Sweet I love it, I just got me a 7" old Hickory and want to make it into a 5" I really like what you did with the handles made them wider 👍 thank you for sharing 💯
Nice work! I found the background music annoying, but I have a mute button. Lol. But a good looking knife! When I did a similar project I put curly maple scales on it, but the liners look great.
Please explain something too me. WHY would you take a perfectly weel designed knife blade, fully functioning, without issue, and destroy it, making it less of a knife, less of a functioning tool, stripping it of its resources and with effort and time spent....turn it into less of a knife? I understand making a knife, but to do this to a really good knife, and to make a good knife into a less good knife....I do not get that?
I guess to each his own. If I had done it,..........I would have cut the blade the way I wanted it,.. stop. Then I would have removed the handles,.... trashed them. Then I would have shaped and sharpened the blade. I would have found a very light skid,.......cut handles out,... glued them together to get the right thickness. At the rear of the blade I'd center punch it and use a step drill bit till it was a 3/8 hole. Then I would drill the handle holes,.....stop. Then I'd 1) make sure that the front was even. 2) countersink the 3/8 hole Now the blade is done I mock it up,.... pins in place,...... cover the blade with masking tape,.......then with visegrips I clamp 3/16 bar stock there so both handles are held even,.....I take the pin holes and on the inside wallow them out for epoxy. Then I epoxy them on,......I put 3/8 copper tubing in the 3/8 hole making sure no epoxy is in the counter sink. The epoxy has dried for 2 days,.....I put a tapered punch in the 3/8 hole and put some epoxy around the countersink and hit it till it conforms. Then I repeat on the other side. When its dry I use a angle grinder with a rubber backing and a 80 grit sanding disc to remove the pins and shape it,... then a file then sand paper then I finish it.
Yup I agree, this was my first attempt at doing anything with a knife other than sharpening. I definitely rushed through the process making it up as I went along. I did it all in a weekend. I’ve learned a lot since I posted this video. I should do try it again. I know it would turn out much better. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
