" The S2000 certainly lacks the love it or loath it individuality of Porsche's boxter or BMW's Z3. " " Overall the Shape doesn't grab me " LOL. Just LOL. That's one of the meanest, sexiest, slickiest cars EVER produced. EVER. This man must be blind or something. The Z3 and Boxter are together combined half a hair of the balls of the S.
It's funny how out of the z3, boxter and s2000 only the s2000 design isn't outdated. I have the same year and color s2000 and people are surprised at the fact it's a 15 year old car. The design still holds up to today
I think what he means is that the S2000 has pretty modest styling compared to the Boxter and Z3. That doesn't mean its ugly it just means that the others are more talked about for people either loving or hating the styling and the S2000 is neither its just kinda plain. Which is kinda true but in my opinion I think the S2000 is very good looking.
the best car of the decade I reckon. I have had an s2000 for 5 years without any major problems. these engines are bullet proof. Always respect the s2000
@@privatezeron My brothers ran for years supercharged with 327whp. The only engine upgrades were fuel system and supercharger and it never had an issue. It was well maintained but got used for autocross and drove hard quite a bit.
I'm not a biggest s2000 fan but damn Tiff... if this was British car you would be praising it.. it would be one sexy beast.. Porche is the slowest evolving car, styling wise .. look at 2000 porche cayman or boxer, they look outdated.. s2000 still looks amazing.
Awesome man!! I have had my AP1 since 2012 and its the best money ive ever spent. Im always stopped by people because they love how it looks. I put the CR front and rear wing on mine. Pop on a K&N intake and delete the CAT and you will have much more power!!!
Ive had my AP1 since 2012, its an amazing car. It performs just as good as it looks. I have people yelling ta me from other cars when they see me dry by, saying Nice car and I love your car. Its a great feeling when im parked somewhere and people walk up to me and ask me about the car, and some if ill see it I'm like no EFFING way! Throw on a K&N intake and delete the CAT for a car with more power and a VTEC that sounds like an Indy car!
why can't these peoples enjoy the best parts in it....c'mon..its Free revving Front Engine,Rear Wheel Drive Convertible with 240 bhp having a life span of more than 3 of our generation... what else you need from a car like this...and if u feel a little bit under powered, just down shift and the problem is solved...!!
I own a 00' AP1; I have some clips of the interior on my channel. It has a harsh ride and it is immensely loud inside, although despite those two things it is really livable as a daily driver. It's not that difficult to get in and out of the S2K and the trunk has a decent amount of available space. I was really skeptical from RU-vid videos, until I test drove it & just about every reviewer was spot on! When I took it home, I got really addicted to hitting VTEC at 6K RPM & shifting to 9K RPM.
I've had many sports cars, like Toyota celica, Nissan 300zx, to BMW 330ci and Mercedes clk500, but none of these cars were ever as fun as driving my 03 S2K. Just get in and drive! no fiddling with traction control or DSC or buttons. Fun little machine.
i'm well aware of that. Tiff needell was a presenter on top gear before he moved to 5th gear. This is from top gear in 1999, 5th gear didn't air until 2002.
I drove mine from 1999~2008, never had any big problems, and I drove my car hard. You will enjoy it if you buy one, but I recommend the newer AP2 over the AP1 first gen, if you want a more comfortable daily ride.
This video did not age well/correctly. My Suzuka Blue S2000 gets more attention than a BMW or Porsche Boxter x10. It reminds me of that Dave Ramsey video where he tells the kid that his mom was wrong about buying Bitcoin when it was $3000
Idk Whats Tiff's Deal. S2000 Is A Well Made Sports Car That Is Affordable , Easy To Maintain , And Enjoy Life In. He's A European Douche For Sure Thats Into Porshes And BMWs . Doesnt Appreciate Hard Work From Honda That Did A Fantastic Job Developing The S2000.
That's why when"idling along at everyday speeds" if you want performance, you stay out of 4th gear and keep the revs higher by selecting a gear that maximizes torque and puts you in a better power band...unless you want to idle along, and then who cares how much power you have? I don't get the contradiction. You can easily drive this car like a base Civic or a high revving, high performance sports car. All you have to do to change things up is downshift and push the accelerator. Who's have thunk it so simple. /s This guy doesn't know if he's and enthusiast or a Soccer Mom.
68nevets68: I think Tiff Needel knows exactly who he is after 30 odd years as a motoring journalist and even longer as a pro racing driver. I've owned an S2000 as well as a boxster s and 350z and he's completely right, it does lack torque in everyday driving, the others feel fast at all times, this feels no quicker than an mx5 unless you thrash it.
im 6'2 and 244lbs. I fit in my friends ap1 very snug/comfterble. I have to move the seat up to reach the peddles. I haven't tried wearing a helmet, and heel toeing just yet. But I plan on buying an ap1 or ap2.
Yeah, I'm definitely getting myself one of these sometime. Couldn't care less about the lack of urge down low, it's got a superb chassis, a wonderful manual gearbox and a beautiful singing voice when the power comes on. It's just a shame that for now at least, I can't think of a single reason why I should sell my MY00 CSE4 'Rex to buy one.
I met someone who owns both (AP1/2) and they both have pros and cons. The AP1 is the more purest sports car, although AP2 might be better as a daily driver...
@cheatingwanker I've owned an S2000 too - sorry to say that compared to other cars of similar power, it does indeed have no torque at all. Compared to other normal 2litre cars though, the torque is fine. I now have a Golf GTI 2.0T, with 40 less bhp than my old Honda, and it accelerates quicker from above 30 mph than the Honda ever could - because the torque is way WAY higher. I loved my S2K though - a great car
Tiff is the man. He always does a great review. This car was in dire need of torque. HP wasn't an issue. Worst thing about this car was it was very loud at highway speeds and a little fishy in the corners in comparison to my current newer Boxster S.
duuuuuuuuuddddeeeeeeee..... any Honda is tunable. You can go small, like for example an ECU remap and some mods to the injectors and ignition timing, and the air intake, or adding a turbo and upgrading the fuel system, while keeping engine internal modifications to a minimal- check out real street racing honda s2000 on youtube, you will be quite amazed my friend ;)
What was that about the most power per litre?? The RX-7 and RX-8 beat it by quite a lot because they have an rotary engine which has 1.3 litres and have around the same power as the s2000
Lol, but he's right. if you can manage a turbo on the s2000 (with the high compression and all) Probably run it at low boost, you'll get a higher torque s2k :D Win win, balance might be off, but you can fix that.
