The hand sculpts are UNMATCHED! Today's minis are like CGI leaving behind practical effects. Hand sculpting is a skillset that should always be used, never forgotten. If big companies like GW want to offer something special, they should hand sculpt elements of their new models.
I play Black Templars, monodominant inquisition and have six redemptionist gangs for necromunda. The new plastics will fit right in (with cawdor ugrade pack hooded heads). If it doesnt hurt, it doesnt count!
Like you I have a lot of old school metal, SOB minis, Mordhiem, and my still in packaging Mad Donna from necomunda, Chronopia, Chain mail the list goes on
Never really played that old Necromunda.. But I bought the book from Specialist Games later.. Did not play much but liked it! Played more Mordheim. Which I am kinda happy for.. And a new campaign is starting soon! :D
As nice as the new models are (some are absolute abominations though), they still don't quite stand up to Jez's and co's sculpts, which remain truly beautiful - in a nightmare-ish way!
9:02 - that model on the right is a kitbashed creation; GW didn't make a Redemptionist miniature like that. Looks to me like its creator made the model out of a Warhammer Fantasy Empire Flagellant, and added the shotgun.
You know, I was wondering about that. I think we actually have a couple of those flagellants somewhere. It's a good choice for a conversion though, since the figure is already robed and masked like the Redemptionists.
How do you come by these sealed boxes? I will occasionally see something listed on ebay, but even a complete box without shrink wrap can be in the low hundreds. And when you talk about the contrast working poorly on metal, do you mean bare or primed?
Hard to say. I’ve been collecting for a long time and eBay prices can vary wildly. Sometimes you just nab a deal. As to the contrast paint, I had purchased a primed redemptionist and contrast simply didn’t want to stick to it. Maybe the primer was weird.
