Old fashioned skillet Sweet Potatoes

Having just used this skillet for the first time, ru-vid.comUgkxIst1DRMCWM6dgd9VjXMFXlH4HeElE6Mc to batter-fry some macaroni & cheese, I'm absolutely in love with it. The foldaway design means it actually fits in my very small kitchen, but it also makes everything crazy simple to clean. While the instructions say you should not deep fry in this, you can, but do it with your best judgment; in my case the oil didn't even reach the halfway mark.It's hard to see in the pictures, but the skillet itself has a lip in the corner. This allows steam to get out during cooking if the lid is on (so don't try to steam rice in it), and makes pouring out used oil extremely easy.Cleanup was a dream. After detaching the plug and control circuit, the unit is just three separate pieces: The skillet itself, the lid, and the base which may or may not need any cleaning at all (usually just the handles). Compared to a dedicated deep fryer I purchased in the past, where the heating element was suspended in the oil and everything was difficult to clean, the difference was amazing.I'm definitely looking forward to using this for more things in the future.

My grandma ALWAYS fried sweet potatoes (my Aunt's too only less butter & sugar since they were "watching their waistline" 😄) I love them that way! I'm not a fan of sweet potato casserole - baked or fried! Ah Lori, I'm so grateful to you for continuing to bring back memories of those happy times! Miss Lori , sorry but I had to laugh when I saw that lid. Reminded me of the lid on the chamber pot my great grandparents used to keep up stairs when everyone was staying at the farmhouse for the family reunion. We used to call it the thunder jug. That house was huge, but it only had one tiny little bathroom.

Those sweet potatoes look delicious! My mom, my sister & I have used a spatula like yours for years. They used to be called Batter Whips, but then they got really hard to find. I was in Williams-Sonoma one day & there they were in stainless steel & called a fish spatula. I bought three, one for me, my sister & my mother. I could eat sweet potatoes just about every day but have never friend them up. Several years ago, I bought a fabric bag made for microwaving potatoes instead of baking them. It works great for sweets, too, and I "bake" one up at least 2-3 times a week. I love them with a bit of butter, a touch of brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I'll be trying this fried recipe fairly soon! Thanks for sharing.

I have always fried sweet potatoes. Sometimes I combine them with white potatoes. Cook the white ones for a while, then add the sweet potatoes. I just use some oil and salt and pepper. Love them.

Mornin'! I grew up on candied sweet spuds aka candied yams aka skillet sweet spuds and they are the BEST! In my opinion by far tastier than oven baked. Pork chops are perfect with them, and fried cabbage? Wow, what a nice meal, Miss Lori. You are one awesome cook! How sweet Mr. Brown's so in love with his barefoot baby.
