Great Tidbits and some great scores at the meet Gary. I'd like to give a big shout out to your boss for allowing you to make these videos of your activities in keeping those old compressors in running condition.
Gary, try to find an Andrea boring head. It's also stationary when in use but is has a SK40 or SK50 or Mc4 adapter which can be changed easily. You can add your own interface if needed. Great stuff from before the cnc era. Best! Job
Chuck, I made sure I had a couple of our friends keep you busy while I was shopping. LOL. Thanks again for organizing the event. Everybody had a great time. Gary
Gary, you don't need an extended drawbar, just a socket on an extension on the ratchet wrench. I go that route whenever I put my right angle attachment on...
Thank you Max, it’s hard for me to pass up on any good deals. Knowing how busy you are I sure appreciate you taking the time to check out the video. Always look forward to your videos. Gary
Gary, Awesome video, thanks for the shout out ! I didn't know Cummings had a N-Gas version of the 5.9, should be a solid unit. Lol...Now I know why your truck was riding so low when leaving the swap meet 😂😂 Enjoyed, ATB....Dean
Thank you Dean. I hauled 1000 pounds of pistons and rods to the get together to give away, I’d like to think I was a little lighter leaving. I always appreciate you stopping by the channel . Gary
Hi ! The contraption you were not sure about is for a grinding wheel balancer. You place the grinding wheel between the flat and conical pieces and then place the shaft on the balancing apparatus, usually 2 intersecting wheels on each side, so the shaft can spin freely to find the heavy spot on the wheel. Anyway that's my take on it.
Hey love the channel Have you ever seen the trick of smoking threads I'm sure you have but you take an oxy acetylene torch and turn the fuel on only and smoke the threads and it keeps the bbs off of them they won't stick it makes a coating on the metal
We have some that have shrunk, but not enough to break ears off. We have been able to just open up the holes in the manifold slightly. Thanks for stopping by Brian. Gary
G'day Gary. Excellent repair work mate on the Cummings engine. Love that swag of tools your acquired. Especially that bore mate head (bloody beautiful). Cheers mate, Aaron.
Thank you Aaron. I’m sure it will be a tool that will not get used to often but will be great to have when I need it. Appreciate you stopping by Aaron. Gary
Best trick I've ever seen using the hydraulic press to punch-out a perimeter drilled slug ! ..... with 40 yrs of experience ya know 'em all, Gary ! And don't hoard all them vintage Lufkin tools -- I love 'em all too 😄 That Lufkin mic set is BEAUTIFUL !!!
Gary....Holy Smokes, that Lufkin micrometer set is impressive, do you have to hide your tools and bring them in one at at time over a period of months like I do so my wife does not notice??? thanks for sharing all your new treasure......Paul
Tom, definitely gave that some thought. But was thinking the cones would have to be clamped tight on whatever wheel your balancing. Great to see you pop in Tom. I hope your recovery is going well. Gary
Regarding your Chandler Duplex boring and facing head, it looks to be the same size as mine. I have a diimensioned drawing of the tool holder for that, can send a copy if you want.
Love the innovation making parts from scraps Gary. Likewise I'll always favour a bit of Fab over a lot of machining. Some nice new tools but I do wonder how you have the space to put everything. Good to see the engines working in the field. Cheers
Thank you Paul. Space is no problem for the small tools, it’s the machines that are the challenge. I have put the new shop plans on hold for now but will be working on the house when weather gets nicer. I should gain about 700 Square feet of shop space. Not a lot but will give me a little elbow room. Always nice to have you stop by Paul. Gary
did a lot of windsurfing out on Sherman island back in the 80's and watched these big ships come up and down the river, when your down in the water they are REALLY big
Hi Gary is that a standard 5.9 diesel head on pumping engine with long spark plugs? and lower compression pistons, is this a Cumins parts arrangement or after markets parts? i have been reading lately about engine makers are converting diesels to run on Hydrogen , spark ignition and lowered compression ratio.
Dale, these are Cummins natural gas engines. Different heads, low compression, pistons, and other differences than a diesel. All Cummins, no aftermarket.
