1stick butter, 1/2c oil, 2c sugar, 4 eggs (1 at a time) 1Tbsp vanilla. In separate bowl...Dry ingredients 2 1/2c flour, 1tsp b.powder, 1/2 tsp b.soda, 1/2tsp salt. (alternate 1c butter milk.. 1/3 dry mixture, then 1/2 milk) Do not overmix. Divide into 3 greased and floured cake pans, Bake at 325F for 20-25 minutes.
After you mix the butter/eggs stuff, mix in 1/3 of the flour mix, then 1/2 the buttermilk, then another 1/3 of the flour mix, then the other half of the buttermilk, and then the rest of the flour mix . Many recipes call for alternating the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients.
My Granny used to make this cake from scratch in 5 to 6 layers of absolute deliciousness. My Grandfather and I could never stop eating this delicious cake. Makes Me miss her 😢💜 Resurrect in Power Granny

Oh...this looks so delicious!! I've had something like this which I can't remember...from my childhood. It was fantastic! I keep remembering the simple buttermilk cake with a very caramel icing. My dad was in the Army, and we traveled a good deal. Where I had it...can't remember.
This was passed to me as a coffee cake made in a rectangular cake pan then frosted after poking holes all over the cake for the caramel to drain into. Depending on how much caramel you want in the cake you frost it warm or cold. We usually frost lightly warm then let it cool more before frosting again. This way you get some soaking down into the cake but most staying on top and just the right amount of sweet.

Hi! Because this cake is all about the caramel you can pretty much use whatever cake recipe you like. It just has to be sturdy enough to layer. Make sure you dont overbake..there should be crumbs on your toothpuck when you check for doneness. and weigh your ingredients if you can.
Yes it's a labor of love. Nothing store bought will match its depth of flavor. Acceptable substitutes would be dulce de leche and melted soft caramels with cream. Caramel sauce would be too runny.
No, because there is a ton of sugar already in the icing. And the icing needs that milky flavor thats in evaporated milk. As a shortcut you can use dulce de leche as a frosting. It will not taste the same but it will be delicious.
The cake looks delicious in the end. However, I had trouble finding a complete recipe. I wish there had been a link to the entire recipe from start to finish. Perhaps I just missed it.
The caramel recipe is in the description box. You can use any sturdy cake recipe for the layers. I used a buttermilk cake but some people use dense cakes that are closer to pound cakes. Its up to you. The cake is only the canvas for the caramel.

Chile, didn’t you not see that parchment paper he put in the pan? 😳 It could’ve possibly happened bc he didn’t oil the parchment paper, it will cause the cakes to stick to the paper. The cake still looks good though after he added the caramel icing.
I'm not a cake decorator and I am not selling cakes. Lol A lot of cakes look pretty but taste awful. This tastes delicious so maybe dont comment until you make it and you are free to use a cake trimmer bench scraper and offset spatula to make it as pretty as you want.
