sounds like she needs some ignition timing and choke adjustments. ignition timing adjustments will help eliminate the excess starter play (whirring noise) and aid in easier cold starts
Timing was good I did check that alot was from the carburetor that was on it . Ot was way to big for that engine should have had like 550 or 600 or go back to factory 2 barrel but guy I bought it from said he tried the factory 2 barrel and wouldn't run or do good but I don't think he knew exactly what he was doing cause they came out with those and they never had problems. He had some fuel cut off thing but I took that junk off . I believe was called a fuel regulator had a dial on it u can cut down how much fuel it could get but lik I said I took all the off shouldn't have had that on there
Yea was supposed to have had a manual choke but cable I had would stick alot I just had alot issues with it . If I kept the truck I would have taken that carb off and put factory back on it . Butt the truck had a 90s model f150 4 speed automatic trans and rear end but it had a cable for the trans and I didn't know anything about adjusting that or messing with so that was another thing . Also the steering column needed to be changed to like a 90s model f150 that way the shifter would line up right I had problems sometimes getting it into 4 gear over drive. And I know that probably had something to do with the cable that goes to trans to carb needed to be adjusted so with all of that I didn't wanna mess it up so i decided to sell it . But i miss that truck so bad
carbs aren't for just anyone to work on, he probably couldn't get it to work because he didn't know what he was doing. I had a chevy k10 that had a 350 with an edelbrock performer intake/edelbrock 650 4 barrel, the guy said it wouldn't stay running because the carb was junk. turned out to be the idle was set too low, electric choke wasn't hooked up and it had a cracked vacuum seal. I spent 3 days fixing and resetting the whole thing back to edelbrocks specifications just to get the engine running right but I never could get the air/fuel mixture right, was either too rich or too lean and would load real easy if left idling too long but no matter how long it set, two full pumps and she'd pop right off and then kick down to idle after a minute
@@tommystearns3073 yeah dang lol sounds like this guy and he was up in age and had copd and couldn't breath good and everything just couldn't do anything anymore but yeah I did alot to the truck too after I got it and I changed the rear bumper had a home made steel bumper man that sucker was heavy as hell but didn't have a tag lights and I told him that he wanted to argue with me of how I didn't need them or like that when if a cop got behind me that i wouldn't get pulled over cause he said cops got behind him and they never did I said yea I don't believe that cause it's state law to have all like park running lights that work includes tag lights cause I've gotten pulled over in a jeep Cherokee I had because of one of them being burned out soo can't tell me that i ant taking chances lol I rather be safe and legal so they have no excuse to pull me over for anything
@@tommystearns3073 but I finally took that bumper off and bought the actual one that is supposed to be on it . But yeah I wished I still had the truck but with things it needed and work I couldn't do it I bought it for $2800 and sold for $3500 after I got done with it after puting more money into it
What a cool ole truck. :) She really doesn't like the cold weather. Would love to see another cranky cold start up of the beast. Pump it up good, man. ::))
Starting it SO WRONG. On a cold start, slam the peddle down, let go to open the choke. Will fire right up. Warm start? Hold peddle down 1/3 as you crank. Never fails. My parents bought our 1978 Yankee Yellow Bronco Custom 351 off of the show room floor in Anchorage Alaska. Had sliding rear windows, white hard top & white powder-coated wheels. What a BEAST!!!
Yeah the truck had a different carb on it and was to big for it for one and then it had bad issues in cold weather and then once got hot and you drive it and let it sit for 30 min then wouldn't wanna start back cause of the carburetor float would stick and flood it out but yeah I miss the truck I sold it about almost year ago the video of it last is on my channel check it out 🛠
@@KnuckleHeadGarage27 Oh man, i miss that sound. Gotta say, not much horse power, but both have a ton of torque. That truck can pull a tree right out of the ground. Our Bronco had a problem with the breaks (rear drums), sadly, never converted to disc. That sucker took leaded gas, 32 gal tank. We had our yellow Bronco in Germany 1982-1985. Imagine wheels riding on the lines, body hanging over... Austin Martin/Jaguar/Porche/BMW/Audi/Mercedes... whipping by so fast, it SHOOK our huge Bronco side to side? Hehehe, one time in a rare snowstorm, dad thew it in to 2LW & we romped off of the Autobahn... LIKE A TANK!Everyone else was stuck. Priceless.
@@eastcoastemt9392 ha dang yeah gezz yeah I love the Ford Broncos to they are bad ass and my grandpa had an old scout it's like a Ford Bronco basically but got rid of it after he passed
Lol , actually wasn't that bad just did it for video. However it took forever to warm up tho that carburetor was way to big for it an should had a 550-600 size carb on it . Sold this truck a few months later an I tell u I regret it now but the video is also on the channal too . I own a 78 C10 now
what do you recommend to get better fuel economy on this motor ? I got a 77 , Put a can of Sea foam in the tanks to clean it out as it was running a bit rough , it idles and runs way better now , seems like it likes 91 Octane ? its kinda sluggish and seems like pre detonation when i use 87 fuel but wow She sure drinks down the fuel fast ! I drove 130km ( 80 miles )on a lil trip and it used up half a tank of gas from the Main tank ,and I was pretty Easy on the Throttle , did a 90 km/h - 110km/h on the highway 55-68 Mph and a bit of stop and go in traffic city driving
It had that in it when I bought the truck not sure what but that's mainly what sold me on the truck was the exhaust an the power it had was bad to the bone lol. Truck would fly butt she ate me in gas an i sold it a few months later an the last video of it is on my channel.
Same 78 f100 ...same color....live in Charlotte.....only difference I have a 302 stock engine in mines and a dent on my passenger front grill...do you have any suggestions how to pull that dent out
Heck yeah man , I miss it really bad wish I wouldn't have sold the truck butt it was eating me in gas and it needed more work that I wasn't sure how to fix like it haven a different transmission in it the column shifter was way off and had problems of messing up and not going into gear or not going into 4th overdrive cause the trans was out of a 90s ford f150 AOD 4speed auto plus the carb needed to be changed it was way to big for that truck . I honestly if I kept it I would probably have swapped to full injection the EFI swap u can do from summit racing or jeggs. I fixed alot on it and cleaned it up so much after I bought it cause was in ruff shape. Floor pans was gone and had stop signs in it , I had a extra cab for it butt I didn't have a lift to do a truck cab swap . I sold.it $3,500 about 3 years ago or so
I had a big smash dent in the tailgate on mine so if I ever see one I'll know it's mine I had unless someone changes it . I was backing up on night accidentally slam the tailgate into a light pole , it was very cold that night and the windows was completely fogged up and I could not see anything . I was so pissed cause tailgate was really good condition . I miss this truck alot and haven't seen it yet since I sold it
@@KnuckleHeadGarage27 I bought mine from a guy in Stanley n.c. it was blue at the time ...got it for a good deal but turn signals didn't work or gas gauge ......come to find out the cluster was broken and I got it fixed for a lot of money....but it runs good ....still gotta get more work done far as interior and column shifter.....etc.
Thanks it was a awesome truck sadly I sold it 3 or some years ago now . It had a Edelbrock 750 4 barrel carb on it but that was way to big for it , should have had a stock one or something like 550 or 600 carb on it cause it ran awful rich an had many problems.
Carb wasn't in the best health so it made it hard at times plus was way to big for it . But There's vid on channel of this truck for last time when I sold it .
CD'S Automotive Garage heck yeah I’m excited you commented after 3 years. Maybe it is difference in the big block all the small block fords with manual pumps needed two pumps on a really cold day one on coldish day and would first time fire.
@@shilohgardner yeah the float was bad in it too cause when it would sit after a drive an hot soak it didn't wanna start back up either . It was flooded an ran rich an ate gas bad Carb was a 750 4barrel an should been the factory one back on it or maybe a 550 or 600 size instead. I sure miss the truck tho an tryed to find it but I've never seen it again . I have a 78 C10 350 3speed on tree one onwer with 99k miles , it's on the channel
Nope no more sad to say I sold this truck almost a year ago now there's a video of it on my channel the last video of the same day I sold it go check it out but I do miss it and wish i hadn't sold it
Lol I have a 78rv with the Same motor.. sounds a bit healthier to be honest but I got a laugh we have the Same dash and everything.. it's a friggin rv with the same interior as a pickup truck.. lol
That carb was junk it needed a rebild had or just replaced to a smaller one cause was really to big for that engine . When it hot soaked it flooded it's self out an wouldn't wanna crank back an drank fuel lile no tomorrow it ran rich big time .
Yeah well plus that carb was way to big for that engine it ran rich an had many problems as well as heat soak issues too . Sold the truck so i no longer have it
Sold it $3500 a year ago and the person I sold it too still has it. And second of all the truck ran damn good u evidently don't know lol it ran really good no problems
