Hey Gorgoth, I just discovered your channel today as part of my research into Russian-made plate carriers and tactical rigs. I'm from the United States and I'm very glad that your reviews and tutorials are in English! Keep up the good work!
I had my smersh since a couple of years ago but I only started using it recently. It really goes fantastic for alleviating stress on the shoulders for long-duration usage. I still prefer chest-rigs for casual use but if you need to load some weight for quite some time, smersh is the way to go IMO. Also very easy to take out at any given moment to have a rest as opposed to most vests and chest rigs. You just unbuckle waist and chest belts and take it off. Personal advice: You can use the suspensor straps on the back to fit a molle camelbag, which will protect your spine and facilitates the carriage of water, with most of the weight resting on the hips instead of the shoulders which is kinda nice if you ask me ;)
Gorgoth, Your video made setting up the Smersh LBE really easy. Had it put together and adjusted in under 30 minutes. I have a few other sets of LBE for different weapons and I am looking forward to taking this out into the field for a few days and seeing how it wears. It does a good job of distributing the weight so far. Thank you again.
i began speaking in 2015, when decided to run YT. before that i was able to text poorly. for now 90% of what i watch is in english. thanks. im glad if my vids help.
Thank you, I wanted to get some ak pouches for my old alice lbe but I was confused why there was 2 loops on the back of pouches. I understand now. Much appreciated🍻
ALICE Gear is post Vietnam, even if it was made during the late years of the Vietnam war, it was never used. The only thing closest was the m67 nylon webbing system which is the predecessor of ALICE. The web gear in Vietnam was the m56 web gear system for the US Military, excluding USMC in the early stages of the war who used the m61 system
Alice wasn't used in Nam but I see how you would think that it was there very similar even the sso stuff it has some of the same looks and characteristics :)
@@comradeamerican4393 I mean it's webbing, it's bound to look the same. Hell the modern British PLCE webbing looks basically the same as the ones from Vietnam or even the earlier British Pattern 58.
@@SonOfTheDawn515 Molle is good and bad. I prefer the old Alice (without the Rapidex buckle) . It's fairly comfortable to wear for long periods and you don't sweat as much. Of course it's subjective.
I enjoyed the history lesson. When I bought my SVD Smersh Set, I didn't have too many problems putting it together. It was very similar to the ALICE LBE I wore in the U.S. Army Infantry. There were some differences, but nothing serious. I did have to get an aftermarket duty belt due to the supplied belt wouldn't fit over my Partizan M, but it would work with my Partizan. The only thing I don't like about it once I added the SVD pouches is that I didn't have a place to put my pistol on my belt. Not a big deal because I am using this to hunt Wild hogs with but It is somewhat annoying. I also used the extra buttpack straps to suspend the RD-54 backpack off of the Suspenders. I also added two US ALICE Canteens and Canteen covers to the belt on both sides of the buttpack. It is a nice solid and dependable system. I ike tht once I put it on that I have everything I need to do an all day Hog Hunt with. It also is far more comfortable than the US Alice especially with the heavy 7.62x54R mags in it. I look forward to seeing more videos about this system.
In the 80's Australian Army we were issued the US ' Yoke ' with the 2x straps that went down your back to the ' bum bag '. But, we always preferred the ' Alice Yoke ' with the single descending strap that went down the backbone, because it didn't rub so much when wearing a back back . It had 2x clips at the bottom, so it worked with the old style bum bags. Looks like it would also be compatible with the SMERSH gear. Thanks
Interesting, when I was in the US Army Light Infantry (1990s), A lot of the guys went out and purchased the old Vietnam "H" harness, because it was more comfortable..... I guess it is a personal preference sort of thing or it could have been the difference in the rucksacks we used vs what you used. . The Smersh shoulder harness has more padding on it than either the U.S. " Y" harness and the "H" harness.
Maybe it had something to do with the back packs that went over the webbing ? Our backpacks were total BS. They were designed by an Officers wife for Patrols during Vietnam. They were basically a square board with two horizontal strips of 3" wide padding. It was not off the back like an Alice frame but hard up against the back. This made the two strap yoke version really noticeable, so the single strap version caught on. But as you say, it's all personal choice .
Hey, good job Gorgoth 😃; as something of a minor collector of Sposn kit, I appreciate that you spoke of the history behind it. I'm interested to see the additional ways to wear it, even though I believe I may already know them. 🤔🤓
Thanks! smersh is historical thing now. i cant speak about it without mentioning its history. also, if you know 45 ORP VDV assembly, where pouches go under angle, then you know all of it.
Thank you for this video, made it very easy to follow with the close up shots and also the detailed reasons behind the different heights and levels etc. Thanks again 😀
I wish Smersh pouches also sold separately. I want PKM pouches for my Smersh AK vest so I can have a hybrid vest with a double AK pouch and a PKM pouch as a big Utility pouch.
Thanks for the excellent video! I just got my Smersh gear Tuesday, replacing my ancient ALICE webbing. Much more comfortable and handy... I added a mag dump pouch to mine, though.
Fantastic video man. Had no idea how to set this up out of the box, your instructions made it fast and easy. I think I like this better than ALICE, it seems easier to adjust in a way that makes it comfortable to wear.
thanks! it was made for people who asked for instructions lol. and its only one of possible assemblies. there are at least 2 more mag pouch placement variations :) other SSO stuff also will be reviewed, same as techinkom and many many other :D
One of the best videos I've ever seen on tactical vests. Thank you very much my friend! I am thinking about setting up a gorka+smersh loadout and a multicam FSB ispired loadout. After this video I think I Will start with the gorka one because I like how it looks and how it fits. Cyma ak 105 tactical (cyma are the best low-mid price AKs imho)
always welcome! best way to thank for this vid is sharing to others who may need it. i able to film many tutorials but if its not being watched, its meaningless.
I like the rig overall, but the biggest problem I find with many of these systems is that massively bulky shoulder suspender pad with too much hardware....Always interfering with your rifle when shouldering.
I watch this video in 144p because i am a bad ass. You have to close your eyes a little bit to see all pixels in much better resolution, like an angry eagle.
Do you have more in depth videos of different smersh assemblies? Like how to use if you are using an RPK, or other weapon systems? Or where to read about them, if they are published in a manual somewhere? Thank you.
nope, i dont. channel exists on my pure enthusiasm. i not getting ANYTHING in return, and channel eats my time. literally none of vids being watched like this one. and i cant film videos just because of 200-300 views. if i could be 100% sure that other vids about smersh assemblies could same popular as this one, i could film it. BUT NO ONE WATCHING new vids i film that OFTEN.
@@Gorgoth_siberian that's understandable. Do you know of any non opsec Russian manuals around that show how to assemble for different uses? I could probably get a digital copy somewhere.
I have the same one, and man. My waist is super small. I can't make it a snug fit. Alas, it is good nevertheless. Edit: The belt is ultra flexible, you can velcro it wayyy back So yes, even as a super skinny person, you can fit this
Still modernizing lmao theyre running `960s gear if this is true. I don things it wrong in the right circumstance but not for most situations now adays
Yeah, you can do smaller mags assembly, basically vss pouches are close to m4 series by dimensions, but I not tried it, not have any ar platform rifles , not for airsoft, not as real gun atm, only ak kind.
Smersh is designed for ak, But you can attach any other pouches. 556 mags of what platform? AR? If its not longer ones, they will be too deep in pouch. Still ok to grab, But maybe uncomfy. If you mean ak556 mags then no any problems, same as with any galil mags.
Trying to get Russian gear for airsoft/ survival situations is a pain in the ass since I'm not from russia also I'm getting a smersh since molle is more complicated and I can easily wear a backpack over the rig aswell as the next part I need is a gorka suit since that one of the 3 things I need... also dont remember who I ordered it from the smersh that is
Add me on FB, or contact me thru any messenger. i sell all gear i reviewed, and many other stuff, like 5 years already, shipping to states and other countries without any problems, accepting paypal. facebook.com/gorgothzucced me on FB rn.
just getting into airlift and wanting to be Russian soldier for halloween with friends so I think I'm gonna get this over plate carrier and maybe a scout suit
@@Gorgoth_siberian at 9:43 there’s two straps with clips on the back pouch. What are they used for? Btw thank you for the response! I appreciate it and it was quick!
@@Chrispy1203 they are used for backpack carrying variation. When buttpack used as backpack, attached thru these carbiners on d rings which shoulder straps have.
@@SonOfTheDawn515 it should be good option. And it have spare space on belt for med pouch, and some holster. If you want smersh, contact me on Facebook,i sell them and many other older pieces made by SSO.also have rare woodland fsb smershes now.
Nope, not even close. its regular loop-based smersh. Molle smersh based on molle lol sadly i not have any review on it yet, since molle smersh assembly is optional by whatever you get from sposn molle pouches, or whatever else molle pouches for it.
