the jam would be in between the layers. But you get the full flavor of it in the cake itself! That's a name brand mixer I'd not heard of either. How interesting to see all that it does.
It's always good to see old recipes like this. I think I'd like that caramel glaze more than my grandma's filling on her cake. As best I recall, her's had ground raisins, coconut and pecans. I think there was something else in it, too. Now I need to see if my uncle can put his hand on the recipe :D
Glad to see you miss Lori,I'm 58 I loved learning how to make everything from scratch growing up, 5 girls and mom and daddy, Daddy from Missouri, still have family there, love it there it's beautiful....Love from Ohio
I have a well used blackberry pudding cake that's been in my family through the years. It's wonderful too. Thank you for another great recipe and for taking the time to share it. God bless you sweet lady...
Hi you two. Delicious cake. I had a previous mixer with other attachments, blender, liquidiser etc. But when it died on me I was told the one motor wasn't powerful enough to work all the different attachments. I would also miss a handle. Glad Mr Brown is feeling better. God bless 🙏😇
Thank you for sharing your recipes, I really enjoy watching them and learning new ways to make a sweet dish for my sweet tooth never heard of BlackBerry jam cake sounds and looks yummy I bet the house smells wonderful hugs and blessings 🖐❤😇
Thank you for sharing this lovely cake and icing will give it a try when my family can visit. Congratulations on the mixer you work so hard on the videos we all enjoy. So pleased for you. Take care and God bless. x
Thanks for the new recipe I can use some of my homemade jam with. I end up with so much of it and when just spreading it on biscuits or toast it sticks around a long time. Nice to have another option that I can use it for.
I just put up 21 half pints and 4 pints of blackberry jam. I have enough berries to do the same amount of jam so I'm looking for different ways to use this jam. I will definitely be making this cake, it looks so yummy! Thank you for sharing your recipe!
My goodness you had my mouth watering Ms Lori. Lol. That cake looks delicious. That’s a nice mixer. I just bought a new stand mixer or I’d give this one a try. God bless y’all.
I enjoyed this video so much Mrs Lori. If you're not from the South most people have never heard of a jam cake. I've had my recipe for 50 years and the lady who gave me the recipe told me it was 100 years old. It's called Mrs Harbeson's BlackBerry Jam Cake. Most people only made them for holidays and special occasions. If you were lucky enough to have made wild raspberry jam that made a wonderful cake too. It's so enjoyable to watch someone else love and make the Old fashioned classic recipes. Thank you so much and God Bless you and Mr. Brown!
That cake looks delicious! I am going to have to try that, blackberry jam is my favorite. I looked up information on that mixer and it seem to really do a lot to be so reasonably priced. One thing I noticed is the flat paddle might be better for mixing cakes so it reaches the sides better. As you had mentioned it didn't. I have a Kitchen Aid mixer And that is what the paddle blade is for mixing. I use the whisk one for beating egg whites or anything else I would use a hand whisk. One last thing, I love that the attachments are stainless steel. Love your recipes!
I also use the paddle on my KitchenAid for cake batter and mixing cookie dough. I use the whisk for beating up whipped cream or egg whites. My pound cakes need that paddle.
i think this would be a great dessert for after Mothers Day dinner! thank you so much for sharin' this Mrs. Lori! love you and if i don't get to talk to ya any more before then- HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!~ LuAnn
I am a blackberry cake lover, my aunt made me one every Christmas. since her passing my oldest son makes sure I have one. Have to day your mixer reminds me of a sewing machine. Looks like it needs a handle, was hard pouring into cakes. Your cake looks tasty and I am sure it will be.
My mama use to make a Blackberry cake it was so good! She passed away 3 years ago I wish I could sit and talk to her about when she was young and learn more about her recipes. Love y'all have a wonderful day stay safe!
