Hello Steve, my name is Geovanny i live in miami florida ,I do air conditioning in my spear time ,only for friends and family, I went to school for hvac 7 year ago, I love this profession, I wish I could do this full-time ,by my own, but y can't leave my job, for many reasons, but eny way ,I ben learning I lot from you ,my friend, you are the real thing, you know about everything, a 1000 thank for all your videos, I will be watching more thanks you again, I am sorry for my spelling, I am from Cuba .good blessing you
My heatpumps are 23 years old and lasted because I installed a 5-1 hard start cap to prevent lock rotor on startup. Runs 12 amps from startup to run. No stress on old tin cans
I lived in an old house I inherited from my aunt around 2000. It only had window ac units and an old gas furnace that was 50+ years old. It bombed a couple of years after living there so I bit the bullet and put a whole new furnace and ac system in from American Standard. Costly but it sure did help in selling the house a couple of years later.
Yup. It could blow in a week and need to be replaced anyway, but it could run for another decade with no problems. That's a wager I'd make for the cost of an hour of Steve's time any day.
If you have TXV equipped central AC, it will remove more humidity than piston equipped central AC. However, central AC is not a full blown dehumidifier. It is simply a byproduct of cooling the air. Whole house dehumidifier that mounts with central AC are really expensive best invested after weather sealing and duct sealing. Standalone dehumidifier is a much more affordable option. In beginning, you may dump out two gallons a day but soon will be one time a day. There are sucky dehumidifiers but I think the industry got it nailed down for reliability. I bought two Danby dehumidifiers... three years now... very quiet, very affordable and still reliable... so happy.
Yea, hacker or scammer would quickly say you need a new unit cannot fixed. It sad when they target old people, that why old people have second opinion and call steve first.
I just had to replace my 1969 Weather King unit! Gave 51 years of great service, but the compressor finally died! Still ran, but wasn't moving coolant. Have a new 2-ton Concord unit now, with a new A-coil installed on the top of my 1973 furnace!
Same thing happened to my Goodman wife told me AC was not working and when I came home to check it it immediately tripped the breaker. Next day when I looked at the condenser I noticed a dangling wire and corroded contact. I put a new contact on and put it back on the compressor and thankfully it worked. I’ve had to change the air handler fan motor last year and condenser fan motor this year but that’s all so after 20 years I can’t complain. It’s never needed a charge yet so run it as long as I can.
Hey steve...nice job as usual! I love how you look after our older folks sir! My mind has been changed about how I view Goodman products. It is all about the install of their products. Thank you for your videos sir. I have learned a great deal. Keep up the good work.
My Mom is tight with money. They live in a Brick house and when I was a kid, She would wait until it was 90° F outside before She would turn the air conditioner on when I was a kid and they live in a Brick house and Our humidity is pretty high here in North Carolina too.
I would just add that for Northerners who may not get the point about a BRICK house in the South. The bricks absorb heat from the hot summer sun and retain it. Then they radiate it all night. Wood is cooler.
Great job! Keep them running. Dehumidifier is probably more efficient in MA zone but anywhere with humdifity needs it too. I'd imagine ductless system would fit the bill nicely. Super low operating cost Otherwise a standalone dehumidifier would do the job well.
Yeah, but you have to remove the water catchment tray/bucket and give dump it out and replace it. Also a dehumidifier isnt going to reduce the heat. Shes an older lady, she probably shouldn't be removing buckets of water, dumping them out and putting it back in the machine. The A/C unit removes the humidity without having to mess with buckets of water, and it cools the house down. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
Holy Area Rugs Batman! I counted 11 area rugs from the door where Steve went in to the thermostat! Crazy. They say area rugs aren't so great for the elderly because they tend to shuffle their feet and trip on the edges of small rugs.
Hi Steve. Made a suggestion a while ago about an LED light that fits the bill of your cap. It's about $20--25. Would increase your ability to get light on the problem and free up both of your hands.. Appreciate your explanations to show the solution and parts that solved the problem. And Miss Molly is absolutely adorable.
My Lennox condensing unit was 28 years old when the compressor gave up the ghost. For some reason, the company that installed the unit never installed a filter drier. I installed a drier when I fixed a leak on the suction line. The Lennox coil was in pretty good shape when I removed it and had never leaked.
Snake reminds you of your wife! LMFAO! A wife and her lawyer would make TWO snakes, Steve! Good tip about not covering the whole unit in winter to avoid the green house effect. BUT that makes me wonder about the cover that I put over my window unit each Fall. A tech told me it would last longer if I did. Of course, ideally the window unit should be removed during winter. But that would be impractical for my situation.
Why the negativity around the Goodman? Made in Republic of Texas. Pretty common problem with that unit if it gets filled with leaves mice etc That unit will run for another 20 years.
Goodman systems are available to anyone, many other brands only sell systems to HVAC companies that have had some training. Every maintenance man, handyman, guy just looking to make some money can easily buy a Goodman system and try to install it, often those installs are very poorly done, often they don't know how to do it,, often these "installers" don't have the knowledge, experience or tools to diagnose problems; then real AC techs like Steve get called to cleanup the mess.
Goodman has had a lot of problems with evaporator coils leaking. That said some other brands had trouble with them leaking when they all changed over to 410a. Goodman just seemed to have more of the problem. Goodman also had a problem with one joint leaking on the heat pump condensers. You can braze up the leak but you shouldn’t have to. I agree Goodman sells to anyone and that does lead to poor installs.
I had two new Goodman's in the same year. Both failed regularly. Goodman would not send warranty parts for two weeks. I finally gave up and paid for a third a/c, a Carrier and hope Goodman rots in He ll.
I've never had a problem getting parts or filing warranty claims on goodman parts, except for maybe a period last year when everything was on backorder due to COVID. Really the only thing specific to Goodmans are the boards and fan motors in the high efficiency units and the coils. Compressors and fan motors and caps are all commodity items you can replace with anything.
I have a 2006 3 ton Goodman paired with a 2ton evaporator, shes works so-so for AC, but locks out on high-head pressure for heating. I want to replace the evap with a 3ton coil and TXV valve but unsure on the performance.
Lennox guy sold my dad a new ac unit in 2009 because of a burnt wire... it was the worst unit we've ever had, held a charge for 1 month at most. Had it refilled 3 times by 2015 when the Cap went bad. Morons in the house flipped the 30 amp breaker back on because they were running to many hair dryers/heaters/window AC units whatever wasn't there at the time. Compressor siezed. Some people. Replaced with a guardian 410a unit. Because the morons don't live here anymore.
19:30 I commend You. I would answer every question and find a nice pause[with comments] to keep moving. getting nothing done and ya have to bill'em We got peoples life' on the line. Gotta stay focused. worked maint.(journeymen) for 38 years, and did the same shit 16 years before that {yes, i remember when i was 10} So anyway, lmfao it's The # 1 that comes first. S a f t e y ty, les
What’s this Houston thing? You mean only people named Houston can have ignition? LMAO, I had to do it sorry. Steve you need to get a magnetic base umbrella for the shade, well worth the $60.
@@stevenlavimoniere yea I heard you at the end of the video talking about how old it is. Thanks for the videos Steve. Love the channel. I've done alot of work at my house that I learned from you.
@@stevenlavimoniere Indeed, it's old as shit but why does this stuff need to be replaced all the time? It's not there's a some huge break through technology with HVAC, and you yourself recommend inefficient old technologies? I'm looking the cost of replacement parts it's ridiculous, this crap being made by BMW or something? Why does replacing an AC system cost as much as a new engine in a truck? There's no way you are going to convince me that AC is as complicated as crate motor and AC unit is much simpler than a gas truck engine.
she needed her ac fixed just happened to be a 70 degree day ... so ths masshole fixed it for her .. please try to restrain from being a complete asshole .
