Zagabria, diversamente dal resto della Croazia è ancora poco nota al turismo di massa, ma è ricchissima di attrazioni, musei e monumenti da poter richiedere un intero weekend a visitarla. La città nel corso della storia è stata colpita da più di un evento sismico. L’ultimo risale al 2020, avvenuto in piena emergenza Covid, molte chiese e monumenti storici, edifici costruiti in maggioranza a cavallo tra l'Ottocento e il Novecento hanno subito gravi danni, in particolare la cattedrale di Zagabria, all’epoca già interessata a lavori di restauro, rimane ancora oggi transennata. È divisa in due zone, collegate tra loro dalla più piccola funicolare:
Città alta (Gornji Grad) che ruota attorno alla piazza san Marco, la Porta di Pietra, antico ingresso in città, la duecentesca Torre Lotrscak, il Palazzo Arcivescovile, la chiesa di Santa Caterina ed il Museo delle relazioni interrotte.
Città bassa (Donji Grad), più moderna e vivace della città, con numerosi vicoli pedonali, la piazza principale Ban Josip Jelacic, è molto popolare come luogo di ritrovo; durante le feste natalizie, la piazza si fregia di belli addobbi e luminarie, mentre al parco Zrinjevac, di fronte alla storica stazione ferroviaria, appaiono i famosi mercatini e si allestisce una pista di pattinaggio. Nella parte bassa l'elegante influenza austro-ungarica è visibile nell’architettura. Qui vi è il Teatro Nazionale Croato con le sue facciate gialle, ed ancora il Museo Mimara.
La strada più bella della città è la Tkalčićeva, una vivace via pedonale con una sequela bar, pub e ristoranti, la via dello shopping è la Ilica, molto trafficata, la via più estesa, con un’ampia scelta di negozi.
Luoghi che rendono unica questa città: Il Dolac, il mercato di agricoltori all'aperto, presente solo la mattina, bellissimo, caratterizzato dagli ombrelloni rossi, dove ci sono bancarelle piene di fiori, frutta e verdura, tutto ben organizzato, con prodotti tipici e la simpatia dei venditori. Sembra di fare un salto indietro nel tempo, qui si vedono ancora le bilance con i pesi!.. La statua di bronzo all’ingresso del mercato, Kumica Barica, è un omaggio a tutte le kumice (comari) che vengono in città dai paesini rurali per vendere i loro prodotti freschi. Infine, il Museo delle Relazioni Interrotte, concepito da artisti croati, ha visto la luce nell’ottobre del 2010. Questo singolare museo, che ha già parecchie succursali in tutto il mondo, vuole essere un catalogo di emozioni. The city throughout history has been hit by more than one seismic event. The last one dates back to 2020, which took place in the midst of the Covid emergency, many churches and historical monuments, buildings built mostly between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, suffered serious damage, in particular the cathedral of Zagreb, at the time already affected by restoration work, still remains cordoned off today.
