How to install the Artillian modular grapple system on an older John Deere 755 Compact Tractor. I also installed a diverter valve kit on my 755 compact tractor to run the front auxiliary hydraulics for the grapple system. ‪@Artillian‬

Can't wait for some field testing of this. I borrowed a grapple for my skid steer when we had a tornado knock a bunch of trees down. I doubt I would've made it through the cleanup without it, grapples are a major game changer!

Great job Neil! Almost made me cry since getting rid of my 430, but I needed a bigger tractor, so it didn't last long. I don't know if you use them enough, but they make a zip tie gun that gets them really tight. $20 Harbor Freight. I was clenched when you went for the big log, maybe a bit more weight on the back, but the 755 really handled it! My sister lives across the way and she had a walnut tree blow down and we cut it up. I brought pieces of the trunk about the same size in 10' lengths to my place with my TYM T 264, but I had a 700lb tiller on the back. I hope you get lots of "safe" use with the grapple! Oh I forgot. Loctite makes more products than you can imagine and they all work!
@digdrivediy
@digdrivediy 2 года назад
Yeah I knew that that log was going to be overkill but I just couldn't resist it was right there ripe for the picking 😋 I use these tractors all the time and I still get surprised at what they can accomplish given enough time and patience. I'm really looking forward to enjoying it this fall and winter.

Congratulations Neil! That is a perfect set up for wood and brush cleanup. You’re gonna love it. I think I appreciate my grapple more for brush than for wood. The part of wood harvesting that I dislike the most is limbing, dragging and stacking the limbs. Especially when working in a brushy, briar infested forest floor. With my grapple I can make a few passes where the tree is gonna fall to clear the underbrush. That makes limbing a bit more pleasant. Then, I cut the tree into logs and pluck them out with the grapple. Gathering the limbs and piling them is just a couple of quick swipes with the grapple. All of a sudden, the most distasteful part of woodcutting becomes fun… almost! Another brush challenge is the wild roses, buck brush, blackberries and such that grow everyplace that light hits the forest floor. I use to brush hog it. That just makes it mad. It spreads wider and grows back thicker. Having the grapple lets me deal with it at root level… where it acts as if it got a lobotomy… and loses all will to survive. That Artillian grapple is a beast. Your compact 755 is on the lower limit of tractors that can safely handle it. Nonetheless, it looks like you can get a lot done with it. My BX23s is a sub-compact. It can’t handle a grapple that heavy. Land Pride (owned by Kubota) makes a brush grapple that is sized specifically for it. It isn’t as heavy duty as the Artillian but then again, the tractor isn’t as massive either. I suppose it’s like that old saying… ‘different saddles for different horses.” Just one piece of advice… make sure your front tires are full of air… that grapple puts all of the weight on them. I’ve heard that a guy can ruin a low tire in just a single trip… but I’ve chosen to forget where I heard it!!! Again, I’m happy for you and look forward to see you learning about it as you find it’s capabilities and limits!
@digdrivediy
@digdrivediy 2 года назад
You are certainly right that this tractor is on a smaller side for this grapple. I was really worried about that but I am tickled with the initial testing and findings. I like your methodology for how to go about using it too. We've got a couple projects in mind where we're going to give the grapple a real life test and see how the 'ole girl handles it. I know from running my brother-in-law's 1025 with grapple how handy it can be, but his is a little bit different style and I think this one maybe even more useful. Now I'm headed out to check the air in those front tires because when you know what, I did forget to check them!!! Thanks for the reminder!

Even a paid sponsorship video from you is excellent. It’s your delivery and your voice and your mannerisms and just the way you come across. It’s very genuine and out of all the RU-vid Tractor channels I watch I feel like you have the highest ceiling. Keep that excellent content coming. You mentioned in a video from a year two ago that you paid $9000 for that F750. Wow. Even then that sure seems like a good deal. I would love to have any of those 3 dump trucks you featured. How did you know I needed you to do this video? I have been wondering for a couple years if I could get one of these for my 770? Several of the channels I watch have them. Looks to me like the same setup you are using would work for my 770 as well. Give us a follow-up in a few months. Meanwhile I will try to get enough viewers to work our a deal with Artillian! ;-) My biggest concern is with additional weight how much can I still lift?

Oh and answer your question. You can still lift more with the tractor than with your back! :) But I was really worried about that too. To be honest. I'm pleasantly surprised so far so we'll see how it goes. I know that brush won't ever be an issue either way.

Be advised that the grapple may be super human in strength But the loader arms Might very well NOT be. I've seen two or three small tractor videos explaining how loader arms were tweaked out of whack by lifting up a tree root on one side but not the other or Getting a great big log up with very un even weight distribution. ( 8 ft. Of log on one side and 1 ft. On the other side , to buck up rounds ) Very impressive plumbing skills, You would have to help me find which end of the wrench to hold. Good video

Thanks Bob. They sent me the diverter kit for a Mahindra 26L tractor. I only modified two hoses in that kit by cutting off 12" and adding 3/8" male o-ring face fittings. I believe that Artillian may work to develop a kit for the 55 series if there is enough interest.

I wonder if your tractor has a power beyond kit that is plugged off? Then you could hook into that and have an electric operated valve instead of the diverter, and have all three functions without having to choose between tilt and grapple.
@digdrivediy
@digdrivediy 2 года назад
You can add a power beyond kit to these tractors. Captain Kleeman did it to his, but for me this seemed like a logical choice as the curl and pinch of the grapple work in conjunction with each other. But I would really like to have that third spool for a rear implement too!

I was wondering if you or any viewers have had to replace a power steering hose on a 755. I tried the dealer but they said only a 10' roll of bulk hose was available. If I'm not mistaken the fittings ( one straight, one elbow) do not come with the ends that are crimped onto the oem hose. Part # m91486 hose. Idk if anyone has tried a place that makes hydraulic hoses?
@digdrivediy

Should be an easy hose to make up at a hydraulic shop. Our local Napa store could make that hose up for you. Maybe you have one around?
@chrisreibold1634
@chrisreibold1634 2 года назад
Thank you for the reply Neil. To my surprise both steering lines only cost me $9.00 from the local hardware store. This is because the ends on the factory hoses are "repair in the field" type of fittings. They unscrew off of old hose and screw onto new one. You must take the fitting out of the piece that goes over the hose first. Then unscrew off of old hose. Fyi these are reverse threads. Easy to do with a bench vise and a Crecent wrench.
