Yeah as long as you’re not concerned about the clout or making it kosher with older kits, not really any downside to the new gen in my eyes other than the weaker clips. I hope you enjoy the rig when you get it! There’s a decent amount you can do with customizing it I’ve done more then what I showed in the video in the past. By no means modular but you can make it work lol.
Perfect vid: the punctuation, talking speed and side by side comparison really make this the best newgen vs oldgen vid on yt. Also if youre interested, theres a "2008 vs 2016 smersh" vid made by voeniy obzor. Theyre guys havily funded by greyshop so the video came out as "oldgen is shit cuz sewing is older and newgen is an improvment cuz it's new". You however, have shown both advantages and dissadvantages of both variants.
Somethings to note there's a generation of smersh in-between the new and "old gen" which was the new gen smersh design with old gen materials. also there's mustard and oxford smersh which are old gen which can vary and some have molle some don't. I've seen the loops on the back of shoulder straps used for camelbaks, they can be kind of used for drag handles but I prefer the new gens drag handle. You can find old gens without the snaps for grenades. pre oxford smersh usually use black plastic buckles rather than the olive ones. I also believe the smersh buttpack is a clone of one of the USGI alice buttpacks with some minor changes. not all new gens come with loops in the first aid pouch. whether the tags are on certain parts or not I believe can vary but I think sometimes they have just been removed from previous owners. The main reason people believe old gen to be best is because they have been used more with the Russians than the new gen, even recently and as you've said they're better for people who do impression kits. Also the recent decline in quality control by SSO's products, like materials, stitching and as you've said the buckles. I have also heard about old gens being better under night vision than new gen but I'm not how true that is and I can't test it myself. I also never noticed the wider shoulder straps despite owning these for about 2 years. I've had both a new gen smersh (straight from SSO) and an oxford smersh (second hand) and a friend of mine owns the in-between generation smersh I've mentioned it might just be my bias but the old gen I have feels nicer than my new gen I also prefer the less shiny material of the old gens of smersh. Last of all Decent video there's not too many comparison videos of smersh rigs and it feels like you really have to search for some info on some versions of the rig what aren't the new gen, nice to see less talked about variants of the smersh. @scarecrowdynamics298 I think it's known as the yellow cordura smersh, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's that. Hope that narrows it down if you do end up trying get one.

Awesome! I’ve heard the Ali repros aren’t bad, they typically give off the appearance of a Smersh produced around 2013, the new gen design but lacking the logos and made with a slightly different material.
