Finally, someone doing it right. No fast showing off steps and flips and back spins. Just a great old style dancer, gliding with effortless style and finesse on the beat.
Real northern dancing - I was dancing like this when I was 17 - 62 now can't quite do it anymore so loved to see it again - it's definitely a lost art 💜
Proper Northern Soul Dancer….some on here look like demented Dervishers or like the old skinheads stomping. Others wear a vest, vintage Oxford bags, bowling shoes and stick a bar towel in their belt and just do a basic box step while flailing their arms about. Thank God this guy still reminds us of how it should be done. In sync, understated, smooth, stylish….like all top class athletes and performers you should always play within yourself. #ifyouknowyouknow.
Rob Pearce from Birmingham IV seen him quite a few times in RU-vid videos in the Blackpool Tower Northern Soul dancing competitions & so many times he has made it to the top 3.1 of my favourite Northern Soul dancers this guy is brilliant. He's puts a lot of the young un's to shame his energy is amazing.Great track too.Pure perfection I could watch him for hours sometimes I do.Oops!!!.KTF.✊👏👏👏💖
"Ain't no man"! Indeed...this guy is in the zone. He seem to really enjoy his own musicality and it shows.Too bad we all can not have his pure joy and abandonment of "struttin' our best in life and on the dance floor. You go Bob! Thanks for the showcase....of Old School class.
What a fantastic, controlled example of dancing.Perfect timing, picking up the musical vibe and going with it effortlessly.Wonderful feet movement, and none of those silly steps looking like they are out for a stroll,or doing a waltz-------left,right, together.Very creative, understated, and classy !! Thank god there are no flips,splits,spinning-------go to the gym if you want them and put up safety warnings. This is the best of the Mod period dancing morphed into its younger sibling,Northern Soul.Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant this was around 80s and 90s modern soul, as it was called back then, reminds me of the locarno Birmingham , next to the Bali hai funk dancers, loved it, could do both styles, never can memories be taken away 🙏👍🥰
Got me out of breath just watching him, it's not just the steps and timing and even the acrobats that make a good northern soul dancer.... It's the effortless grace that very few of the so called great dancers had, this guy has it in bundles.
👍👍👍👍👍✌️ SUPER,SUPER,SUPER³!!! great! relaxing to watch you slide on the floor and in combination with this song brings me back to some better and happier times .. what nostalgia
Sooo slick, i was reliving my past looking at Old soul and remembering how we used to dance to tunes like Billy's bag , Hey Girl don't bother Me, Helpless, etc etc when i was a youth in the late 60's and saw this... its the 'side slide shuffles'(longer the better in my day,lol ) that take me back. Thanks for the memories.
Im an old mecca ,highland room wigan dancer, and you either got it or you havent, this guy has it. Im a severe critic and some of the supposed northern soul dancers you see nowadays, well sorry, they arent. Northern soul wasnt just the dance, it was a way of life and either you feel it or you dont. I probably get hung drawn and quartered for this, but the dancers i see tday arent a patch on us oldies back then..... rant over
Rob, i really hope you're well and planning to do some more videos (please, please, please) You are absolutely outstanding, so natural, so soulful, so full of rhythm. I've watched this so many times since i found it. Dont ever stop doing what you do
This melts my heart, I moved to Manchester in 1978 and sadly didn't pick up on the beautiful thing that is Northern soul. I know that it lives on but to have been there and experienced the proper soul would have been devine.
If you think he looks good just imagine how he is felling. Totally absorbed in the music. Proper dancer that i totally have enjoyed watching him at Rugby loosing himself. Good man Rob.
I’m 67 and bound and determined to northern soul dance..yes this is my first rodeo… If we had the dance along with the music over here in the states…I would have been all over this..
Glorious! So smooth and easy just like the best dancers in the Highland room back in the day. Wish I could still dance but I was dancing with him in my head for a few minutes then. He 'feels' the music, lost in it. Wonderful!
Rob taught me to dance - although I am million miles away from the moves in the video above, I have enough confidence to get up and have a go at most dances I go to. Its introduced a whole social way of life and have made some great friends. I can thank Rob enough. I hear he may be offering classes again soon - I will certainly go along if he does. If your looking for a new hobby or interest this is a great way to do it. Cheers Rob.
I'm captivated by your fluidity to the beat. I think I need to start dancing again. I just discovered that I can play this in slo-mo on youtube. Very cool to watch at 1/4 speed.
Good to see someone that actually knows how to dance, the videos on here at various ball rooms are a sad reflection of anything that resembles northern soul and more like a visit to the crypt. Good on Rob, it is how we used to at 16, never needed talc.
I have a very similar shuffling style as well and love this guy's moves. He responds to the music and expresses it in his feet. He also varies what he does and keeps it interesting for himself.
Takes me back to Tiffs, Newcastle ‘72 with Pep on the decks. There was a regular there who danced in a similar style, who kept me mesmerized every Sunday night. Monday nights were back home in Stafford at the “Grot” /TOTW . Happy days…. You have inspired me to get dancing again after 50 years away from the scene. It’s got to be good for my Parkinson’s !
Effortlessly, wonderful. Just love Northern Soul, the ,usic is great. At least you can make out what the words are... perfection all round. Thank you for a great video ❤
Thanks for the like.what more can I say you're move's make's me feel like I was a lot of years ago and still have the passion to keep dancing.such a excellent dancer show's how much you graced the floor.so light on your feet as if you were floating in air around the dance floor.your a great inspiration to northern soul dancing.ill be at black pool this year.hope I get the chance to shake your hand ✋. northern soul dancing is not just a back drops . it's the way you can dance.top class as I seem many dancers . but your own style is the best I've seen.. hope you're at black pool this year and should win the dance competition. Floor less experienced cool and slick.defnitley Wigan's choosen few.im hutchy from Darlington county Durham don't take it out of this world. Thanks again Simon Hutchinson being on the scene since I was 14 .tune in to you tube.engniers working men's club.you çatch enjoying a few move's my self.keep the faith Simon hutchy. And Susan bartle my sister takes a shot video of my self.proud. To be a true soulie. All the best hutchy.
This is a proper choreographed form and it's a challenge to make it look this smooth and easy. Certain celebrated younger Northern Soul-ettes (who shall remain nameless), favour a style that looks kind of laboured and unnatural while seeming to think that the backwards hand-spring is the holy grail of NS.
it's the first time I've seen this man dance, wow! what a flash back to the really good dance floor days, I swear I have to do this again before I kick the bucket.
Known him for decades great dancer keeps himself to himself always danced the same acrobatics never was a thing in the 1980s Era . We all shuffled like your man here
I'm 58, and danced the same way (still do), gymnastics was never my thing, but in saying that, there was some really good dancers that did and it was good to watch. Shuffle for me, but each to their own.
I'm an old school scooter boy, Ska and reggae is my thing really but ive been to plenty of northern soul events with some of the lads and the way they dance is hypnotic at times. This bloke in the video is brilliant the way he seems to glide across the floor in perfect sync with the music which is a lot harder than he makes it look.
His moves are simple and full of soul, so smooth and unpretentious. There’s just something about the song, the simple outfit and setting that is just perfect. Love the way his sleeves fall down and he just lets them fly. Dance on, soul man.
Bev posted this on Facebook and I was mesmorised, I didn't realise it was you until I watched the second youtube video. I didn't even know you could dance, lol. Thanks to Bev for posting, you have really made me smile, brilliant dancing. Just off to share this post with my sister. x
