Old School RuneScape's Hardest Clue Took a Year to Solve 

Dude finds the helmet, tries to tell people, gets instabanned from some chats and ignored from others. gets called a fake when he makes the video and when jagex reveals that no, he actually did find it, people are salty that he doesn't wanna share? I wouldn't either after i got treated like that

If Yip didn't get kicked from the chat he probably would've shared more info right away. I would've done the same thing if they treated me the same way they treated him. Good on him for keeping it secret for so long. He cracked the code, everyone else were just amateurs.

I find it extremely ironic everyone was salty at him for getting it by brute force when that was what literally everyone else was doing for the past year

How did I know the RS community was going to be incredibly salty over him finding it lol He definitely took it well, though. He had every right to just flex the helm and say nothing after that

If I was Yip I would have personally would have kept my mouth shut finding it, just so Jagex could say to the second person "Congrats you're actually the second person not the first."

Imagine the mass hysteria he woulda caused if he just went to the GE with the helmet on and just afk’d

I totally agree with the first finder NOT revealing how he did it. He tried to tell people, and they ignored him. At that point, fine, they're on their own. Glad he was able to solve it! Interesting little quest. :)

Everyone treating Pikachu like shit at the end is just pathetic and sad. I don’t understand the hate, he kept the clue alive for everyone else to try and enjoy and spent ample time thanking the people who laid out the groundwork. If they didn’t want anyone else to take their glory they should have hidden their secrets like the ancient sith.

I like that Woox normally looks fairly well put-together, but all the images you choose while talking about him working on the clue make him look like Charlie trying to find Pepe Silvia.

I don’t even play RS and that hunt was extremely fun to watch let alone be part of. I wish more games did this.

I love difficult puzzles, but mods giving fake hints, that feels scummy. I don't like that part. No hints or small hints, not fake hints.

Lmao what a pathetic group of “treasure hunters” constantly begging for hints on a search they volunteered to take part in only to whine and complain and ruin this game further , I had no idea about this story and it’s sad to see how players handled every situation .

An amazing coincidence that came out of this was the fact that if you take the coordinates of the real burial mound of Raedwald and put it into OSRS it took you to the nature altar lmao

It is a lot of fun to revisit this event, I had to do a double take when you said 2016. What great fun it was, I remember being convinced that you need ten nature runes and five water runes.

The reason this was so difficult was because there was no feedback from the game. You had to have everything aligned perfectly to get any feedback (win condition) from the game. They should have made it so digging in the correct spot without the items would indicate there's something buried there. Having the correct 3 items would then be sufficiently hard to know and brute force. Claiming pikachu yip brute forced it is dumb, because they had crowds of people trying to brute force through massive digging operations. 23:10 You can see a massive hotspot around the correct digging location after the final clue was revealed.

If I said I found it, got immediately banned from a chat, and then have someone ignore and not believe me I would keep it a secret as well. DIdn't even give them a chance

Imagine thinking Pikachu Yip "Brute Forced it" among hundreds of thousands of dig spots in the game and thousands of available items He had the right 3 in 26 inventory slots (-1 for spade and empty space for helm) and dug in, what, 30 spots? These people don't know real brute forcing lmao

I think it was shitty of people to dogpile the guy who solved it.. he wasn't there at the start, but he took the initiative and found the helm when all those others couldn't. The players who spent that year searching for it should be proud that they got that far, but it was Yip who took it over the finish line.

Being part of the CCs when CtC1 was in full swing is so memorable, some of the most fun I've had on OSRS. Margins CC was good times.

i wish people would stop asking for hints lol it would of been so awesome to have this in the game with no one not knowing wtf to do but we all know its there... maybe its just me tho, i find games with hidden secrets discovered years later really interesting. this could of been the greatest one of them all but fails because rs players dont like a challenge and want everything given to them on a silver platter. xp & gold gains included

At the time, messing around with the maps, I had thought the monastery was too simple of a "Where" Then Crack the clue 2 was just out of my capabilities lol.

I remember feeling like a genius after solving the first Cryptic Clue Fest puzzle in RS3, even though it wasn't very hard. When the second and third cryptic clue events came around, I was like: "Yeah, I'm just gonna wait for someone else to do it." I really wish those cryptic clue rewards were still obtainable after the fact, like the Crack The Clue items are. I love the chicken rock. Really wish more people had the rock so we can mass spawn chickens from the sky and confuse noobs.

Honestly reminds me when I got the first chromatic partyhat in RS3. Everyone just got mad that it was not tradeable and even though I was poor I still gave all the helpers 10mil-30mil each depending on their contribution. But because they wanted the hat to be worth bils and get hundreds of mils they had a bitch fit even though I was giving them something for helping, they didn't care and just whined that it wasn't how we originally envisioned. RuneScape players are just greedy and toxic. As soon as the 2nd person got it 5 minutes later, all 500 people at the GE disappeared within less than 2 minutes. I did a legit drop party on world 2 feeling bad because people followed the fake ones dropped 10 AGS and because most of them didn't get something they just complained, even though they didn't click as many balloons as they could have. No thanks at all but the effort or the chance to get something, just demanding I drop more stuff. At that point they are just begging and might as well just spam trade me. They want to feel like they won something themselves I guess because they are bad at the game or lazy but I don't see it different than just trading items to someone for free. It's not earned at all and shouldn't feel as such.

I started playing osrs just a month ago and i started getting these clue hunter outfit for wintertodt 2 weeks ago. For the last piece.. it said.. it needs super antipoison (1). I didn't bother with 1 dose left and just dig anyways... nothing. But when I had the nature runes, leather boots, and super antipoison 1. on my inventory.. it worked I could imagine the frustrations of players who did had it but failed for the last check. And superantiposion 1...

Its amazing how 1 single solo player that was not popular or a streamer cracked the clue lol. All those big famous players and big clue clans must have gotten their egos hurt.

I get that the whole point was for publicity and it was made deliberately unsolvable (don't give me any of that "all the information was there" in retrospect BS, you would not have solved it because it was unfairly setup)......but it annoys me how unfair it was to add the "holding 3 items" part without any hint toward it. He changed the rules of the game, thats like getting someone to play like tennis with you and telling them they lost because they didn't have 3 specific items in their pocket when you never said (OR HINTED!) that was apart of the game rules. Solving the clues is meant to be fun, its a game, just shows how sometimes monetary motivations trump ethical motivations :( Great video.

I like how the community ignore the man, kick him, and after they complain that the guy doesn't want to give the info. People are really stupid these days.. I would be in his situation I wouldn't give the location either, these dudes should have treated him better.

I’m sorry but ‘have 3 specific items in your inventory to be able to dig the last spot’ with seemingly no indication that you needed those 3 items is fucking ridiculous and pathetic as a treasure hunt. Without the final hints this wouldn’t have been solved for ages if not solved at all. Unless there is a hint on the pages somewhere indicating you need 3 specific items then this is a bad/incomplete puzzle (until ofc the final hints are revealed)

Im 14 mins in, probably wrong, but the nature rune being relevant, made me think that the N and W stood for Nature and Water. EDIT: 25 mins in, just noticed the lines on the sides of those papers. My guess is overlapping them creates words. One more. I hated the solution. Honestly, never heard of this clue, but it's not "kick yourself in the ass" easy or obvious etc. It was simply over convoluted for no reason and honestly, the answers didn't make sense. Glad I wasnt around for that shit.
