I bought a Belgian folding .410 in Jan for my 8 year old grandson, £20. Great with 2" x 9gram carts for clays, pigeon, rats, and squirrels. He loves it.

I have one of the old Belgian guns. I lived in Limerick Ireland from 1980-1982. A good friend of mine had one and I loved it. They are hard to find in the US but I found one after searching for nearly 40 years. I am sure I paid too much but what a lovely gun to shoot. Takes me back to my good times in Ireland as a teen. Love your videos.

Hi David! Well this is a blast from the past! The .410 was, like many, my first shotgun. Pigeon, rabbit and hare all fell to this little gun. It’s a BSA bolt action chamber for a 2” cartridge. It was a present from my father back in the 1960’s! I still have it but it’s now on my firearm certificate as the barrel length is only 23.5”, it was only by chance it was found out! I have considered getting it bored out to accept 21/2” cartridge but after years of abuse (it was already secondhand when I got it) there is some small amount pitting and my gunsmith advised the cost clearly outweighs the value! Thanks for another great video, much appreciated from deepest Dorset 👍

David, I don't have a folding 410 and really don't have any need for one. I am a US based 4 gun Skeet shooter who discovered that I'm too old to swing around a tubed shotgun weighing in at 9 lbs. 14 ounces for 300 rounds of Skeet. So I shoot skeet with a dedicated set of guns. My 410 is the second barrel for my 28 gauge Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon III with a EELL wood upgrade that was purchased as a set. I enjoy that smaller 28 gauge frame so much that my primary practice caliber is now the 410. One big plus for the 410 is that it's the least expensive caliber to reload. Another is the low recoil, I don't have to worry about over shooting and developing a flinch. The final plus is that it will force you to become a better shot, because it's very easy to miss with. BTW, many people say shoot the 410 like a 12 gauge and I have to disagree with that. I say shoot the 12 gauge like a 410 because doing that means you'll center every hit.

I like the older Belgian ones both double and single. I did have a Spanish single folder and couldn't hit anything with it. Got it on the pattern plate. It shot about a foot low with 2" ammo, 2 foot low with 2 1/2" ammo and about 3 1/2 foot low with 3" magnums. The barrel was too thin and 'whippy'. I now have a .410 single re-bored rook rifle that shoots spot on. Nice to use for small game and vermin.

Mine is a well used abused and neglected example, made sometime between 1925-1958 according to its Belgian proof marks. Barrel is pitted but it is a hoot to shoot clays with. Love it to bits! I love old guns especially hammer guns so is a good stable mate for my 16 bore EM Reilly. Well done David see you at the Game Fair.

I have always thought the 410 is useless for a youngster A nice 28 bore is a far better bet , they can brake clays right out to 12 bore ranges

I had a Alicio .410 folder, it was better than the Yildiz. I swapped it for a o/u .410 yildiz, the yildiz over and unders are brilliant for the money, It’s a multi choke with ejectors and selectable barrels. 4 of us regularly shoot the clay course with them, we use the Hull high Pheasant 7 three inch magnums 18g, it’s brilliant when people say”oh you only beat me by one clay”, then their face drops like stone when you tell them you used the .410 😂😂😂😂😂 Awesome fun.

My little Belgian single shot folder has a companion, have aquired a very nice Armas Parkemy sxs folding 410 with 3inch chambers and will take Magnums. I think it was made about about 1975 but has not had a lot of use. Very heavy trigger pull! Nice colour hardend action and the barrels are good. All set to do battle with my friend and her semi auto Mossberg!

I added a folding side lever SXS .410 used it a few times on clays. We normally do a round on 12g then use .410’s for a giggle

I'm sad that Verney-Carron quit making their model 'Stopvis' in the late 60s... :( That was an awesome singleshot shotgun in every shotgun gauge (and .410 caliber) what was used on the market those days (from 10 to 36 I think). It was not a folding one, but a fixed barrel shotgun and that was an extremely simple and sturdy one.

I paid £95 for my yildiz as new 2nd hand about 3 years ago i’ve owned a few single barrel .410s but i sold them all and kept the yildiz the older ones can be very heavy and pitted in the barrel it’s worth checking the hammer springs on older guns too

There's something a bit different with the 410. My worry is that any lead ban will make many of these smaller guns confined to not being used. However I still have a 410 which is a real delight, but its a Mossberg 500 pump action. I have been told by the importers that it's steel proofed, which may be OK but as yet no cartridges available to even try. The Americans have TSS but at $60 for 5 shells it a lot of dosh per bang.

We have 3" Fe #6 and #7.5 @1400 fps from Federal and Winchester in the US, ask for those. Otherwise people also reload .410 steel using 3" Fiocchi or Cheddite hulls and BPI TPS410 wads for steel.
@nwmacguy
@nwmacguy Год назад
Also I use a Mossberg 500 synthetic in 410 that uses Browning Invector pattern screw-in chokes. All sorts of choices with that, but up to #6 steel has been fine in the fixed-full of current 500s.

Are New folding 12 gauge worth buying or not please suggest, The barrel and action joint is my biggest concern please give your expert opinion as 12 gauge is a bigger calibre as compared to 410....... ....Best Regards.

I have the old one but made in Holland maastricht by de beaumont. I think its pretty rare.
@pinocolada4254
@pinocolada4254 Год назад
Big chance they only imported it. They did import Belgian shotguns and engrave d'Beaumont Wapens Maastricht. It was quite common for an importer to do. Like the US importers still do. Its not likely Beaumont made a folding 410, 1, 410 never been a hunting caliber in the Netherlands. 2, Beaumont specialised on making custom order (shot)guns and sales of other brands after the militairy contracts. The son in law of Eduard d'Beaumont was a Stevens from Liège, famous gun producer family, like the USA brand Stevens, wich was a branch from the same Belgian family. He probably had many contacts in Liège, he worked in the industry there. And, because the Dutch didnt have a proofing station after the Belgians seperated, Beaumont had to proof their in shop made guns in Liège. There still is a chance Beaumont did make your folding shotgun. An A grade Belgian brand, A(uguste) Francotte did make some folding rifles in single and over under (!!)410. Holland and Holland from London also made some, but not in .410 but in obsolete calibers like .300Rook&Rabbit. Pre 22 rimfire those small bore centre fires were populair with the rich (ladies). When the cartridge became obsolete many were bored out to .410. bit they still are high quality masterpieces. Your Beaumont migth even have started our in an obsolete German caliber and became a .410 Who knows, but they are pretty fun to own anyways. I have 2 Belgian black powder proofed pre 1945 folding shotguns. A single shot "piece of junk", likely was someones workhorse on the farm. Sound and solid, bit not the best looking 1. And today i got a 30" double barrel 1 in very nice condition, probably was some Belgian guys kitchen corner of next to the bed bit keep it oiled and cleaned in between killings one. Im sorry for writing the whole bible.

Not tried it at the Clay Shooting Club .... can I stand the ripples of merriment after shooting my Browning OU or my even my reproofed 1890 Hammers George Fuller 12.?.
