Old Town Sportsman Salty PDL: Overview, field test, and Comparison to the Predator PDL! 

Noticeably easier on the Salty. Less kayak to pedal overall.

I have the Topwater 120PDL, but I was wanting the Salty at first. My understanding is that the Salty has a much drier hull, and cuts through chop much better than other hulls. I may be wrong but that's what I had read on it. I believe my Topwater would be pretty sluggish in heavy chop. I do love my Topwater though bc it is extremely stable and I can easily cruise at 3.5mph fully loaded.

@@Johnnyreengo From what I can see, the Topwater is an excellent boat. Nowadays, pickin's at the kayak shops is pretty slim so I'd be just fine w/ the Salty or Topwater/PDL 120. Probably my biggest hesitation at grabbing one of these is my inability to find time to use it. :o( ...........and halibut season is right around the corner......!!!

The Bigwater PDL and Predator aren't 120 (12 feet) they are 132 (13 feet 2 inch) the hulls between the topwater and predators are different. I have a predator PDL and feel just fine in it and I am not small (6 ft 245 pounds). If I were you, I would try to take each boat out and see what you like/ afford.

The Salty is faster & has great stability. Just put my $500 down for 2 Salty's at my local dealer. They've been out of stock for 7 months & he got 30 in today & they go fast!

@@SaltyMcFogg Your audio cut out during your standing test. What'd you think of the Salty's stability? I know it's going to be somewhat less stable than the Predator, but how much so? Were you comfortable with the stability?

@@machine_ruse it's less stable than the predator, but still fishable for sure. Leaning over you'll notice it tips a bit b more but it's not terrible

@@SaltyMcFogg like I see there’s the predator and sportsman from old town they a bit more than the salty so are those better and how is there a video on the series of old town wish I could see them all in person

@@Thefishingplumber Yeah sorry I only have access to the two right now. There's also the topwater which is another affordable model, but I would go to your local dealer if you have one and look at them there. When I got mine I had a local store I could look at the kayak. It all depends on what you are looking for and what your price range is. Sorry if that's super vague and not helpful.

@@Thefishingplumber no I did not. But with any old Town kayak you will not be upset with any purchase. Unless you plan on surf launching into the ocean, these kayaks are all very good for backwaters, bays, harbors, and freshwater fishing. It's just a matter of whether you want to top off the line with the trolling motors, the predator which has all the bells and whistles, or the topwater and Salty which are the smaller and less stable platforms but still great fishing kayaks
