Old Fashion Oatmeal Pie 

My Grandmother made this pie. I seem to think the recipe came out of the depression days. People were resourceful in those days. Blessings!!

Hi, my little friend☺ today I'm creating this pie, as I hadn't even heard of this kind. I also am a pie baker. I'm making this for my Mr.his birthday is soon coming. I had only Karo, that I had added Maple flavor to, with that , I was rummaging through my freezer and found some black walnuts to add, he absolutely love stuff with them. We shall see if he loves it. My grandmother always made these for us. We thought they were so special. We also thought they came out of our heritage, Penna Dutch Amish and Mennonite. But, baking is baking. Just a great recipe. Thanks.

Ms. Lori,I was just thinking of an oatmeal pie a couple of days ago. Been 45-50 years since I had one and frankly, I was going to look and see if it actually existed, or if it was my imagination. LOL Then this popped up in my feed tonight. So glad!!!!

My mother in law use to cook this for thanksgiving, since I didn't know what a pecan was she called it a mock Pecan Pie recipe. But now thanks to cosco i do know what a pecan is. But this oatmeal pie does taste a lot like a pecan pie.

My grandma use to make pie for my great grandma café in Cozad, Nebraska. She gave me her recipe and a beautiful wood rolling pin before she passed. I think of her every time I use it :)

Oh my gosh! You mentioned raisin pie!!!!! My grandmother used to make raisin pie. It was my most favorite ever!!! She was a cafeteria cook in her day and we all went to a small school w 3 grades together. Not only was she our grandmother but the school cook. The days when it was all home made❤️🙏🏻🤗. I’d love a recipe for raisin pie. Not one of her 16 children knew the recipe. Please share❤️❤️❤️

Years ago - over fifty years - I remember seeing a lot of magazine ads for sauteed old fashioned oats used instead of potatoes at a meal. Then they showed adding chicken juice after browning oats, for softer oats, and several other sides that used 'golden oats' (browne in butter) then adding a liquid which made the browned oats puff up like rice. I tried it and really like it. Now seeing your recipe I'm reminded of that period of time where I experimented more and found lots of new things I'd never seen or tasted before. I can see how this pie would be a good one and wonder if you ever added nuts to it? I think maple syrup may be good substitution for the Karo dark syrup. Maybe apples or dried cranberries and cinnamon would be good to try. You got my curiosity up and I really like oatmeal so I think I'm going to be experimenting again. Thanks!

I can remember eating one oatmeal pie before... and loved it . I haven’t made one before tho .. I love all kinds of pies and I too like pies a dab more than a cake ! ha! I love all desserts .. I’m thinking of making this but adding in about an 1/8 of a cup of chopped pecans in with the oatmeal ! Oh joy ! Blessings and hugs 🤗

My favorite are cobblers - I like the juiciness of the fruit and flaky crust.... love it... In fact - I make fruit dumplings instead of chicken broth dumplings - topped with vanilla ice cream - yum

I have made a very similar thing using fresh white breadcrumbs instead of the oats. In the UK we would call that a treacle tart.

WhenI was in Jr Hi, our home Ec teacher would substitute Grape Nuts Cereal for chopped pecans in a cookie recipe we made. It’s a great substitute for some or all nuts in a recipe.

I’ve NEVER heard of an OATMEAL PIE! Looks so good. Then again I never met a pie I didn’t like lol. But I love anything with oatmeal,cinnamon, lemon or coconut lol. Was going to make it BUT used up the big canister of oats making a batch of oatmeal this morning ( I make about 5-8 servings once or twice a week because we like oatmeal) and I don’t have any corn syrup. Pies and cobblers are also my favorite desert. I've never heard of oatmeal pie, but it sounds real good. My dad always made pies at Thanksgiving. He'd make pumpkin, mince, and egg custard. After, he passed away, I decided to try making pies. My mom loved the custard and would often ask me to make her one. She lost her battle with cancer a couple years ago. I really miss having someone to make treats. Your videos really brighten my day. I have family in Elkins, Arkansas. Is that near you?
